Fallout: New Vegas

Don't feel forced to get to the Strip as soon as possible, honestly the best experience I've had is just walking around and finding random sh*t. Also going through a lot of side quests before progressing into the main story also helped. Best tip is to just take all the time in the world since from what I know (havent finished the story either) you cannot continue in the Wasteland once the main story has been completed.

I am a little late to the party! I picked up Fallout: New Vegas for £2.50 at game the other day.... still have not got around to opening the box and putting the game in.

I only played Fallout one for 2 hours (Was not in a RPG frame of mind and never went back to it) I am off work next week so am looking forward to sitting down and going hardcore.

Any tips for a new player?

I'd probably say decide what sort of person your protag is - good bad, warrior, trader etc.

build your skills around that.

get a companion as soon as you can, and just explore. The area you start in is safer then latter areas i think, so just explore

one given though:

SAVE FREQUENTLY - there are some bugs in the game, so save after every journey and battle etc - use multiple saves, like a ten save rotating system - DONT RELY ON THE AUTOSAVE - as it gets corrupt easily.

Also don't underestimate the importance of trade - pick up what you can and sell them where you can smile.gif certain items allow better pay while doing this i think

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Effy in Chains

As a real Power Armour enthusiast, in Fallout 4 I want to see Hardened Power Armour return from Fallout 1 & 2. I like to get my Power Armour & aspire towards superior variants of Power Armour. So the more the merrier.

A suit of T-51b power armor which has undergone a special chemical hardening process. The nature of this process is unknown, but the result is greater resistance to all forms of damage.

If your playing on PC, FOOK adds Hardened T-51B Power Armour as a recipe. Basically, get yourself Brotherhood some T-51B armour, use your sneak to re-spray it in neutral colours, find the schematic and the necessary parts and craft yourself some bad-ass Hardened T-51B armour.

Though it would be nice to see some of the equipment and weapons from Fallout 2 (particularly the FO2 Gauss rifle, which is far better than the crap job they did of the scoped GR in FO3 and NV) and some of the small guns. I want a Bethesda-made G11E; as good as the Classic Fallout Weapons version is, it's not quite "right" aesthetically.

Is the game NOT a glitchy piece of trash any more? If so, I'll get it. Nuclear apocalypse feel + western feel = pure win.

Still buggy

But worth buying

Not particularly bad on PC- lots of unofficial patches that remedy almost all the bugs in the game.

No, I mean for XBox.

It's still a bit buggy, but not measurably worse than anything else these days.

On PS3, though- avoid like the plague.

Depends what you expect from Fallout really. I was a big hater of the series deeming it not my kind of genre until my step brother got it for his 360 one weekend and I watched him play. Instantly fell in love with FO3 and wanted to get my hands on it. Truth be told I've never played FO3 for every side quest and f*cked myself over since you can't continue the story after you've completed the main quest, unless you get Broken Steel? DLC.

I would suggest looking at some videos on Youtube of gameplay of either installments and see if you like them. They are pretty cheap now, so its not such a huge loss if you end up not enjoying it.

I expect it to be some sort of RPG.

There are RPG elements- character building, dialogue options, open-world environment with multiple side quests, armour and clothing, perks, skills, special items et cetera- but mixed in with FPS and, in the case of FO3 and certainly Dead Money, survival horror.

Fallout 3 is one of the finest games ever made....

i've gone back having messed up my order; i had played 3, then started NV, both as my "bad" guy. But then i got BS so gone back to 3 to play on, found more cool 3 quests, my guys "evil incarnate" and is currently trying to enslave Butch with the mesmetron - i dont think u can sad.gif

Then when BS is finished, ill reload NV, and begin Lonesome road, and finish that game, restarting FO3 with my "good" girl tounge.gif

Have started playing this earlier today since I'm off sick and stopped sleeping at 3pm..plus I'm starting to read The Stand which makes me want to play a Fallout. Level 20 and I only just decided to jump into the strip.

Hi,i was planning to buy complete edition next month for PS3 so i just want to know if they fixed freezing that was on FO3 GOTY? Even with the freezing i liked FO3 and got some 160 hours of playing, but i wish they fixed this for this game.

I imagine it's better but there are still far more bugs on PS3, by all accounts, than there are on any other system.

Still think it's worth getting though, even with occasional issues.

Why no "Area 51" in New Vegas or it's DLC Expansions? sad.gif

We get Nellis Air Force Base, which Area 51 is supposed to be near.

They could've done great things with it:

Top secret prototype weapons & Power Armour variants... lots of cool Alien stuff too.

cos it's a cliche and i think the entire Area 51 thing came in the 60s onwards and FO is based around 50's culture.

i think lol

Area 51 is there somewhere, as it was mentioned in FO1 and it supposed to appear to FO2, but it was cut out for unknown reasons. As Mokrie stated it was probably considered as cliche.

Area 51 or Air Force Flight Test Center, Detachment 3 was built up in 1951 so more or less it fits the '50 culture. It would probably be totally destroyed during The Great War anyway.

I would imagine the extensive underground facilities there can withstand atomic impacts on the surface areas.

If anyone is really itching for Area 51 there are 2 separate custom addons on New Vegas nexus that take you there, i believe one even has a clone of Frank Horrigan as a boss towards the end. sly.gif

I would try Jack at Red Rock Canyon.

Contreras at Camp McCarren sells them, as does the bartender at Gomorrah. Plus the various wasteland doctors.
