Fallout: New Vegas

I'm going to completely rebuild my NV mod database soon. I've got fed up with conflicts that I'm not able to solve (pretty convinced it's a combination of FOOK and Classic Fallout Weapons to some degree) plus feel the need for a little more originality in my game. So I'm going to see if I can teach myself the basics of Blender in some of my down-time and produce my own models- or at least customise existing ones.

I bought some expensive implants at the hospital to get my luck to 10. At some of the level ups, I chose the trait where you can add one SPECIAL as well. If you have luck above 8, you almost always win in blackjack.

Oh my world, these Roboscorpions are a massive pain to kill! What weapon did you guys choose? I just got my good ole Cowboy repeater and its damn near impossible to kill them!

If you want to win serious money, you have to have around 6-7 of luck. Leave roulette alone (it's not worth it) and play only blackjack. The best way to won is playing on max bets.

Get X-2 Antenna or Proton Axe. Even with low meelee, you can kill them with three to four swings.

Three or four swings? The f*ck you playing on, very easy? Takes me a good 15-20 swings on very hard with the Protonic-Inversal Axe for the big ones, on my melee character whose rocking 100 melee with the perks to top it off.

I call bullsh*t.

I play on normal and I was talking about normal roboscorpions, not the big ones.

EMP grenades and the LAER are the way to go.

Woooo can't wait for Lonesome Road on Tuesday, I'm trying to finish up Infamous 2 by then, just about done.

I just used the proton axe on the robo scorpions with a maxed out melee on normal, they tended to fall apart within 10 swings regardless of size. With the largest one in the X-Zone I set off a lot of the rooms defenses and such, then moved in and finished it off.

This'll work, but I usually opted for the combat shotty with the "And stay back!" perk and 12ga magnum rounds. It really helps having the "Robotics Expert" perk too.

I check it out just to be sure and roboscorpion Mk4 (smaller one) died after 5 swings with proton axe (in VATS). Maybe they were critical, maybe I was just lucky, but I managed to do it. I may run some more tests one day to check it for 100%

So I am the only one holorifling them to death with OC ammo while jumping around like a rabbit on crack to avoid their pincers?

The easiest tactic, I found on my melee character, was to use the protonic inversal axe and charge at them. Try to manoeuvre them into a small group and just circle strafe around them swinging away. They can't turn fast enough to hit you and the axe wears away at you standard roboscorp pretty easily. For context, I was level ~27 with 90 melee, I only just did OWB the other day.

That's actually probably a better description of how I tended to engage them as well. You have to corral them doggies, yee-haw.

I find it interesting that I do the same thing with ranged Energy Weapons, strafing while jumping around them, dodging their shots and taking chunks of their HP with the holorifle

Does anyone else plan out their characters before they play? I have a template in Word and everything, I feel like such a nerd.

I don't have anything up in Word, but I'm thinking a lot how my characters will be; however, I'm also playing where I'm making choices I would probably do myself in real life.

But yeah, I was thinking a lot about creating a female BoS member before creating her.

I don't, I just decide what I want beforehand then do it, or decide there and then. Good idea on planning though smile.gif

Also, should I buy Dead Money, Honest Hearts and Old World Blues before buying Lonesome Road? I still haven't finished the game yet because it's getting as buggy as hell (freezing, lagging all over the place, even installed to HDD) so I can finish them before I complete the game, but should I do them in order?

The extent of my planning is usually the main combat skill (or lack of) and the major decision (in this case, who to side with). Because there's a chance of me leaving the game alone mid-playthrough, I use the "first name" field to note these two things, so my current character is called MeleeLegion. It's not like your name ever actually matters. The only time I've seen it come up actually in game is when you talk to the NCR ranger at the top of the road that leads to Nelson: he calls you a scrub or something, and one of the dialogue choices is "The names [x], actually".

I plan characters, how the progress (in terms of perks, traits and skills) and what weapons/combat style to use, but I don't write back-stories or anything like that. I tend to leave that to LARPers and people who play Inquisitor.

On the topic of the Roboscorpions, I had trouble with them because I can't stand energy weapons. All of my Fallout characters are always firearm purists, so to speak; I only touch it if it spits lead. I went in there with a Franchi SPAS-12 and Colt Anaconda, the two weapons that paved my way through the Mojave, and they were just f*cking bullet sponges. I've already vowed not to return to the Big MT on my new character. It was fun going through the DLC once, but none of the rewards it offered are worth going back to me.

I usually make up characters as I download mods, I posted a list of my characters earlier and I put up this screenshot on Nexus here.

I always make up background stories as well, but I don't write them down or anything.

What the f*ck Pat? Weren't you giving me sh*t for using a composite frame on my This Machine? Good lord man.

That's because you don't put a f*cking composite frame on a classic rifle. You should know better Eric.

Yet you put modern guns in a retro-futuristic game?

For shame Patrick.
