Blades
I love that speedo only going to 110mph, and you can surpass it. My Fiat Punto 1.2 speedo goes all the way to 140mph! It struggles past 90mph though, lol. Â I'm amazed that a car from 1991 is only hitting 100k now. My Punto is 2002 and it's over 101k now. I remember when it hit 100k, I just pulled into the car park at uni, just noticed it when I looked down at the dash when I turned it off.

Lol, yeah they underrated the speeds of cars a lot, especially in the 80's. There was actually a law which forced automakers to top out speedos at 85mph, when most could go well over that. I could most likely hit 120-130mph in my Camaro. I've seen people with V6 third gens say they hit 40+, which I find kind of hard to believe. Couldn't imagine struggling largely past 90. It's still got a little pull through 100-115, give me another 2 miles and I might hit 125mph

-slash
The thing you have to remember about top speeds is that the gear and diff ratios always limit it. I've seen guys who claim to take their cars past 300km/h when with the ratios they also claim it's just completely impossible, no matter how much power they have. Yeah, I felt like an ass when I called out a guy claiming he hit like 140 in the Camaro, I thought they couldn't due to gearing. But he did the math and I guess with the manual and the right rear end it can hit over 300 or some crazy sh*t. If it had enough power, of course. Â @chris, lol thought the same thing. Lurch
I missed this topic? Err...congrats that your car hasn't totally fallen apart yet. I still think it needs a V8.

It's getting there... and a V8 might not be too out of the question. I just hung out with a good friends boyfriend last night and his friend, they and their friends work on cars all the time. Just swapped a new SRT-4 engine (into an SRT-4 of course), and later that day the guy drove down to Florida on it, so i think they know their sh*t. Getting the funds for the engine and enough beer is the problem  @McLovin  Got that too
chris
My golf hit 145,000 miles the other day but i didnt have the chance to snap a picture. I might just wait for 145,541 instead

Getting the funds for the engine and enough beer is the problem Best bet would to be to find a wrecked Z28/IROC Z/Trans AM. That way you could grab everything you need. Engine, ECU, driveshaft, 16" wheels, 8.5" rear end (lots of the time with an LSD and disc brakes). Would probably need a bigger radiator as well. Most everything should be pretty easy cheesy and bolt right up (dunno about the ECU and wiring harness and what all wiring would have to be spliced and sh*t). If your friends can easily swap an SRT-4 engine, this should be fairly easy for them. Edited May 7, 2009 by Lurch

Pico
I'm definitely giving it a though. Of course I would check out the rest of the car and make sure nothings too f*cked up. I'd have to reinforce the frame for sure, as the one part is rusted up. Â And yeah, if i did do it, there'd be a build thread But of course I'm not promising anything. Unless I get some work I was asked to do (weekend heating and cooling gig, $25/hr!) this won't happen any time soon. f*cking tickets, birthdays, holidays... and bills... chris
When im fully qualified after i finish college next year with some luck ill have a good well paying job, i might look into getting myself a bit of a project car to learn more about cars on. I would love to get something old to turn into a sleeper, maybe get a ford granada and put a crazy engine into it, give it a sorta rat rod look with enough power to leave the cats at the traffic lights    Maybe not as fast as that but still with some punch. Pico
So guys... AWESOME news on my car! Actually... no, not awesome news at all. Â So I was hanging out with a bunch of friends tonight. The guys that I was talking about above, actually. Well, I'm unfamiliar to the area and as I'm leaving I come up to a 3 way stop, I can only go left or right. Didn't know that. So I slam on the brakes, amazingly I wasn't even speeding, and they lock up due to the wet, gravel road. I go flying into a 30 degree steep, 20 or so feet long ditch that ends in a concrete creek thing. Â Well thank f*cking god the guys I'm with have a truck and after an hour we had it out. To my f*cking surprise the goddamn thing starts up after f*cking with the steering wheel a bit. More so, there's NOTHING wrong with it! I f*cking hit that ditch pretty hard, and the damn car seems 100% the same. All that happened was my license plate bent a tiny bit and I've got scrapes on each side of the lower front bumper. Â I've grown some more respect for the Camaro. If it could take that abuse... well sh*t, I don't think I need to say more. So yeah, while it was a sh*tty experience it turned out alright I guess. Killed my night though... but hey, at least I can say my car and I are alright!
chris
Thats luckly/unlucky Pico, if i was you i would make sure the car is mechanically sound before taking it out again, im sure you have a decent ammount of knowledge about your car to do the inspections yourself. Pico
Well I gave it a quick glance before I left to work today, no leaks or anything. After work I took it down the highway for about 2 minutes, kind of pushing it hard and it just kept getting hotter and hotter. It does that every once in a while so it might not be anything new. But, I noticed my fan didn't kick in when I got home and started it again (temp guage was still half way up). So hopefully that's all it is. My coolant levels are fine and my radiator looked in tact... gonna have some friends give it a look over if it keeps getting hot, maybe they'll have a better idea than me. Â Got a better look at the damage to the bumper. A little worse than I though, but still not that bad. A lot of paint cracked off, proof of the sh*tty paint job the previous owner did. And my left fender bent in a bit near the front lip. I might post pics eventually, if I get around to taking any.
