Blackbird88
R* don't want to get their game modded. They simply don't support mods/modders

DexX
The agreement is tacit. While they do not openly support or endorse mods, they haven't done anything major to prevent mods either. R* don't want to get their game modded. They simply don't support mods/modders That would be a better argument if half the game files weren't text documents. Every single one of those files could have been hardcoded with ease. And after 7 years, and 4 pc games, they had ample opportunity to tell us to piss off and enforce it. They haven't yet. Ultraussie
One of the major reaons PC GTA's are purchased is for the mods. Rockstar realises this. If they hardcoded all of GTA in an .exe file, it would result in less sales. Rockstar doesnt support modding, but they realise that people buy the PC version just to mod. And Rockstar likes money. DexX
The companies who want money from their products usually do not go open source lol. On the PC, most of the top selling games not only have some sort of SDK or tools, but they are provided by or at least supported by the developer or publisher. Id software is the only company i can recall that actually released full source code for any of their commercial games. And that was only after they had finished licensing the engines for profit. In any case, modding games on the PC is de rigueur. Too say it's not profitable is silly. Look at any PC FPS game for a quick example. The mere implication that a sdk or any kind of official support from R* would detract from the profitability of this game is ludicrous. Infact, it may have helped boost the sales of an otherwise lackluster port.
lpgunit
The only time that you won't bother letting your audience to mess with your data files is when you're developing a kiddie game or two, unless if the engine is easy to crack and experiment with. The problem is that I find R* a bit strange sometimes, stating that their games support modding (see the GTASA website), but don't actually provide any SDKs and stuff. They should've done so in the next edition of Grand Theft Auto if they wanted fans to cheer at them (and in Max Payne 3, which was said to use RAGE).
