Life of Brian

One of the funniest British films ever and arguably the Python crew's best. As much as I like Taxi Driver, if I were to sit and watch one of the two again it would be Life of Brian everytime. Two of my favourite lines in the movie:

Brian: Excuse me. Are you the Judean People's Front?

Reg: f*ck off! We're the People's Front of Judea

[a line of prisoners files past a jailer]

Coordinator: Crucifixion?

Prisoner: Yes.

Coordinator: Good. Out of the door, line on the left, one cross each.

[Next prisoner]

Coordinator: Crucifixion?

Mr. Cheeky: Er, no, freedom actually.

Coordinator: What?

Mr. Cheeky: Yeah, they said I hadn't done anything and I could go and live on an island somewhere.

Coordinator: Oh I say, that's very nice. Well, off you go then.

Mr. Cheeky: No, I'm just pulling your leg, it's crucifixion really.

Coordinator: [laughing] Oh yes, very good. Well...

Mr. Cheeky: Yes I know, out of the door, one cross each, line on the left.

Legendary.

Taxi Driver.

Why? Life of Brian is an incredibly funny film, but Taxi Driver beats it by an inch. Robert DeNiro is great in the film and like I said in the Raging Bull poll, Martin Scorcese is great at directing this again. Such an iconic film too, just like Life of Brian, but a better film by an inch.

I agree 100%. The movie is hilarious. Taxi Driver is a great movie no doubt, but hilarity of Life of Brian wins.

...And always look on the bright side of life...

It's going to have to be Taxi Driver for me.

Martin Scorsese's best film in my opinion, some might argue goodfellas is better but I prefer Taxi Driver.

Robert De Niro plays Travis Bickle greatly. Showing a man who's clealy had enough of society and portraying his descent into madness. Coupled with memorable moments, including a cameo from Scorsese him self as man who discusses what a 44. magnum "would do to a womans pussy". Also some great saxophone work from Bernard Herrmann for the movies score.

And of course the memorable line "You talkin' to me?", quoted by so many people.

Life of brian is a great comedy though, but not enough to outweigh my decision for Taxi Driver.

It has to be The Life of Brian for me. I never got into Taxi Driver much.

sh*t, tough first round. Monty Python completely changed comedy, and Life if Brian is my favourite film of theirs, but I'll have to go with Taxi Driver. I always love the concept of vigilantes, especially in film and when walking along the street I sometimes agree with some of Bickle's opinions of the scum of the night.

De Niro made this film, he really is a great actor. Papanesta basically said what's what. Also in the long run it influenced films massively - moreso than Life of Brian in my opinion.

When I first saw it I was pretty shocked by the final scene. The whole film had Bickle thinking violent thoughts, then it culminates in a very realistic shootout. The scene just before when he's outside talking to Harvey Keitel, you just know something's going to kick off.

Hm... I went with Taxi Driver.

Might be to do with when I saw the films, Taxi Driver came into my life just as I really began to get into films so it holds a special place in my heart. Travis in my eyes, is one of cinemas greatest characters. As the film goes on, your view of what is on screen begins to change along with Travis'. You hate who he hates, grow to love who he loves and feel for him as his life begins to flip on its head. Plus, the ending was excellent.

I nominated Life of Brian so its pretty obvious

But my reason is it completely changed the way comedy was done, it was rude, crude and idn't give a sh*t who it offended. It had me crying the whole way through and the timing was brillient. This is personally my Favorite by the Monty Python Crew. Taxi driver, while an awesome film doesn't match the revolution of this film and plus there is no other film like Life of Brian

Travis Bickle is not the Messiah, he's just a very naughty boy.

Fail, I know...

Ohhh, toguh competition. Life of Brian takes the cake, however. That sh*t was revolutionary.

They're both great in different ways. If I weren't hungover, and if it were sunny, I'd probably be in a better mood and vote for 'Brian'. However, my head is pounding and the weather suggests that I should go for Taxi Driver. Them's the breaks.

Haha I see in the mood for some violence are we?

The polls looked like they're currently tied. wow.gif

As Biggus Dickus, i declare The Life of Brian to be the better film. What other film makes crucifixion look so enjoyable?

The Monty Python film has some iconic British comedy moments in it, like the crucifiction, and although Taxi Driver was a great film, Life Of Brian just edges it in my opinion. The poll is very close.

I went for good old Monty Python. Taxi Driver is good, don't get me wrong, but Life of Brian beat it by an inch

I think the scenes after the shoot out are even more effective.

And oh sh*t, I just tied it. wow.gif

Oh sh*t. Tied again!

I cannot bear to see De Niro's two best performances go out in the first round....

Pap, how long has each poll got before its locked and finished.

Also if say Taxi Driver loses this round will it be out of the whole compition indefinatly or will you pit the three losers from the first polls agasint each other monocle.gif

Taxi Driver is an excellent film. Monty Python is a funny troupe, but Scorsese's classic trumps it. Meanwhile, this is a very odd pairing.

compeletly randomized. It makes the competition a whole lot more exciting then pairing films of similar attribute together

Taxi Driver. One of the most memorable scenes in that film for me was when Travis slowly pushes the tv over with his foot as you can just feel the level of disgust within him spiraling out of control.

Life of Brian was funny, but it's not something that has stuck with me.

Life of Brian is a great comedy, but its nowhere near the brilliance of Taxi Driver. My vote goes to Taxi Driver, without a doubt.

Taxi Driver, easily. It pulls you into a dystopian New York City where the criminals run riot. De Niro plays the vigilant Travis Bickle, an icon character who's mind is laid out for us all to see. The whole mood of the film is brilliant to watch as well.

Life of Brian is good, but Taxi Driver is just a classic.

I think Life Of Brian is a really overrated movie and I think it's something that's remembered more for it's controversy after the film was released rather than the actual jokes. Besides, Taxi Driver is a cracking good movie. Great performances from De Niro and Foster. A true classic.

BLASTPHEMER.

Jokes, I just love the way it is written plus the whole premiese of the jesus getting mixed up for another baby is brillient in itself.

Anyway its just an opinion

+1 for Taxi Driver.

I'm in the same boat as most who have voted the same. Scorsese and Deniro really pulled it off with the film, and The Life of Brian just didn't have that awe-inspiring response from me. Taxi Driver without a doubt.

Monty Python is overrated. There, I said it.

Anyways, my vote goes to Taxi Driver. I like both, but I tend to prefer thrillers and dramas over comedies.
