Raging Bull.

Why? Just a better film in my opinion. It's one of the best biographical films of all time, if not the best. The acting is great and Martin Scorcese is a great director and you can tell here. American Psycho is a good film, just not as good as Raging Bull.

Ouch, tough call here.

But I'm going with American Psycho.

As much as I loved Raging Bull, American Psycho was a film that kind of stuck with me. A sick and twisted portrayal of the corporate buisness in the 80's. It had some great quotes with it, some which I cannot help requoting often, and Patrick Bateman has got to be one of the most memorable movie characters played perfectly by Christian Bale who reall captures the essence of a man who's gone over the edge. Plus a great 80's soundtrack to boot. Feeding cats to ATM's? Chasing prostitutes down stairways with a chainsaw? Blowing up a police car with one shot? You'll find it American Psycho.

Raging Bull

Why ? It is a scorsesee classic that delivers on its premiese. It has a great story and the acting is just amazing. I was close to American Psyco but while its an amazing film I don't think it was as well made and I much prefere the style of Direction in Raging Bull.

Had to go with American Psycho. Nothing to take away from Raging Bull, which was one of DeNiro's finest performances. I felt American Psycho was a film I could watch and re-watch without ever getting tired of it. A great outlook on the life of 80's business and yuppie culture, along with the disturbing musings of a madman, Patrick Bateman. Plus I have a hardon for Christian Bale. I mean, who doesn't? sly.gif

But yeah, I'm going to have to go with American Psycho here. I just think it is a better movie than Raging Bull overall ( I never got into Raging Bull, good movie and all though). As Gman said, it was a great take on the 80's/yuppie culture and had some terrific scenes. The scene where Bateman dances/kills to Huey Lewis and The News is just brilliant.

Not to take away from Raging Bull, but American Psycho is just one of those films I can watch over and over. Mary Harron took some pretty difficult material and turned it into something wonderful.

I honestly couldn't pick between these, two amazing films.

Nulled.  confused.gif

I just about nulled mine as well, but now that I've thought it over, I have to go with Raging Bull. DeNiro did such as amazing job of creating a volatile character, not to mention the physical change he had to go through to match the character in his later years. I kinda wish I had read Jake LaMotta's book to compare it to the film though.

Very tough choice, a giant is going out in the first round!

I had to back American Psycho. I love both films, but I've got a soft spot for American Psycho as it's one of those films that you can just quote all day long and watch it over and over again. Bale's performance is amazing, portraying a silently screwed up character who is just a pleasure to watch.

For the exact same reasons, I chose American Psycho

American Psycho will win because it's more accessible to this forum's demographic... as much as I enjoy that movie Raging Bull is a truly classic film and possibly Scorsese's finest. A beautiful movie, this is honestly no contest in my book.

Of course I voted for a film that I nominated and I'll be honest with you. I hate every single one of you who voted for American Psycho, a film that comes nowhere near the brilliance that Raging Bull accomplishes.

I voted Raging Bull. I loved American Psycho, but Raging Bull is a masterpiece. It's really unfortunate to see it go out. I think it deserves a place in (at least) the final 16. Oh well...

I was on the fence. But it came down to what movie entertained me the most, and American Psycho does that.

I voted for American Psycho. Christian Bale is really disturbing there. The whole movie is. Raging Bull, I dunno, you call it a masterpiece, a work of art, but I never really enjoyed it.

I was very torn when making this decision, but reluctantly made my decision. I didn't null vote, as much as I wanted to. In the end I went for American Psycho.

I love everything about Bateman and his actions, the things he did, and the way he did them was simply sublime, something to be admired. But of course, a film isn't solely judged on the main character. While I admired Raging Bull and what effect it had on me as a whole, it didn't quite match up to that of American Psycho; a film I can watch over and over again. It hit me hard upon watching it for the first time. I've not been astonished about watching many films, but American Psycho is certainly one of them. For days on end, after I'd seen the film, it was constantly on my mind, and I'd be constantly bringing it up in conversations with any random stanger. It stayed on my mind, and had me in awe for a prolonged period. For that reason, it pips Raging bull to the post for me.

Raging Bull, based mostly on the two actors' performances. DeNiro tops Bale on this one.
