DaveC2003
Cant we stop calling them modders and instead call them hackers ?? calling the hackers modders have clouded and confused this discussion beyond reason, so can we agree on making a distinction between :MODDERS : people who modify the game engine for the enjoyment/benefit of themselves and the community. HACKERS : people who modify the game engine to either gain an unfair advantage or grief other players. (these are just my own definitions I made up on the fly, its just to get the point across) It really isnt fair to lob real honest modders in with hackers, and by not making a distinction between the 2 we get the same circular argument going that has been going on since we started calling hackers modders. These are cheaters who do not know how to play GTA4 and spoils the enjoyment of everyone else connected who play fair.

OutOfTimer
People paid for the game, but when they install, it they must agree to the license. I'm sure nobody reads that, but if you contact either Rockstar or Microsoft saying you want your money back because you were banned, they will throw you that info, and you will shut up because you agreed. It's written that cheating is not allowed, and to use the software you must agree with that. ROFL Clicking on the license agreement is not legally binding in the European Union. I'm afraid your mind got poisoned by American movies... and that's exactly what they want you to believe. You're a little dreamer. If you wanna learn something about the corporate policy... read my post again. You'll see who's right in practice. Massive account banning my a*ss, Micro$oft! Oh yeah??? Well does that mean that the people who don't cheat deserve a refund since they can't play multiplayer??? i want my f*cking money back because I sure as sh*t didn't pay $100 if I can't play a fair legit game of multiplayer. Agree with you 100%! But well, corporate policy... your whining doesn't bring sufficient financial losses. I'm sorry. Agree with you 100%! But well, corporate policy... your whining doesn't bring sufficient financial losses. I'm sorry. I'm fairly sure you are wrong there. Firstly, one of the larger studios to have worked on Grand Theft Auto IV is Rockstar North, based in Scotland, thus the European Union. Secondly, any EULA is like a contract; before you installed the game itself you had to indicate that you have read and understand the agreement, which you say you did. At that point it no longer is the responsibility of Rockstar, TakeTwo, Microsoft or any other involved party whether you've actually read the EULA, you pretend that you have. Next to that, the multiplayer itself gets hosted by Microsoft's Live service, which you simply do not pay for. Being allowed on Live is a privilege rather than a right, meaning they're free to exclude you from any service at their likings. In fact, cheating is a reason to be excluded from Windows Live as well.
Samcharles
I think it's pretty amazing that grown ups are angry because some people cheat. It's a game for crying out loud. I don't give one inch about your leaderboards and scores. The issue isn't about the leaderboards. It's about because when I play multiplayer I play for a fun, competitive experience. The some knucklehead comes in with a rocket machine gun cheat. He just keeps blowing everyone up and no one else even gets a chance to fire. That's not fun for everyone else. It takes away from the whole reason they joined to play the game.
SativaHaze
I simply mod games to enhance it and make it more real. I usually add different selections of pistols and machine guns as well as make the city a little more real with real posters, logos etc etc ect I don't tweak the game properties at all, just the look of the game. Thats my style of "Modding" or whatever. People who mod the game to make themselves better during online play are just exploiting something that can be fun. They are cheaters. It would have been nice to have a built in tool to mod the files and tag them etc. PC games can be "Modable" and "Hackproof" at the same time using file systems checks and a dedicated sever. Let the "cheaters" host thier own games... At some point you just have to make a decision... custom gaming... or online play.... Overall I love this game. I can play it in it's full spendor and it's the graphics are unreal, the new patches helped A LOT Edited April 13, 2009 by SativaHaze

Weses
It's a shame to see GTA IV PC multiplayer go down like this, and seeing people defend it is worse. I honestly hope that Rockstar disables modding in MP alltogether, the 360 version doesn't have any modders and it's probably my favorite online 360 game (And has been since its release last year). I think I'll stay with that version until Rockstar Toronto finds a way to fix this mess. And no, they won't lose any money by doing that. The only reason most people are currently modding in multiplayer is because the people who don't mod have stopped playing, due to the corruptive modders. kalasnikov
Why the hell there is no option to enable and disable mods in server options. call of dutys have option to have pb or not to have. that would be a solution to that problem and everyone is happy! people with mods could play in servers with mods on and people who dislikes any kind of mod using could play on mods disabled server. And another option is to add server admins power to kick without voting

Gryet
Is there this problem in other games let me think o wait... no? WHY? they have anti-cheat!!! People play call of duty, far cry 2 , world in conflict , left 4 dead, TF2, rainbow six games fine why is that because they have anti cheat!! and if they want to mod they can by turning off anti-cheat or being able to set up dedicated servers in which case this game lack both LOL I haven't played the games you mention online, so I cannot tell if they are ruined by cheaters. HOWEVER most other games I've played online HAS been ruined by cheaters. What would solve the problem is dedicated servers. As they are not avalible, Rockstar should ban modders / cheaters from the current servers. And yeeeeeeesss, it is not YOUR fault, you poor thing, that Rockstar does not ban you. You are completely innocent. I'll try that trick next time I travel 210 km/h downtown and mow down a handfull of retired teachers and girl scouts: Blame Nissan for selling me a car that can go 210 km/h ..... pfff

So you can choose to have empty game servers with a few modders on, or full game servers with no modders on. Simple.

Waynio
I walked into my bro's room he plays gta iv online regular, I stood there and seen some absolute ****** spawn around 500 skate park half pipes all over the taxing track, it really p***** me off and motivated me to make another post, it would not surprise me if I have spent more time on here than playing the damn game, the online part I do remember was great fun before people started wrecking the game intentionally, now I just think of the MP as an absolute failure. If rockstar & GFWL don't properly fix this & have a strong anti cheat system which is updated regular by the next patch I am going to play around with the single player for a bit more and then crush my game and never buy another rockstar product ever again. My pc can handle the single player on very nice settings and runs very smooth 30 to 100 fps with 50 fps avg, as a single player the game it is perfect since 1.0.3.0, so I think I'm being too harsh in saying I will not buy another rockstar game, I guess rockstar is just not ready this time for supporting a quality MP experience. Waynio
Anyone in the know who could explain this to me, Why is using a trainer to spoil competitive gaming being classed as modding, I would expect real modders to be p***** off for being connected with this kind of ****. An example of a true mod for me is new Islands with cool things to do on them, motorbikes in GTA III, Nicely moddelled Lamborghinis in place of infernus, remoddelled guns etc. I believe someone made an extensive trainer for single player and some **** changed a bit of the code so it could be used online, I doubt that would be hard to do, that is not modding that is amateur hacking and it is turning out to be highly annoying, if all other competitive online games went this way I would quit gaming completely.
