Quick Stop
The paint on my golf is starting to look a bit rubbish imo and i would like to have it painted Matte Black, being at college my budget is as tight as the virgin Mary's vagoo so i couldnt afford a proffesional respray. Has anybody here ever done this sort of thing by themselves? Any information on this would be a great help.
Damien.
Just roll paint it by hand, looks badass with matte black rolled on Edited April 9, 2009 by Damien.
AZAZEL
I refuse to believe that that ^ has been rolled on. Painted with regular spray paint, at least. Looks too smooth.

Damien.
I got it from a car ad we're the owner said it was roll painted. Here's another rolled car: Maybe it ain't the best way to paint a car but it's cheap
rmmstnr
If you're really looking to save some green and not spend a week, rattle-can's the way to go. If this is how everybody else does their roll-jobs, I'll stick with spray-paint or the expensive stuff. As much of a cheap-skate as I am, I'm also much too lazy for all that sanding Hot Rod Magazine to the rescue! http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/body/hr..._job/index.html If you do spray it, go easy on it and layer it up to prevent runs. Don't forget primer or to at least lightly sand the paint for adhesion. Have fun!

Slamman
My Convertible Firebird came with a mosly used bottle of paint, the nice thing (I should say can, not bottle) is that it affords me a working replacement type already, the scary thing is always applying paint and making it look seamless and not a hand done mess straight off! Any REAL major painting should be done in a booth and not exposing any element outdoors, it's nasty! Also, a shop like Maaco offers their Presidential Paint jobs regularily at $500, which negates most REAL prep work and I think spawned plenty of bad opinions as well, maybe because of the cheap nature, but I would entertain the idea at this point... if one can EVEN afford $500 now!! les
A lot of times you can find body work schools that do work for free, as an educational thing. There was one in my old town in new york, and there's one here too. The job they do isn't quite as good as taking to professionals, and it takes a lot longer, but it's better than anything you'll be able to do with no experience. Another route is to buy a spray gun and go at it. It's not hard just takes so practice. The artist formerly known as lesfleanut.
Slamman
Most of the ads I've seen for schools that train people in on car repairs, use obvious donated cars in exchange for a tax break, if you itemize, and if you can get some sort of good value on your car, I'd rather they could work on my car and give it back to me when finished, I don't itemize anything on my taxes! -slash
Air compressors can be found cheap, then you need a top feed spray gun. Bottom feeds are rubbish. That would be for the best finish on the cheap. Otherwise get spray cans. They're like $3 around here. 6 or so should cover a car depending on how thick the paint is. Anyone who does it with a roller is a dickhead.

Anyone who does it with a roller is a dickhead. dude have you seen the quality of some of these roller kits you can buy for stupid cheap prices, the quality of the finish isnt amazing, but its a million times better than spray cans any day. you get blotches, bleeds, thick parts of paint, and all kinds of sh*t happen if you use spray cans, the only cars you should spray paint is weekend racers, destruction derby cars etc.. but i think the best thing to do is ebay a cheap airbrush kit (with compressor) and buy a wide nozzle and just do it all yourself, for paint i would empty spray cans for the paint. even though i said not to use spray cans it doesnt matter, its all in the nozzle and force of the paint (so with a airbrush kit youve got a strong air pressure and a very good nozzle for quality) unlike the propellent and little plastic nozzle of a spray can. also this car has been painted with a roller kit, i dont know about the gloss though ? but anyway if your doing matt who cares about gloss hahaha Edited April 15, 2009 by Neal40000
NeoSNightmarE
flat black does work well, when I was working at the shop we did our manager's sebring like that and it looks mint now. The key really is to evenly coat and allow it proper time to dry...other colors though, i really don't know how well it would work. gl
Blades
I sprayed the wheels on my car... They came out alright. One of the wheel trims was cracked, I wanted to see what it would look like with black wheels... I kind of like the utilitarian / rat-rod look anyway. No unnecessary crap like wheel trims for me! lol Maybe rat-rod is a bit ambitious for a 1.2... I wouldn't be sure about the entire car though... Good luck with that. *gta star*
That's the exact same colour as my Punto, I really like it aswell. With regards to the wheels, I don't think they look that good, they look too plain in my opinion.
stretch.
Vag paint is hard stuff. Get a proper detailer out to it, might only need an aggressive machine polish to bring it up.
