TechTonic007 Posted April 9, 2009 Share Posted April 9, 2009 Now that you have the game, put some gasoline on the dvds and then light a match and throw into the liquid and then look how all your hopes banishes...[just kidding] The game has a hugh performance issue, but with a big amount of memory, a powerfull processor, GPU, and some excellent tweaks posted in this webpage is very possible than the miracle of enjoying one of the greatest games ever created happens in your life... Though I bought it just 9 days after the official release in Europe (yeah my country is kinda late on these things). I hope you're ready to be disappointed. That's true. It's a bad port, I think they should have taken more time with it in order to make a good port, rather than what appeared to be a cheap port, almost a half arsed attempt. It was abosultely shocking, the problems and the need for so many patchs, some that only made the game worse! I'm glad (for the first time in a long time) I stuck with consoles. GTA IV PC isn't utter sh*t. Really, you guys exaggerate a lot or are really pessimists. Or you don't recognize a good game... dunno which one is. If you liked the game on the console, you must like it on the PC. Even though the port was not so good as it should be, we must be aware that: it's the first time this engine is ported to the PC, it's a next-gen GTA, so it's normal that it isn't so good as the previous games. If I remember correctly, when GTA III was out, it was the same thing. I had to buy more RAM and a new graphics card to play the game, and even though the graphics card was one of the best on that year, I couldn't play the game with nice settings... resolution was 800 x 600! And my monitor at the time could go well to 1280 x 1024... Of course they could and should have done a better work. It's obvious they didn't build the PC version "from scratch", like they claim they did. It's an obvious port from the consoles. Still, they're slowly fixing the problems... how many companies release their games and don't give a sh*t about the costumer? I'm not defending Rockstar Toronto's work, but at least they showed their face and they're trying to fix the errors. As a fan and gamer I'm happy that they're HERE giving support. Also, tell me honestly, how many games in 2008 were worth 50 Euro (the price of the PC version)? I can count them with my hand... I only bought 1 other game at full price, which was Race Driver GRID (and I regretted that a little bit...). All the other good games were bought when their price was down. When you see such sh*tty games coming out every year, you must be thankful that there are still out there producers like Rockstar who do a hell of an effort to bring you an outstanding game. IMO GTA IV is one of the best games EVER. And I play videogames since I was 5 years old... It's not as good as I thought it would be. They've cut a lot of funny things just to be more realistic, besides other details. I don't agree with the 10/10 the game has received. The PC version as some problems because it was a bad port. But saying that the game is utter sh*t is being an ignorant when it comes to gaming. Really. All the work, the detail that is present on GTA IV is, to me, enough proof that it was a game made by people that KNOW how to create a great gaming experience. Few games gave me such a pleasure to play. I'm a big fan of the GTA series, that's true, but this GTA IV simple put the bar even higher. It's like Half-Life... to me both Valve - Half-Life and Rockstar - GTA do everything they can to bring you a great game. I just wish more companies were like them. I agree, it's just that most of the many times I played IV PC, it was crashing or failing in other ways, and the fact there were loads of problems with my personal play experineces probably tainted my view on it. Most of what I've heard too is just problems and problems, and the console version I have has never failed on me once sine realise. But I know PC version is better in other respects, if you can get it to work! Modding for example, a staple of the GTA community for years, and only achievable through PC. But I just think R* were lazy with IV, or they could have set it up so it was build for future PCs, games are for now not 5 years time!
