NawlinsIrish
Grand Theft Auto: Delta City Blues This game will take place in Delta City; a New Orleans parallel. I feel that New Orleans would be an ideal place for a GTA game because of the diversity it offers. French, Spanish, Irish, African, German, Italian, Jewish, and Caribbean influence can all be found here in great amounts. The city has a rich history and often tops the list in terms of violent crime. From street gangs in the 9th Ward to the Marcello Crime Family, all the way over to the Irish posses in the Irish Channel, New Orleans has always been a hotbed for criminal activity. The city is infamous for gambling and prostitution, and it being a major port city makes it a center for drug trafficking. As for corrupt politicians, you'd be pretty hard pressed to find something more controlled by criminals than Louisiana political society. Also, a hurricane would be a great way to explain why some parts of the city are closed off in the beginning of the game. Plus, wouldn't it be awesome to walk down Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras? Anyway...I don't have too much of the location figured out besides the city that it will be based on. Character: Agwe Aristade Nationality: Haitian Age: 30 Height: 6'1 Weight: 185 lbs Agwe Aristade is a Haitian immigrant to Delta City. In Haiti, Agwe was a Sergeant in the Haitian Army before a violent coup, in which the military was disbanded and replaced with the Haitian National Police. Because of witch hunts against former members of the military, Agwe was forced to leave his wife and only child in Haiti, and escape to Delta City, where his relatives live in the Rita Projects (9th ward knock-off). He starts working for his uncle, Charli Aristade, doing minor drug deals and running gambling operations until he runs into trouble by selling drugs on Irish Mob turf in the Cork Channel (Irish Channel knock-off). Instead of killing Agwe, Sean Sullivan, the underboss of the family, sees a valuable asset in Agwe. He hires Agwe to do some contract killing (which Sean is doing under the Sicilian Mafia). Most of the money Agwe makes is going back to his family in Haiti in his hopes to eventually bring them to America. The story will include run-ins with semi-socialist power-hungry corrupt politicians (think Huey Long), the Sicilian Mafia's plans to eradicate said politicians (think Carlos Marcello's involvement with the JFK assassination), and finally girls flashing you in the French Quarter for beads. Agwe is a character much like Niko, except he does not have such a bleak outlook on life. He has a family to live for and still fervently believes in the American Dream. A reflection of this is that he always is trying to Americanize himself (using American slang, listening to American music, etc.) His military experience has given him experience in weapons and more importantly in the tactics of urban warfare. jplip
I know New Orleans.. It has that gritty appeal.. i like it.] But where are the pictures?
Mafioso86
You would definitely need to work Katrina into that somehow... which brings up part of the problem with the 9th Ward... I think a lot of it was destroyed, plus the city of New Orleans has been raising a lot of the projects... I don't know which wards specifically, but I know a bunch of them got torn down post Katrina. Omnia sunt Communia
I like it. I've been thinking about an New Orleans-based Grand Theft Auto for a long time now. The city itself always intrigued me and I knew that it could make a good setting for a game; I just didn't know enough about it to make something like this! You've got to include the Buyous and the Cajun gangs that inhabit them. Also, a gang of Voodoo Practitioners is essential. It just wouldn't be a Rockstar game without stereotyping. The only problem I have with it is that I don't like playing games where I can't pronounce my character's name. Is it "Agg-wee"?
El Zilcho
Ah yes. To stop the character from accessing the whole map at the beggining you could have the flooded bayous blocking roads? U R B A N I T A S
Omnia sunt Communia
Taken from Wikipedia: The racial makeup of the city was 67.25% African American, 28.05% White, 0.20% Native American, 2.26% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.93% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 3.06% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. That would make for an interesting setting, no doubt. We haven't played a GTA yet where white people are the smaller race. Even in San Andreas, when we played as a black male in the ghetto, white people still seemed to outnumber you everywhere you went. The city also features a wide array of religions: Catholicism, Voodoo and Judaism being the three major ones. With this could we see The Jewish Mob making a return from GTA IV? Don't forget the streetcars. They are a famous part of New Orleans transportation service with the St. Charles line being historic landmark. It would provide for an interesting way to move around the city much like the cable car in Liberty City. New Orleans has a number of different knicknames, some of which you may want to include into your fictional Delta City? Crescent City, The Big Easy, The City That Care Forgot, America's Most Interesting City, Hollywood South, The Northernmost Caribbean City; these are all names used to describe the city. There is a wide array of movies, plays and other pieces of fiction for Rockstar to parody. Including the Simpsons spin-off: Chief Wiggum, P.I (from The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase). NawlinsIrish
New Orleans was voted most dangerous city in America wasn't it? I'm pretty sure it was near the top of the list. It's like hell out here. Even in the once nice places like the French Quarters no one goes out after dark. Oh, and someone mentioned earlier a gang that uses voodoo, etc. There is actually a gang that hangs around the West Bank made up of mostly Haitian or Jamaican immigrants that believe in voodoo, do rituals, etc. I think they're called Zoe Pound. New Orleans, Detroit, and Baltimore were fighting for that spot throughout the 90s but I've heard Detroit and I know that Baltimore (I currently live there/here) have cleaned up a little bit. The Zoe Pound are a Haitian gang/pride group/record label... didn't know they were in NO, but it makes sense, they have them in Miami and other parts of Florida. I actually mentioned them in a post I made about a new Vice City game. They look pretty much like stereotypical black gangbangers, but they wear a lot of Haitian flags and sh*t (see below) and apparently they do dabble in Voodoo. I think they would be a cool gang to see (well one based on them) in a GTA game. SR2 had the Sons of Samedi whose whole name was based in Voodoo stuff... but the concept there (like most things in SR) was just way to over the top for my liking, not realistic. NawlinsIrish
Yeah, the gang is pretty small here in NO, but they've been known to get violent. Ever since Katrina hit crime has gotten out of control; I was living in the Irish Channel, which wasn't bad because I'm Irish-American myself, but after the hurricane it got ridiculously violent. I feel the same way about the Saint's Row series, I love the realism of the new GTA IV era and I hope they stick with that. I just though it got a but outrageous when CJ was jumping plane to plane in San Andreas. I just love feeling like I'm playing in the middle of a Scorcese movie. Also, I'm going to revamp the Delta City Blues idea sometime this week with pics, specific details, etc.

But all good ideas so far, It seems like the logical place for a GTA Game, although the environment won't be that large...

A Sign of a Tough neighborhood Are they a sign of a tough neighborhood or a sign of a Category 5 Hurricane? HAHA. That actually made me laugh out loud, good one. I agree though, this seems like a good idea. I'm not familiar with the 'gangs of New Orleans' so to speak; though I would like to see it parodied by Rockstar. There's just too much to go on! Mardi Gras, Voodoo, the French, Irish, it's all there waiting to be taken the mick of!
Nikofan112
Hey, you stole my idea you bastard! No, but seriously, I was thinking the exact same thing, and it would be a great location. Plus, with that name you gave, we could have a bunch of people mispronouncing it, like in IV how people called Niko Russian.
