Saggy
Well, I can't seem to find any results on google for a FRAPS alternative that isn't just some stupid capture program. I need something that displays the FPS like FRAPS does, but will work in WINE. Just wondering if anyone knows any off-hand; don't even bother trying to find it on Google. Slamman
I don't even have Fraps, so if it's free, I'll get one as well
Otter
I've got a feeling that ATI tool will display your FPS for you, but I can't tell you if it runs in WINE because I don't know what the living hell WINE is. ATItool or maybe even Rivatuner. (Atitool works with Nvidia cards as well) http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ Slamman, shup.

WINE is software to emulate Windows applications and games under Linux, but it doesn't really have direct hardware support as far as I know. So I doubt anything designed to be graphics-card specific will work, because at the very most, WINE could only use the Linux driver I have, which is undoubtedly different from the Windows one the application was probably designed for. I'll try them out anyway though. Edit: Yeah, it basically complained about not having a driver. Otter
Does wine still use DirectX? YOu may be able to find a useful DirectX wrapper.
Slamman
Eh, figures, saw you mentioning the Linux install size you had. I never got Linux up and running in Gui mode and I still have Suse10, which never gets any love anymore. RedHat still the only one working on the PS3? There were benchmarking games that offer FPS read outs, I believe, but I never had those particular ones. I'd been slowly trying to get my hardware up to speed. What is the intent in particular? Test the FPS of your particular games?
Saggy
@Otter I'm not really sure about that. I've been looking around WineHQ's site, and so far as I can tell it uses some kind of special DirectX, which is probably reason FRAPS doesn't work in the first place. @Slamman Xubuntu and Yellowdog run on the PS3 just fine. Those are the only two that I'm really aware of though. Anyway, I'm just trying to tune the settings for GTA:SA. I could do it by eye, but the problem is that at some points the effects change, and things slow down again. I figured it would be easier with a frame-rate meter to figure out the best-settings. Wolf68k
If Xfire will run in WINE then that should work. Yes it's for chatting but while ingame press ScrollLock+X and you should see a FPS reading in the upper let corner, click on the pin in it's upper right corner, then ScrollLock+X again the rest of xfire should go away but the FPS should remain. I use it all of the time. //edit A quick Google search and I found this Xfire Client on Wine! - Ubuntu Forums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=570627 And this: [FAQ] How to Install XFire using Wine http://www.overclock.net/linux-unix/193916...using-wine.html Edited April 8, 2009 by Wolf68k

Shortcut key just probably isn't usable in WINE. Unfortunately the whole app crashes when I try to actually use the menus. Wolf68k
Well that sucks The only other idea I have is using RivaTuner but I don't know if it'll work with WINE and you might have the same issue that the ATItool might give you. But if you're that desperate give it a try, worse that can/should happen is that it doesn't work.
Otter
Yeah, I've had success using Rivatuner without the proper driver in the past, so it may just work for you. In some magical fashion. Perhaps there is a similar linux friendly app that you can launch before lauching WINE?

Perhaps there is a similar linux friendly app that you can launch before lauching WINE? Unfortunately my Googling skills aren't really capable of finding any that show FPS and don't just capture video. If you search for "FRAPS alternative for Linux" pretty much every result is for video capturing, and the few that aren't only have Linux apps that will show the FPS of OpenGL games or people finding the game-specific option to turn on the FPS display. As far as anything that will show FPS in WINE, so far I haven't found it. I think I'll probably just have to judge it by eye.
