As in for the story missions? I'm stuck on it and not sure if it's worth completing it if it's the last mission??

I know it sound bad, but it pissing me off and to me it wont be worth it if I go through the effort and there's nothing to do afterwards...

REALLY?? it's the last mission ?

I can#t believe that gta3 is a lot shorter than I thought, even easier than gta 4 IMO...

Thanks for the advice....

my problem is though...when I drive through the lower part of the dam where catalina lands...There's cartel cars blocking the entrance.

The 1st entance is easy to get through, after I get through there I find the sniper and shoot the ones at the second entrance, but I only get 5 bullets, and everytime I drive through... I always get killed after the cutscene of Catalina sayin 'air born the plane' -or something like that.

I dunno wat to do it only take about 3 shots and my cars blows up leaving me waaaasted.

--BTW I havent used any cheats yet and trying my best not to!! wink.gif

There is another way to do it that makes it easier (still without cheating), but the best challenge is to do it "straight".

Make sure you pick up all the weapons that the cartel members drop. Including the ones at Catalina's mansion. The two on the balcony will drop an Uzi each as they fall. Take a Cartel cruiser to get to the dam. Time isn't too much of a problem and the cruiser is nice and tough.

Use those to shoot the Cartel members at the entrance to the Dam road. Then you can pick up their weapons as well. Pick up the sniper rifle as you describe it. There are only 5 rounds in it, so make every one count. Get back in your cruiser and crash through the cars that act as a barrier. Stop to get the weapons dropped by the cartel members you shot.

Remember where the cartel members are, shoot them as you come around the corner and they won't do you much damage. Get up into the second tower. There's an M-16 up there which is very useful. As is that high vantage point.

Don't drive all the way to the big building. Run the last bit. Your body armour can take more damage than the cruiser, especially as it'll be quite badly beaten up by now.

When you get onto the roof of the big building, deal with the last cartel member hiding behind the small structure. Run to the far end of the building & get the rocket launcher to shoot down that final target.

It's not easy, but it is possible. Keep trying it and you'll get there eventually colgate.gif

Steve, thanks soo much for that.

It's really saved me a lot of time and hassle, I would have probably given up.

Thing I noticed it it's always best to have a strategy when completeing these missions. It may be obvious, but not to a lot of people believe it or not.

I'm ganna go try it out thanx a lot wink.gif

BTW- thing I'm confused about is apparently I'm on the last mission, but it says I've only completed 30% of the game....What's all that about??..........30% ??

Yes you have to do the side missions like paramedic, taxi etc and hidden packages

In every GTA game since III there are a lot of side-things to do. However, if you were uncautious in GTA3 with completing certain mission lines you may be unable to get the full 100% for completing all side things -- however there was a tool which could fix that problem if you're playing the PC version. By the way, GTA4 also has a percentage meter, have you looked at that one yet? biggrin.gif

Theres this little walkway between a house and a bridge that helps you get there a lot faster, and on the roof of a house along the way you can pick up a rocket launcher with 5 rockets wink.gif makes things a lot easier.

Yes, that is useful. In fact I've just done it again a few times and thought I'd write a bit of a guide about doing it "the hard way".

Big Spoiler alert on the whole of this posting. If you don't want to know any secrets, stop reading here!

OK, still with me?

Save your game before starting. This is difficult and you could well get killed and have to start again.

Drive up to Catalina's mansion and walk into the blue marker.

At the end of the cut scene, when you hit the cartel member, make sure you get his pistol and run for the doorway. The ones on the balcony can't shoot you when you're standing in that doorway. Another cartel member will come towards you from the right, shoot him. Run out and get his Uzi. Run back to the doorway.

There are two cartel members on the balcony above you to the left & right. If you move to one side and forwards a bit then you should be able to get enough of an angle on one of them to shoot him. With any luck he'll drop his AK 47 (sometimes it'll get lodged on the balcony), pick it up.

That might well bring the other two cartel members out from behind the circular flower bed in the drive. They might come out one at a time or together. Shoot him/them, run out and grab the Uzi(s), run back to the doorway.

Edge your way out and to the other side to get the angle on the other cartel member on the balcony. Get his AK 47.

That should be all of them in the mansion area. If you've been fast enough you will have damaged your armour but still have some left and you'll have full health. Run into the garage and get the armour pick-up. Take the cruiser in the garage and drive out.

The instructions say to follow the helicopter. Go the other way biggrin.gif

Turn left out of the mansion, follow the road up the hill and turn left onto the small road that runs the other side of those houses. It's a much faster way to get to the dam entrance.

Stop at the first house on the left, run down to the porch and pick up the M16. Run back up to the cruiser.

Stop again at the last house on the left. Run down to the left hand corner of it and use the slope of the ground to jump up onto the roof. It's advisable to practise this a few times before you start the mission. You have to know the right place to jump from. Don't worry if it takes a few attempts, you have enough time. Once you're on the roof, run along the roof at the front of the house and grab the rocket launcher. Run back up to your cruiser.

Drive down to the end of the road, turn left and follow the road round to the right. Crash into the two cruisers blocking the entrance. Jump out of your car and shoot the two guards. Grab their guns.

Drive down the track towards the dam. Stop by the trees on the right and pick up the sniper rifle.

You only have 5 rounds in it so make good use of them. Take out (in order) the two on the towers, the one on the containers and then the two by the cruisers. Doing it in that order means that the guns the last two drop will still be there when you get there and you can pick them up.

If you get the gun on the right first and then the one on the left you should now be able to see the cartel member standing by the base of the first tower. Select the M16 and shoot him. Be accurate, you don't have all that much ammo.

Rather than driving I just run from this point. I assume you have infinite sprint and won't get tired. Your body armour can take more damage than most vehicles.

Run towards the towers. There's another cartel member ahead of you and to the left. Shoot him as soon as you see him. If he hasn't started running towards you yet then you can blow up the red fuel drum he's carelessly standing next to.

Continue towards the towers. As soon as you're in range, shoot the cartel member on the containers ahead of you.

As you get close to the second tower, Catalina will take off (small cut scene).

As soon as the cut scene finishes run at full speed (as if you haven't already been running everywhere at top speed) towards that second tower. One cartel member will get into the Barracks army truck and start driving towards you. Others may shoot at you. Dodge around the truck and get up those stairs into the tower, there's another M16 up there and the high vantage point is very useful.

If Catalina's helicopter comes in on a bombing run (dropping incendiary bombs) they won't usually harm you up on the tower.

If you picked up the rocket launcher, fire at Catalina's helicopter from the tower. As soon as you hit the helicopter the timer will stop. Time shouldn't usually be a problem in this mission but if you can get the helicopter from here then you won't have to dodge it (and its incendiary bombs) later.

If you have a missile left in the rocket launcher, put it into that army truck that's being a nuisance at the bottom of the tower. Make sure you have a clear shot at it and don't hit the edge of the tower and kill yourself suicidal.gif

There are now 3 more cartel members on the ground, 1 on the containers, 1 on the edge of the building, 2 guarding Maria (and 1 hiding)

If you didn't get the rocket launcher or if you used them all up shooting down the helicopter (or trying to) then you'll have to use a few rounds from the M16 to deal with that army truck.

If you have anything left in the M16, shoot the 3 cartel members on the ground, then go for the one on the containers. The one on the edge of the building is probably just out of range with the M16 from here.

Come down from the tower. If the helicopter is still around the timer will still be running so you must act as fast as you can. The helicopter will also be trying to bomb you. So keep moving.

Wherever possible, pick up the weapons that the cartel member members drop. You can bring down a helicopter with an M16 or even with an AK 47, but it takes a lot of rounds. Probably more than you have available.

Make your way towards the big building at the end of the dam. Shoot the cartel members as you see them and as you come into range. Creep up the steps and take out the two guarding Maria. Try not to shoot her - that wouldn't be a good move at this point confused.gif

Watch out for the other cartel member hiding behind the structure on the roof of the big building. Take him out.

If you haven't got that helicopter yet, run to the other end of the roof and pick up the rocket launcher. Shoot down that treacherous b *tch rampage_ani.gif

Run towards Maria, she runs into your arms inlove.gif

And that's it, easy really sneaky2.gif

Even better is just stop by your safehouse in Wichita Gardens and get all the weapons you have collected from hidden packages and also the armor. The road just by your safehouse has a little drop off to a road below.Just drive off the road by your safehouse to the road below drive uphill on that road to the dam.You will have full armor and also full group of weapons.Makes it a lot easier and even going by your safehouse you still have plenty of time to complete the mission.

That's "the easy way". I was explaining how to do it "the hard way" smile.gif

With the full set of weapons that you probably have by that time, picking them up from the safe house makes it almost too easy.

The weapons you pick up will probably include the sniper rifle so you won't be limited to the 5 rounds in the sniper rifle you get on the dam road. You can snipe all the cartel members long before they can do you any damage. They will probably also include the M16 and the rocket launcher which makes it easy to deal with anyone that you don't snipe

Yes, "the Exchange" is the last storyline mission, but there are several "side" missions to do that contribute to 100%-like the "R3" missons(Paramedic, Police, Firefighter, Taxi), Oddroad missions, a mission at the car park in Stauntan-the name slips my memory at the moment, 100 Hidden Packages, 36 Rampages, etc.

Gta III is the easiest to get 100% in, as there is not much to do like there is in VC, SA LCS, VCS, and IV. Demerest set the record for the fastest 100% completion of III-he did it in only 7 hours, without cheats, so that has to mean it is easier than the rest of the games.

But as far as completing the last mission goes, I usually go by the Shoreside Vale save house and collect all the weapons outside, since I usually have all 100 packages by that point, then make a quick dash for the Dam and use a combo of weapons to wipe out the Columbians and eventually take out the chopper with the Rocket launcher, and since you get more ammo with the save house pick ups, plus you have a armor spawn there and a health pick-up also-providing you did paramedic, it is a one stop shop. Hope this helps.

ScratchCard

If you saved Ray's bulletproof Patriot, drive that to Catalina's mansion. Then, once you lose all your guns, grab the pistol and then quickly run to your Patriot and follow Catalina. When you reach the Dam with the armed Colombians, just drive to the end - they can't hit you. Then just kill the few Colombians on the top thing (where you shoot Catalina's chopper from) and well.. shoot Catalina's chopper with the RPG.

That's how I did that mission on PS2, when I recently got 100%. I have everything done except the Rhino being delivered to the emergency crane (waiting for Phil's one being available) and the mission was way easier with all the weapon pickups at home.

Also there's 20 rampages in III not 36.
