mrgypsie
Hi, as many other people I've been having alot of trouble with GTA IV, even though my game is legit. I fixed the loading screen hang-up by starting the game thru the benchmark test and the constant lag by running the game in windowed mode. But the only remaining problem is that my audio drops out. First car sounds, radio and in-game(not cutscene) conversations disappear. And sometimes sounds like a carhorn can hang-up at a specific spot or in a specific car. And sometimes all audio except some background noise and sound disappear. It's not such a common problem as the other problems but it's not only me that have had the problem. My motherboard(Asus M2N-SLi deluxe) built-in soundcard runs soundmax and I have the latest driver for Windows XP, but I tried to reinstall it but nothing good came out of it. Any ideas how I can fix this? I still can play the game but the experience is not as good.

Gangxxter
Have you tried it without benchmark? Believe me, it's the cause of your problem. Even Rockstar Toronto confirmed this bug a while ago. They recommend to restart the game after running the benchmark tool.

Check to make sure you are not using the Asus utility that will dynamically alter the CPU clock speed (or anything similar) like AI Gear or AI Nap. Some systems have this set by default so you may have to do some digging to turn it off. Once the CPU clock is running normally you should be able to load the game normally and your audio issues will be solved. The issue with audio dropouts after running a benchmark were fixed in patch 1.0.3.0. Edited April 9, 2009 by Rockstar Toronto

I'm not at my computer right now but I know I have this AMD optimizer installed that fixes a problem with my AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3,0GHz). Could it cause the audio dropout? The problem is that before I installed this so called "AMD optimizer"-thingy game play went in like 10 times the normal speed. Anyways I will look into Asus utility thingy. hoolio22g
I have an asus P5Q-pro mobo and it came with the mobo software. So as far as I know you would have had to install it yourself, maybe try searching for it on your HDD.
