What is Socom: Confrontation?

SOCOM: Confrontation is an online multiplayer third-person tactical shooter based on some of the worlds best Special Forces such as the US: Navy SEALs, British Special Air Service, German KSK, Spanish UOE and French PRIMa. The game was developed by Slant Six Games and published by Sony. It is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. You can buy the game with the official Sony headset (which is recommended as team work and communication is heavily relied on during game play) or you can buy just the game (without the headset) which is obviously cheaper. The game has no single player campaign or story mode, it is online only.

Game play:

You start off by customizing your characters (both the mercenary and commando) by altering their face, head gear (hats, communication devices, other devices), body and armor and of course weapons. Weapons come with a huge array of attachments such as sound suppressers, scopes, lasers and sights - and you can have up-to two attachments at once. You can also join clans and also create your own. When creating a clan, you'll be asked which Special Forces you're going to base it on. Depending on which Special Forces you pick, each come with unique character items such as camouflage, hats, ect. So for example, if I picked British Special Air Service, British camouflage and various SAS headgear will be unlocked.

There are several gamemodes and maps you can play. Each map has two variations, a regular size, where roads and areas are cordoned off and have boundaries, and there is a large size where the whole map is unlocked. There are around 6 maps (excluding variations) and there are 7 different gamemodes to play. Each game is separated into two teams, mercenaries and commandos.

Game modes:

Extraction

The mercenaries have possession of three hostages which the Commando’s must go rescue.

Elimination

A straight up team deathmatch without respawning

Suppression

A variation of Elimination, however respawning is enabled.

Breach

The Commando’s must use explosives to destroy a target belonging to the mercenaries.

Control

Just like “Capture the flag”, but without the flags. There are three points to capture.

Escort

The Commando’s task is to escort three VIP’s to the extraction zone.

Demolition

There is a bomb in the central part of the area. Each team is tasked with recovering the explosives and destroying a target of interest.

The max player limit on servers is 32.

Weapons:

There are several weapon classes to choose from. Primary weapons include assault rifles, shotguns, sniper-rifles, sub-machine guns and machine guns. Secondary weapons include handguns (Which can be also equipped with attachments such as lasers). The gear section includes items such as grenades, flash bangs, C4, claymores and RPG’s. You can hold two gear items at once.

Ratings:

Please note that the game had a bad start due to laggy servers and frequent bugs, so when the game was first released it got a whole load of bad reviews. Since then, several patches have been released which have minimized lag and bugs. I, myself, have never had a problem with this game; I must be one of the lucky ones.

Here are a few reasons why this is not a good idea:

1: SOCOM was always meant for mostly Teamwork, stealth, controlled shots, at long range. This is CQB only.

2: Online only. -The games were designed for singleplayer and online though fun, never worked the way it should have, with people spamming M60's and strafing and jumping around.

3: I dont have a ps3.

I loved the first games, except SOCOM 3, they made that sh*te despite a few cool new additions.

Socom 1 was the ultimate classic, Socom 2 was probably my favorite as levels were more varied and you got sas and spetsnaz with you, and had double the ammount of weapons, though lacked the solidness of the first game. Still both own.

Dunno about this. All the Videos I watched looked ok but it doesnt seem to be the tactical battle we deserve.

This should be my ideal game, but I just dont know.

SOCOM: Confrontation has a few maps where there's hardly any CQB. Urban Wasteland, and that huge desert map with the greek looking ruins on it, for example.
