TV Boxsets

Rather then a thread on one series, I figure one open to your favorite TV series, all box sets available and new ones announced.

I've been watching Miami Vice as mentioned a few times, Still going now. I'm on Season Three, and then I have to start buying them again.

I want to add one thing that's a bug in the bonnet... The continuity is thrown in the air with the third episode. Besides the Cadillac's license plate disappearing and re-appearing in ONE scene (chase), the boys return in their Ferrari Spyder, which was demolished by gun runner Jeff Fahey in the season opener.

The boys get their white Ferrari Testarossa in the next one! Then it's back to the Spyder.

One of the things I appreciated was episode synopsis in the meny system as well as packaging, in these, you could see at a glance who the guest stars are and what films they credit them from (not very exhaustive, but I appreciate these as well)

I still plan or hope to get Magnum PI and others, which I'm sure will mentioned later.

Magnum PI is the official sh*t. I loved that show, made me grow a moustache too once.

What about Good Times slamman? I'm sure you've seen it, I loved that show.

Good Times with JJ Walker.. Kid DynoMite?? haha I watched Different Strokes and Silver Spoons while growing up, my siblings and family loved The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie.

I'm reminded of the one with the guy who's accused of something and hides out with a new life in the mountains, there's a grizzly bear and an old trapper and indian as well... Grizzly Adams? I believe, man, what a trip! haha

Of course, Dukes of Hazard. The comic series SOAP!

As I watch these now, I realize most of the tough issues musta went over my head, now with life experience it's interesting to revisit them again.

Yeah, over time you learn to appreciate the different kinds of comedy and 'lessons' that's in it.

Kid Dynomite is funny regardless tounge.gif

With a show like Magnum PI, it couldn't equate to movies, being TV, so like MASH, it built up on characters you truly enjoyed watching, most were perfectly cast, like Cheers.

Mash was fun until Alan Alda started directing. He went all emo and really sucked the funny out of the show.

I love TV boxsets. Especially as you can get a whole series nowadays for the price of a movie!

Having said that, I just ordered The Wire series 1-5 after seeing two episodes. tounge.gif

It was a fair bit more expensive. £90, but got it for £81 with student discount.

As I mentioned in the 24 topic a while back, I saw this season's premiere, and had to pick up a DVD set. I got season (or Day) one and I really enjoyed it. Was like a 24 hour long movie. I've yet to watch day two, but will probably pick it up this month.

Others I have:

Band of Brothers. Best mini series of all time in my opinion.

Ren & Stimpy Seasons one and Two, and season three and a half. The first two seasons are classics, and the commentaries on both sets really tell the story of how this show went from genius to nonsense. I'm semi interested in picking up the rest of the series, but probably wont.

Clerks the Animated Series. It's a great. I get sad thinking of what might have been if this show was released a few years later on Fox or Adult Swim.

Seinfeld. A must have. I really enjoy having great episodes such as "the Puffy Shirt" and "the Contest" at my disposal to watch whenever I want.

I have every boxset of The Sopranos Series 1-6 and The Wire 1-5. Best TV shows ever, worth every penny.

I might get the entire Miami Vice sooner or later. It isn't on TV enough. I've also formed quite a liking to the original Charlies Angels TV show, even though it is a bit sh*t tounge.gif

Band of Brothers.  Best mini series of all time in my opinion.

^This. I re-bought it on bluray since someone stole the DVD set I bought when it was first available.

All of the original Battlestar Galactica, season four of the new Battlestar Galactica, season six of Star Trek TNG, season five of The West Wing, seasons one two and three of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (shut up), seasons one two and eight of Stargate SG-1, season one of South Park, three "volumes" of Family Guy which is season one two three and what I assume is season four, and season one of Chuck.

I'm planning to buy the three other volumes of Family Guy, and season 2 of Chuck as soon as it's released.

Also, Magnum is awesome, if I saw it I'd buy it, but Tom Selleck is awesome in his own right.

I think My Name Is Earl is great fun...but I hear NBC are thinking about ending it...

Watched three episodes of The Wire then went out and got it on DVD. So far I have not regretted that decision. Also got The Sopranos Series 1-6, never watched it till I got the DVDs, luckily it was worth every penny. I watched 2 episodes of 30 Rock and ended up buying Series 1 and 2 on DVD, currently awaiting Series 3.

Mash was fun until Alan Alda started directing. He went all emo and really sucked the funny out of the show.

I liked the last three seasons. Added a bit of serious to the show. The show needed serious, since it was serious-funny for the past four seasons. Those seasons blew. I think the first three and the last three seasons are the best, because seasons 1-3 was all about the funny, and 9-11 was all about the serious. With a few bits of funny inbetween.

And I have the first two seasons of Magnum. icon14.gif

I don't watch TV anymore. I spend my time playing games and writing guides for them for GameFAQs.

With that said, I do have all eight Red Dwarf series on DVD and can't wait for BBC to release the new "Red Dwarf: Back to Earth" mini-series in the near future.

Wanted a new HBO series so I got all the Deadwood DVDs. Got to the start of series 2 and sh*t started to get a bit dull. Don't get me wrong, series 1 was ace but it doesn't have the constant awesomeness that The Wire and The Sopranos has. Haven;t touched them in months but I'm thinking I should get round to it or it'lla just been £30 down the sh*tter.

Was thinking; buying comedy show DVDs is pretty redundant since they're on TV- on repeat most of the time- all year round but I may end up getting the Two and a Half Men boxsets. That show is so well written (to the point that it almost seems too fake) and Charlie Sheen is a leeegend.

I' d been trying to really take my time with the Hart To Hart box set because it's only one season, and I'm sure they went beyond one season in reality, but as I watch it again, I can see the magic that makes up a good show, this one is good for all ages, and it's hardly aged at all!

1980, WOW!

Also working onto disc three of Season Three, Miami Vice... Helena Bonham Carter is a love interest to Sonny in this one, and it's again very interesting to compare here character here to that in Fight Club, the David Fincher film!

One of the fun aspects is all the cameos and visiting character actors (spawned my other thread on that), of yesteryear.

SOAP is a classic late 70s/80s comedy everyone should at least preview, a very young Billy Crystal on that one!

Soap actually spawned the show "Benson", with character actor James Noble, the show was a personal favorite as well.

I started watching Desperate Housewives when it premiered, my mom was hooked on it, I started missing shows and stopped watching, so the DVDs will help fill in that area, but they are also being shown in syndicated repeats. LOST is also re-broadcasting earlier shows, within the series, I saw a clip early on as they were looking around after the crash, it seemed much more interesting with the crash on a deserted island premise but soon got too odd and confusing to just drop into and watch without reference of earlier plot.

Why not? It's created by Marc Cherry, the man behind Golden Girls, which was actually funny.

The premise sounded like it might be some near-taboo stuff for TV, it was meant to titillate from the billboard ad campaign
