Slamman
I don't know if this idea will fly, but the topics aren't fast and furious around here...if you have to pick one musician, let's say, for mention in a particular catagory, in this instance drummer (I'll let runner ups be mentioned, but keep it to probably no more then three!) I'm saying this based on some general concensus as well as shared opinion. John Bonham runners up: Peter Criss, Chris Slade, Neil Peart Honorable mention has to said for Alex Van Halen <G>
Scarface187
Its obviously Neil Peart here are some other favorites of mine who I think deserve mentions: Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) Chris Pennie (Dillinger Escape Plan/Coheed and Cambria) Dave Turncratz (Russian Circles) Blake Richardson (Between the Buried and Me) Richard Christy (Iced Earth/Death) Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad) Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) Gartdrumm (3) Edited April 8, 2009 by Scarface187

mrpain
I always thought Travis Barker was one of the best drummers out there but there are some greater than him out there
Drag_Drift
I always thought Travis Barker was one of the best drummers out there but there are some greater than him out there IMO Travis Barker could be good, but he does sh*tty remixes. I remember he remixed that T-Pain song, Low. It was catchy at first, but at the middle of the song the listener would be fed up of the drums because he's just continually pounding the 'hats. If there were some innovation in the way he re-did the beat it could've been great.
Mister Pink
John Bonham is one of the most influential and innovative for his time. Zeppelin influenced so many rock bands that it's no suprise he is so influential. Fido De La Parra of Canned Heat is really f*cking great for his time too. Vanilla Shake
Being as I am a fan, I can say this... Nick Mason would scoff at the idea. Have you read his book?? If not, why are you waiting??? I'm a bit busy focusing on college and some more important sh*t, so I don't have time to read his book. I don't care how he feels about it or whatever the hell it is you're getting at, I think he's one of the best drummers. That's just my opinion whether he or you like it or not. Slamman
Dude, don't write off Mason's excellent book, I'm not taking a dig at you, I'm just saying his book is a MUST for any PF fan, and you better have a look at it. Mason says with self-depricating humor that it's a miracle he made his living with Floyd, he does not consider himself in the class of superstar musician, but more that his success and longevity is a quirk. As an aside, I put Peter Criss down based soley on KISS ALIVE! The major drum solo in that live recording is so mind blowing, it warrants EVERYONE's attention. Zyo
Igor Cavalera. Some of the drumming he did with Sepultura was amazing. The early stuff is brutal and intense but still brilliantly technical. he began developing more rythmic and tribal styles in the 1990s that peaked with "Roots" in 1996 which is nothing short of a percussive masterpiece. He deserves a mention here. "Territory" from Chaos AD is a good showcase of his skills, not to mention the entire Roots record. Slamman
Man, I ain’t believing that sh*t about Bonham’s one hour drum solo, man. I mean one hour of drums, you couldn’t handle that sh*t on strong acid, man. Check 'ya later! Rush's Neil Peart has a DVD out Anatomy of a drum solo, his one on display within the package is rather lengthy. But, on KISS Alive, Peter Criss got my vote for his very nice one with a flanger effect, which was rather new to my ears at the time, but lifted the energy of the performance for sure. It gave that feeling of being there in the crowd! Kudos to Rick Allen, he overcame just about all odds, he had to play again!! Also, forgot Dave Lombardo of SLAYER fame, which is NOT good. Rhoda
While I don't consider them "the world's best", I'm a massive fan of both Dave Grohl and Lars Ulrich when it comes to their sheer tenacity. Despite their ages (38 and 45 respectively I believe) they can still give it some crack like leather on willow. I was fortunate to see both Grohl and Ulrich drumming live (at different shows of course) and I have to say it was relentless. I was beyond impressed, so I'm going to vouch for those. nabo45
Keith Moon. He was very innovative, and he has influenced a lot of drummers. He was also one of the first drummers to use the double bass drum.
