GTA London

To me, London seems like the next logical step for the Grand Theft Auto series. It is the only location from the 2D generation to have not been remade in 3D. Not only that, but it can provide a interesting and gritty setting for Grand Theft Auto. Everything you need for a good GTA can be found in London!

Gangs Of London
user posted image
Several criminal organizations call London home. There are several gangs we have seen before in previous Grand Theft Auto games, as well as some that are unique to the streets of London! Below are several examples of possible gangs you could expect to see in a London-based Grand Theft Auto

Major Gangs

East End Firm
Once the most powerful and well-respected gang within London, The East End Firm has since dwindled in power due to the influx of ethnic gangs. They do not resort to petty crime, choosing instead to stick to such "high-class" criminal acts as armed robbery, theft, race fixing and other such crimes. Their members are large, strong characters who were mostly trained as amateur boxers in their youth. Not people to be messed with.
Russian Mafia
The most powerful gang inside London. Recent years have seen an influx in Eastern-European immigrants to the city, bringing with them a rise in Eastern-European crime. The Russian Mafia is the largest of these groups; operating in all fields of the criminal world. Their main areas, however, are the illegal gun running, pornography and sex trade businesses.
Yardies
Violent and ruthless, The Yardies are made up of first-generation and second-generation Jamaican Immigrants. They are responsible for the flow of marijuana, cocaine and crack cocaine into London which they sell unto African-American Street Gangs as well as through their own dealers. Yardies will not hesitate to attack, often with complete disregard of the law or safety of those around them. They are armed with small-arms (pistols and sub-machine guns) imported illegally from the West Indies.
Triads
A secretive organization dating back hundreds of years. The Triads run the counterfeiting trade in London as well as the influx of illegal workers. They are a cool and calculated gang and will often restrain from direct confrontation. They prefer to play the political angle, pitting gangs against each other for their own gain.

Turkish Mafia
The Turkish Mafia are as ruthless as The Yardies, but twice as organized. They control the heavy narcotics ring in London, filling the streets with ecstasy, heroin, meth and other drugs. Their members can be found dressed in designer clothes and suped up hatchbacks.
Minor Gangs

African-American Street Gangs
Basing themselves on the American street gangs like Bloods and Crips, the African-American Street Gangs dabble in robbery, car theft, mugging, knifing and drug dealing. They get most of their merchandise from The Yardies who supply them with both narcotics and firearms. There are several gangs within London, who often fight amongst eachother, as well as their mutual enemies.

South Asian Street Gangs
There is a lot of conflict between the various South Asian Street Gangs in London. The majority of this confrontation is based on ethnic and religious background with groups from one religion attacking those of the other. They do not dabble in drugs, as it is forbidden by their strict religions; their main business interests are petty theft and carjackings. The South Asian Street Gangs often fight with the African-American Street Gangs over racial and territorial boundaries.
Football Hooligans
Loyal supporters of their local team these lot can often be found near their team's respective grounds on match day or working as hired muscle for The East End Firm. They can be seen in their team's colours and often sport shaven heads and bomber jackets. They are prone to violence amongst each other and anyone else who gets in there way.
I will add more later, as it's getting on 3AM in rainy ol' England and I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. Edited by Jacky Fiend

Nice post so far mate, a nice break from all the Vice City 2 speculation.

I've been hoping for London since GTA3 came out, USA was great but London can match it for gang warfare, as you've proven.

London > Vice City. This sounds awesome. Oh and btw, there's a PSP game called Gangs of London, and your picture under the Gangs of London is the game's artwork.

why cant the African-American gang just be brittish-american? there are black people in britain to you know. or did you mean that they actually are americans, and that they where born in the us and then moved to london? but that would not really make any sense, either way just because you are black and live in britain does not make you african-american.

He's not saying they are African American, rather just based on those types of gangs, eg Bloods and Cryps/ Grove Street and Ballas.

Looks good Jacky, don't know if you remember the topic Medallion Man did for London way back when, I'll try and dig it out for you to see wink.gif

Personally I'd prefer GTA to stick to the US rather than cross the pond, just can't see it being the same.

Edit: here we are wink.gif

There wasn't a large number of African slaves arriving in Britain around that sort of time. Most of them went to the Americas or Caribbean. Those of them who returned retained their American/Caribbean heritage; while some of them traveled to England instead. I forgot to mention, but there is actually inner-gang wars between the black street gangs based on whether they're American or Caribbean in origin.

I know, and I'm not trying to cause some sort of ethnic war, it's just an easier word to use than: "African Immigrants" since they're not really immigrants anymore. I did not mean to cause offense.

yeah i get you but you can't call the african immigrants african-americans since they are not, the only ones that are african-americans are black people living in the usa. I mean you wouldn't call Ian Wright or Paul Ince african-americans right?

to go on topic, id def like to see a gta game set in london. and it would work very well. london has got alot more crime and grittyness than people think. the americans probably wouldn't buy the game though, because they are all a bunch of brit-hating c*nts but I think it should be done anyway.

Looks awesome man... looks like the "African-American" word is causing debate again tho. Just curious, what do you say in the UK for people of African decent? Do you just say black? Or is there a more politically correct word? As I mentioned in another post where we talked about this in the states you can really say either. Maybe like 5% of people will whine if you use the word "black" and the other 95% will laugh and roll their eyes at you and tell you to say "black" if you say "african-american." In the end government documents and what not always say "African-American," but most people just say "black."

It's strange, in England "black" seems to be the most politically correct word there is. On government papers and application forms, under the section "Ethnicity" there are usually three options for blacks: Black African, Black Caribbean or Black Other.

Yeah like I said I wouldn't call it politically incorrect here (in my mind 'African-American' is almost overly PC)... but there are like a few people that will complain about it. A lot of times in the news and stuff they just say black, and almost everyone I know of African decent just say black.

Cool idea but what about the soundtrack?

There would be a large variety of radio stations to choose from, each one corresponding to one of London's many ethnic minorities:

  • There would be an Reggae/Dancehall station for the Afro-Caribbeans and Yardies
  • Various hip-hop stations for the Black Street Gangs, as well as an UK Garage & Grime station
  • A station dedicated to Eastern-European music (think Vladistock FM, from GTA IV) for the Russians
  • Classic British Rock station for The East End Firm
  • South Asian stations for the Street Gangs and Turkish Mafia
  • Punk Rock station
Those are just a few examples of the stations I hope to include.

People usually just say white. As far as like "official" sh*t goes it will say "white/caucasian." Then you have people (including myself to an extent) that might be more ethnic and identify more with a term like "Irish-American" or "Italian-American," in the attempt to distance ourselves from the WASPs, but I guess that's more heredity or ethnicity than race... and I wouldn't be like "I'm not white, I'm Italian-American!" But for example if you asked me like, "What are you?" I would probably say Italian-American, just because that's what I personally identify more with. Of course if you asked specifically what is my race I would say white. America's weird as almost everyone is descended from immigrants... the Native Americans were called "Indians" for so long and practically exterminated... most people of African descent were once slaves... even the non-WASP europeans that only started coming here in great numbers in the past 100 years were persecuted when they first arrived... East Asian people in general are constantly referred to as "Chinese," same for Latinos with "Mexican," or South/Southwest Asians with "Arab/Muslim/Terrorist." Point is that this type of thing can be touchy and require retarded amounts of PCness in the United States.

dude... French rap is soooo bad... imo anyways lol. I do like the Russian stuff they had in IV though, that was pretty cool. Someone mentioned Grime (UK Hip-Hop) which I love but it's relatively unknown stateside. I mean I've heard people call the Streets, Dizzy Rascal, and Lady Sovereign grime, all of whom have followings stateside... but I don't feel like it's quite the same as guys like Wiley and the Roll Deep Crew, Bruza, Lethal Bizzle, Tinchy Stryder, Crazy Titch... Dizzy Rascal is probably the closest, but I feel like he's more like artsy/indie than these guys. The rhymes often suck, the topics are stupid... but it's got a fun and different sound. A bit like dancehall... but well, grimey. Still all of the previously mentioned artist are fun and uniquely British hip-hop that I would love to listen to while playing GTA London.

Ever since seeing Eastern Promises I thought a London GTA with GTA4 engine would be damn awesome. Dumping bodies in the Thames etc. They should do this and get Jason Statham to voice the main guy! happy.gif

Nice layout of GTA: London. Would be good to see the cricket bat being used as a weapon. biggrin.gif

With the soundtrack, the Poms have radio stations that broadcasts 'audio novels' and 'live theatre' like stuff if you know what I mean. Similar to what the BBQ broadcast. Interesting to see if that happens.

P.S. I'm a huge fan of Little Britain. Saw them live when they came to Australia. Hilarious stuff.
