Alright, so I've been floating around these forums for some time. I've seen a lot of posts like this but generally people had something better than an 8800 superduperawesome overclocked video card.

I don't like being the bad news guy any more than I liked receiving this kind of bad news when I was a novice PC user but here goes..

First I have to ask WHEN did you pay 2500 for that machine? If you built it for that price then you've had it for quite some time. If you bought it over the counter I should recommend that you build your own in the future.

Another thing.. having 2 cores at, for example, 3Ghz does NOT mean you have a 6Ghz machine. You have two processors running at 3Ghz. Some applications utilize these two cores, most do not.

The game lags for most of us. If you get it 25 FPS average you should settle for that.

your computer is sh*t. it is not up to date, your running a dual core when this game requires ATLEAST a quad core, even I have a better computer than you and I am running at 30 FPS. Your computer would cost atleast 500$ - 800$ now. So shut the f*ck up and stop complaining, your 8800 is out of date and a dual core is NOT 6.4Ghz, it is 2 1.6 processors running together making hyper threading & multitasking easier. I am amazed you can play at medium settings while my intel e6550 & 9800GTX+ can barely handle it.

Some of us are civil about it at least.

Whoops, Nemesi5 is right about the dual core clock speed.

AMD Dual Core 64 @ 3.2 GHz (6.4 GHz for you math impaired people...)

No, each core is 3.2 GHZ seperately. You don't get 6.4 GHZ of CPU power when you use them both at the same time.

... this game requires ATLEAST a quad core ...

Wrong. I have a dual core an the game runs fine with textures on medium, distances about 25, everything else on high.

Having a Quad Core or i7 means a BIG improvement over the dual core, but that doesnt mean the game requires at least a quad core.

However, that computer, even though it is not that bad, it wasnt worth 2,500$ even back in 2007 i think sarcasm.gif

I think we are just getting used to the requirements of this game, but it not only requieres a damn fast computer to play it on high setting, it just doesn't scale properly on older computers and the stuttering makes it even worse. Back in November i was expecting to play the game all medium setting with a 320mb 8800GTS, and i still think game game needs some serious optimization. it is just not right, and the overwhelming quantity of people complaining about the low performance proves it.

That's not a supercomputer. By today's standards, that's a casual gaming computer.

And you don't add the clock speeds by the number of cores, you clot.

Thats hardly a super computer, maybe a few years ago. I agree with nemsi5 totally. You need to get your facts straight before you post crap like that, you clearly have an impaired understanding of computer components!

Thats funny biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif . Sorry dude but using price to judge your PC power is just silly.

If that was the case, my computer as a whole, in a price to power ratio, would render it worthy of NASA.

You are right when you said....its pathetic biggrin.gif , I am not talking about the game.

Supercomputer? mercie_blink.gif

Overpriced and oversized calculator. biggrin.gif

Only poking a little fun at you cause you came on all strong insisting you had a Supercomputer and GTA sucks because you cant run it so well.

Yes, I know there may be topics like this, but the search function REALLY needs to be revised. It brings up the same threads NO MATTER WHAT you type in the search. And they're all nothing to do with what you searched. /rant off

Anywho, my computer runs at about $2,500 and it can run ANY game that you throw at it like it's nothing.

But while my PS3 can run GTA IV like it's nothing, this computer freaks out and throws a panic attack while putting on a gas mask to stay alive. AT MEDIUM SETTINGS.

It's pathetic. Here's the specs:

AMD Dual Core 64 @ 3.2 GHz (6.4 GHz for you math impaired people...)

GeForce 8800 Superclocked (Max Potential settings with a sh*tload of heat. Lots of fans to keep cool!!)

3GB Ram

Windows Vista Home 32x

I hope you guys can help me! smile.gif

Sorry but 3.2ghz dual core does not equal a 6.4ghz processor, this has been explained before, and it took me a good 15 minutes to type out the explanation for people to understand, anyway.....

The short version, and you will have to take my word for it is that you have a single 3.2ghz CPU that is capable of processing twice the information, we could argue that this means its the same as a 6.4 but again, just take my word for it, it still has to all end up in the same place, squeeze through the same pipes and whatnot, the point is, a dual core can CALCULATE twice as much, NOT twice as fast.

An 8800 even suyperclocked is not going to be as fast as a GTX card, I dont care how much its been overclocked, that much heat also causes issues when running a graphically intense game, such as hitches and lag where there shouldn't be.

The ram and OS seem perfectly fine though, no comment needed there.

Why did you pay 2500 for that? It is NOT a super computer, far from it.

I just bought a 2.67ghz QUAD core, 9800gt and 4gb of 800mhz DDR2 ram with all the extra trimmings for $1600. (I then slapped in a $300 sound card but thats not a necessary component for gaming)

Would of cost me around 600 - 800 if I didnt have to buy all the components, but since my older pc was still on DDR1 I figured it was time for a whole new rig.

I'm not bragging here, but my point is that why did you buy a computer with such specs for THAT much? How long ago was it that you purchased it?

Just a note for future purchases, Don't buy these "superclocked" versions of cards for twice the price of the original, you would be MUCH better off buying a higher end lower clocked component such as a GTX card, the clock speeds MIGHT be lower, but they have more than double the shaders pipes and other components.

Ok, personal curiosoty aside, I suggest lowering some settings, Perhaps telling us what your original settings were at and what fraps reads your FPS as. smile.gif

Also just so you know, the PS3 equivalent settings are rather low compared to the PC, so expecting to run the game on Maximum flawlessly is just not going to happen with your current rig.

Supercomputer?

That thing is just as good as a drug store cash register.

L-o-L! It aint sh*t. Years old. Out of date

Haha.

Dual core? GTA4? You must be kidding.

But wait, it gets better. AMD dual core?

lol.gif

I'm not going to pretend like your PC is complete crap like most people in this thread.

But, it's not the best gaming PC ever, especially not so good for GTA4. There's a big difference between, say, the 8800GS and 8800Ultra, so...

6.4 Ghz?! lol.gif

I guess I consider myself lucky I can run it on medium with steady 30fps. C2D 2.4, 2 gigs ram, 8800GTS 640.

But I paid about $1200 for it 2.5 years ago...

It's antique.

AMD Dual Core 64 @ 3.2 GHz (6.4 GHz for you math impaired people...)

Dual core @ low frequency (some here have quads at 4GHz). GTFO.

GeForce 8800 Superclocked (Max Potential settings with a sh*tload of heat. Lots of fans to keep cool!!)

Again, people here have the GTX280 which is also OC'd to teh max.

3GB Ram

Aint that a little normal? Some people have 6GB. I am using a f*cking outdated Pentium 4 with 2GB. So if you have like twice the power, go get sum moar RAM.

Windows Vista Home 32x

Get 6GB and make your Vista x64

What all the above posters said +

Play the game on 800x600 windowed, lowest settings. Work your way up. This is what you get when you call something like your machine a supercomputer.

Oh, and my friend has a 16GHZ processor then, because he has an i7 920 @ 4 GHz /sarcasm.

I bought my computer about 3.5 years ago...

specs:(I'M NOT SAYING THIS A SUPER COMPUTER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!)

Pentium D 3.00GHz(Yep lame!)

Asus HD4870 1GB GDDR5(The original name is long...something with darknight...anyway nice GPU no?I upgraded this from the 8600GT I had...)

3GB ddr2 800

My CPU idles at 60 Celsius and under load is around the 80...(3.5 years ago!!!)

and I play on 15 view distance low textures(I really don't care about the textures)all GPU setting maxed out...playing 15-25 when heavy action...30-40 normal...And I having fun with a crappy computer so don't cry this game is nubby and UN OPTIMIZED...(I'm on 1.0.3.0 patch)...Because look!Even I can play it!

GTA needs more VRAM if anything to run smoothly. In other words, A video card with around 1Gb of memory.

Anyways your computer is kinda old and outdated to say the least. No longer a supercomputer mate sorry. A Core i7 965/975 w/ GTX 295 in Quad SLI or 3 285's in 3-Way SLI, 12Gb of DDR3 Triple Channel RAM would be considered a Supercomputer for gamers.

6.4Ghz? You know nothing of computers child. Go back to school.

Maybe a lock is in order, before it gets outta control.
