Wireless net lag spike

SOLUTION:

So all you have to do is run your setup in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode and then install your driver (this will basically force Vista to install the XP drivers) After that just use Vista Anti Lag and it should be working.

So I have wireless net and I'm using Vista, so in every 60 second I have lag spikes (it's a 1 or 2 second huge ping increase which stops the gameplay. Ping can go upto 2000 ms) during online play. No lag spikes when I'm using the web, only when I'm playing online. So this thing just f*cks my gaming experience (driving my chopper *lag spike* chopper crashed and I go WTF?) I tried using Vista Anti Lag program which should disable vista's search for a new net in every 60 second (this generates the lag spike), but it didn't help me. There are some guys where it works and there are some where it doesn't... So please gtaforums help me, cuz I can't play online with this irritating lag cryani.gif

(no it's not my computer, believe me it's my wireless net and I'm 100% sure)

EDIT: oops sorry for posting in wrong section blush.gif

I don't have Vista or online, but don't you need to give more information then you have?

If you believe it not to be Vista, for one thing. (computer??)

Does it happen when you not playing the same game(s) online?

Completely disable the wifi card and connect using ethernet and see what happens.

I did a Google search to the problem and it seems M$ with Vista in their less than infinite wisdom has really screwed things up on this. Reading this topic I found it seems people with Ralink chipset, found in many wifi cards, are uninstalling the Vista drivers and going with the XP drivers then using VAL and it seems to work.

I also found this: http://www.overclock.net/windows/294052-vi...0sec-fixed.html

Granted he goes on to use VAL as his fix but use the below as a temp fix.

1- Start menu type" Services " Hit enter

2- Look for WLAN Auto Config

3- Right click, and properties

4- Change the startup type to "Disable"

5- Restart you system

The Bad Thing:-

you won't be able to see other networks

But in this case I would think you only need to be able to see the one you want, or even manually connect to it.

I wouldn't surprised if there was a way to get this turned on and off with a bat file...just don't as me how.

So I have Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter WMP54-G model and there's only 1 driver for it. There's no driver for XP or Vista. (I think it's simply compatible with every system) Yes I've heard this method as well, but I can't do it :\

If I disable WLAN autoconfig in services than my net will be disconnected. Many people wrote that we can't do this without disabling the net (which is not our current goal biggrin.gif)

I tried changing it to manually but didn't help. I tried to uncheck the box which states that Vista will be connected to the more preffered internet connection. Well I can say it didn't help.

I can't connect using ethernet cable (this is the main reason I have wireless), my room doesn't have a wall socket that supports this stuff (hope you understand me blush.gif ) but I'm 100% sure that it'd work.

And I say it's vista's fault because many people have the same problem (while others don't <- That's kinda weird), and I have the same 1 or 2 second lag spike in every 60 sec. The other thing is that I tried to watch my ping on google.com and there was an 1500 ms value (typical lag spike) others are all 60 to 63ms...

I have a Quad Core 2.8 Ghz CPU with GTX 260 GPU card and 4 GB RAM (it just can't be my computer lol. especially when I'm running BF2 which is not a cpu dependent game biggrin.gif)

Ps.: Anyway thanks for all the help so far guys... and sorry for writing this much blush.gifbored.gif

Seems you didn't read the topic I linked. If you had then you'd see that they weren't use Linksys drivers.

http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Windows.html

Also how can your adapter not have drivers for XP or Vista when you're using the adapter on Vista?

Of course there are drivers for on Linksys' website. However what you need to know is what chipset the adapter uses.

What is the model number of the adapter and I can help you find out if the chipset is Ralink then you can try using the drivers from the page above.

As for running ethernet. Ok so your desktop is one room and the modem/router in another. And there's no wall outlet, well you don't need one and most homes doesn't have them anyway unless they are installed by the home owner so it doesn't matter either way.

How far away is the router? How hard would it really be to move just the PC, monitor and keyboard and mouse? If the room that has the modem/router already has a PC in it that uses a monitor, well then all you need to do is move just your PC since everything else will be there already.

Ignoring all everything you think it and don't think it is, trust me on one very important fact about computers; just because you don't think 1 thing is the problem doesn't mean you rule it out. I have seen issues that made me think one thing and no matter what else I did to fix it it still didn't work, then I do the one thing I kept over looking and finally tried just so I can safely say I ruled it out and suddenly it works.

It goes right up there with; just because it's new doesn't mean it ain't broke. I've had 1 perfectly new HDD that the first thing done was a complete scan of it make sure it's good and it failed. Same thing happened with 2 sets of RAM; got one seemed ok then I started seeing problems, test it and it failed but not too badly. RMA'ed it for a 2nd set and tested it right a way and it failed miserably before it was even done with half of the first pass.

So never assume, try everything.

Oh I know it's Vista's fault, because there should be a way to tell it to stop scanning for other networks automatically. It's so obvious that could/would/does cause spikes. But you see Microsoft thinks their OS will be used more of business than for gaming, more the wireless. This is the reason with the original release of XP they had that messenger service enabled when their biggest market, mom and dad, will never use it or even understand what it's for. And I'll stop there before I get caught up in a rant.

Well I've tried installing XP drivers and all I could archive is no internet connection. I wasn't sure if that was the right driver I've downloaded since I typed WMP54-G V4.1 (that's my model) driver, than a site came in with the driver for XP. It said you're downloading WMP54-G V4.1 XP driver and then when I got the file it said it's a WMP55-G. I tried to install that, didn't help. The other weird thing was that I downloaded another file which ought to be Linksys Wireless G PCI adapter (still the WMP54G version) and it downloaded a RaLink sh*t for me.

So I forgot 2 important things out.

1st: I'm sure of lag spikes are caused by internet because in Battlefield 2 when I have a lag spike, a "There's a problem with your connection" error appears in game than after the lag spike is gone it's gone as well.

2nd: My card's model name is: Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter WMP54-G V4.1

Anyway I just quickly scanned (does this even mean anything? XD) through the topic and I saw that some1 was using wmp54-g and this has got to be the 5th topic I saw today, so I can't really concentrate confused.gifblush.gif

EDIT: Oh and I've tried this method as well:

Ok thanks guys for all the help. It looks like I had to run my setup on the CD in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility and then I just have to use Vista Anti Lag. Thanks again cookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gif

I should hope you get support of a disc with the device, if not, you can always request one, or even hunt one down on eBay. I'm saying this because I had no access to an online driver for Creative Tech, and the only source was direct.
