I voted for CPU, both AV are good if you know how to use it. RAM also good unless you want to change to Vista and play games on highest settings.

WTF?! Dude, you got those specs of your PC from the IV benchmark right? Coz I HIGHLY doubt you actually have a PIII Xeon. You have either a Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual Core.

Anyway, a GPU upgrade and some overclocking on the CPU you currently have would be the best option. The 9800GT is a good choice as it's about two times faster than a 9600GT, but it's best to go for something else.

Your RAM is enough for now, 2GB is still more than enough for games.

Also, there is no reason why you need to get a paid antivirus when you can get as good if not better free ones. If you want something better than AVG Free, get Avira AntiVir. It's free and is one of the best antivirus programmes from both the free and paid antivirus programmes.

Give us a budget and where you live and I'll try to get the best possible graphics card for your cash.

Well, I live in Romania (no one knows the flag?) and let's say... 200 lions (RO cash) = $60.

It may seem low, but I know my current GPU was cheap.

Well, with a budget that low, I guess a 9800GT will be the best option. Can you really get it there for $60 wow.gif? Coz that's really cheap.

Anyway, I'd recommend getting a HD4870 over a 9800GT, if you can afford it that is. The cheapest one on Newegg costs $169.99.

The thing with a 9800GT is, even though it's almost twice as fast than a 9600GT, it isn't a big enough upgrade from the 9600GT for the price you pay.

What is this?

Intel Pentium III, Xeon Dual-Core

Is that an E8400?

If so then go for the video card. But a 9600GT to 9800GT is a weak upgrade.

For the AV: Avast free AV

Don't pay for an AV subscription.. There's absolutely no need for one.

I can only assume you have a DDR2 motherboard right now, in which case I would recommend buying more of that. It's hardly gonna get any cheaper than it already is.

For the CPU, either go to http://www.yougamers.com/ or download http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php to find out what you really have, there's no such thing as a dual-core Pentium III Xeon.

I'd go for a graphics card upgrade too, but I don't know how you can get anything better for $60. If anything I'd expect it to be more expensive in Romania.

Ookay, so you have a E5200. I have the same CPU. What's the motherboard you have?

Anyway, you can overclock it to 3.33GHz at stock volts with the stock cooler with absolutely no problems.

Who suggested he pay for his Anti Virus?!? Two people on this board are retarded...

Like jelly said, don't pay for it. You can get just as good, if not superior coverage for free.

I voted CPU. Make sure it's compatible, as I think the others are saying right now.

leik oh em jeez!

If you can OC the CPU you have to that clock, there's not much need for a new one at this point. Go for the graphics card. If all you play is IV, you might want the 1Gb 9800GT over the 512Mb, but I would suggest the 512Mb for any other game. I have a 1Gb 9800GT and I could test IV with that and my brother's 512Mb 9800GT when I get IV, which should be in a few weeks.

I'll post the results when I test them.

CPU - If you can get it to 3.33Ghz, no need for an upgrade right now.

GPU - Would show the most improvement, assuming you can get your CPU up to a decent clock speed.

RAM - Plenty for XP, still enough even for Vista

AV - Just get it for free...

Due to the fact that AVG Free was weekly detecting 200+ viruses in my C:, I needed to install KasperSky Internet Security 2009.

Sorry.

But the poll and topic are still open!

I will be getting something new in the near future, so votes, please!

Thanks for your help so far.

You do realise that you could have just downloaded the antivirus I recommended and get rid of every single one of those viruses...for free, right?

Where did you hear this from?

Avira is probably the best antivirus among the free ones and ones that require pay.

Well, I've never had a virus on my machine in my life and I've used free Avast for years.

Maybe you should reconsider your browsing patterns if you manage to get 200 viruses per week. Either that or your AV suite is an alarmist piece of sh*t designed only to scare you into paying license fees. (yes, that's how they do)

If you havent' already converted to Firefox 3.x with NoScript you definitely should.

I think you should update your CPU, it looks really awful. I think that a 9600 is OK, 2GB of RAM is not the best, but it's good. For anti-virus, since (I BELIEVE) you'll be using it in your house, just download avast! Home Edition. icon14.gif

And if you think avast! and Avira are bad, what the f*ck are you doing with AVG? It's easily one of the worst anti-virus programs out there. It can't find most of the viruses on my PC.

^This.

That said, one of the main reasons Avira AntiVir so good is that it can pick up things that other AV's miss. If you turn the heuristics all the way up you might get some false positives, which is fine if you have the slightest idea what you're doing. If you're using any legitimate AV program and finding 200+ "viruses" (I assume you actually mean viruses/malware/spyware/adware) then you don't have the slightest idea what you're doing, so you might want something a bit more idiot proof. But I honestly don't know of any security software that idiot proof.

Firefox and the NoScript addon is also good advice, though I doubt anyone could get that much crap on their machine without being completely ignorant of security. It doesn't really matter what firewall, AV, or other security software you have if you're going to go around clicking/downloading/installing everything.

Either way, paying money for AV software was a complete waste. confused.gif
