This was my first time using a proper tablet. My Sister is a graphic artist and she lent me her awesome one. This is what I got after a few attempts.

Constructive critism would be nice

Not bad at all, especially for a first try.

 

My advice would be to make the features darker, as you can barely see them and try using more shadows around the nose and under the mouth.

I am hopefully going to get a tablet myself soon (Citiq 21UX) and so I can continue to work on this and many other pictures. It does take some time to get used to when you come of a paper medium but luckly I have been using photoshop for a few years so the learning curb was less. Though it does feel strange to draw in photoshop..

 

is there any drawing pecific software you know off other then Art Rage

Yes, it's very nice for a first time.

great stuff for the first try,

the eyebrows and ears need more work, and just keep on shading on the skin, try other brushes from photoshop library or make yourself a custom brush.

There's Corel Painter, but honestly photoshop is the best program I've used for digital painting. Especially if you're familiar with the program, then you're going to get better results than looking for some random program that is more inclined to be used with tablets.

but, at least try corel Painter once, it really make your tablet shines, tilting, pressure sensitivity is awesome there.

 

However the layout of the tool is a mess, crowded, clipping on top of each other, Photoshop is way better in its interface layout

Having worked with Painter, I have to say you're absolutely correct. The interface is a f*cking nightmare to work with.
