chennaz321
Great film, really spooked me. Excellent build up of tension etc etc. Dont agree with the comment that we should have glimpsed the witch, prefer to see less and let the imagination do the work. To be honest I dont even really remember the hype surrounding it as I watched it a few years after release. Ive never understood why anyone would bother watching this type of thing in the cinema anyway, how are you going to be scared in a cinema, surrounded by people? Or even if by some chance you watch this in a cinema alone, on leaving there you are immediately thrust back into everyday life and normal activity. This would take the edge off any horror for me. Ive always thought that horrors are best viewed at home. Being scared inside a place you otherwise view as comfortable and safe is what its all about. Imo if youre going to watch it, do it in the early hours in the dark, on your own. The guy in the corner? f*ckin hell edit: yeah sequel was some nonsense That guy in the corner was standing there because, if you were listening near the beginning, it talked about how the witch made its victims stand in a corner so when the others come, their alert level is lowered. And then she apparently she killed the screaming chick too lol.
Slamman
The original concept and the sincerity drove it beyond the hype, but it was also extremily ripe for the joking in Scary Movies to follow! hahahaha I watched it on home viewing, but not too long after it was catapulted from obscurity. I wasn't scared by it, but it had the best effect from the claustrophobic camera eye, which doesn't give you a 360 view one would like to have when confronted with the unknown! ryuclan
Now, back on topic. I never thought the Blair Witch Project was a real documentary, because common sense reigns over such thoughts. I did once hear that it was based on a true story, but that's BS too. The film just used viral marketing (which is a lot more frequent nowadays) to sell the movie, and it worked. Yeah, it was marketed brilliantly. While we may take it for granted now, it was quite groundbreaking at the time. It's still a horrible film, but made an absolute packet. Well it was ok for the film to be a bit crappy because at the time it was "based on a true story." Although I couldn't stop hearing about this movie back in the day I haven't really seen it until a few months ago. Coincidentally my girl had bought it and wanted to watch it...utter crap that movie is.
Slamman
I wouldn't say it was, for the reasons I mentioned. It was not based on a true story. Even a recent film, the reviewer called out claims that it was based on a supposed real story. That's not always the case. Recall the film SNUFF? It was claimed as being Filmed in NY, where life is Cheap. Did anyone believe it? It was just marketing but it got interest up
Guybrush Threepwood
...it talked about how the witch made its victims stand in a corner... I was just staring out the window, like I do on dreary tuesday mornings. And it came across my mind that if a witch made me stand in a corner, I'd simply stroll out of the corner again. I dunno about you guys, but I'm a pretty casual stroll, kind of swaying, so I'd be making my way out that corner pretty fast. I know I'm a heckler, cause there's always THAT guy who goes 'horror movies are bullsh*t, cause they never think straight'. Things like people always going back to save someone, who does that? If I were in any of those situations I'd be 'f*ck it, I'm going home, let God sort 'em out.' I'd make a lousy horror movie
TubbyJ
I was like ten or something when I saw it on VHS. I wasn't sh*tting-my-pants scared, but I was pretty creeped out. It wasn't until I was lying in bed that night that I actually gave the ending some thought. Then that's when the pants sh*tting commenced. I watch it every now and then, still creeps me out a bit. What's cool about is watching it and knowing that the majority of the acting is adlibbed. Apparently the director dropped them in the woods for six days with two cameras and a box of Captain Crunch and let them go at it. There was originally something like 80 hours of usable footage they had to edit down. Pretty sweet flick actually if you wade through all the the negative opinions.. He was hanged in the corner and the girl was being carried down the stairs by the witch, hence all of the screaming.
