This thread/poll is here to help out R*. Please no flaming or getting in each others face. This is your own point of view thread. Think of it like R* Listening to your concerns about one of your favorite games.

When you finished voting please list your vote and a description of why you voted that way.

Edit:

I added another option to the poll.

Thanks Charlie, I did not think about that.

Ok I won't close this as long as the discussion is fair and none of this "cockstar sucks" crap. I have also added to the poll and given people the option of "the game is fine".

Aww, how can I choose just one?!

I will have to think about this.

edit;

I went with the bad anti-cheat.

It's the Processor depended-ness that is the REAL problem. I have a quad core CPU and the game is bottlenecking because of it!

I have an 8800 GTX and 4 GB of RAM so memory and the gfx card aren't the problem.

Personally GFWL. Never have been a big fan of windows, but don't have a choice really. I have ms ip's blocked in my host files and my router computer. I have to go and unblock an IP for GFWL when I want to play. Im not too keen on MS data collection service in the least.

GFWL seems like it was ment for single player or console games. Not us multiplayer pc gamers.

There are other things im not happy with but this by far is the largest.

The lack of dedicated servers was a bit of a shock for me. Most of the dedicated servers you play on in games these days are the best with Admin's who know the rules and can implement new game modes and better ways to play the game. Dedicated servers would've been nice but an honourable mention the the Anti-Cheat system goes out as Rockstar couldn't honestly believe that everyone would be good little kids and not mod multi-player ranked games cos were all good people? I swear they must've been pressed for time cos that was too big an oversight. But still i'd pick a dedicated server over a new anti cheat system any day unless the anti cheat system gave way to mod options in MP biggrin.gif

By "bad first release", you mean the fact that GTA IV PC was released with numerous bugs and issues, right? I chose that one.

I don't play MP a lot, so none of those aspects, like GFWL, affect me too much.

Also, I am satisfied with the performance of GTA IV on my PC right now (in sig); the fact that it goes below 30 FPS doesn't bother me, so "processor dependent" isn't such an issue.

I am sorta frustrated about building a new PC for this game, but in the end it is worth it to have the best GTA IV experience, plus playing other games at better FPS as well, so " system specs too high" I'm fine with...

The game does have many bugs in it. When I finally got to play the game for the 1st time, I was crestfallen to see the game crash within 1 minute of gameplay, and issue of stuttering was very annoying. It is fair to say that GTA IV PC wasn't in the condition it was expected to be when it was released, but luckily R* still supports the game, and they trying their best to fix the issues we are facing.

You got a Quad, and what is being bottlenecked? Im on a Quad with an 8800GT and running the game pretty high.

Voted for Anti cheat..

I voted that there is not enough support for the modders. I think so because this game has a lot to offer and has a big potential like all gta till now. So it would be nice that there would be a lot more big mods, that would change the shapes of many cars, and mybe add an iland.

For me the worst aspect was the bad release. Everything was set perfectly. Christmas release, a lot of good hardware to keep the game up was cheap and ready for the holidays, but it was too late to keep the PC fans of the franchise excited. Come on, PC was the birthground of the GTA franchise. Why do we have to wait for it to get ported when it should've been made for the PC and then ported to the consoles.

I voted "no support for the modders". Even though I'm not a modder, I enjoy the mods that people do make. I agree with Bosko that there is a lot of potential there for something great, and it'll happen whether they officially support it or not, it just makes it easier.

They say that they have lawyers monitoring mods very closely since Hot Coffee, but it was their own fault for leaving that code in there in the first place. Besides that indecent, modding for SA was, and still is, very successful. You'd think as a developer they'd want to embrace that (as Crytek did), but for some reason they don't.

Maybe R* should just let modders do their thing... with every patch that comes along, they should make an in-game cheat/modded file detector that disables MP, but can still allow people like me to use it for making videos and those who like playing SP over and over again.

Charlie, why did you add the "game is fine" option? It isn't even remotely in keeping with the topic. If your intention was to skew the results... well done. Success.

Hey your right. Charlie that is kinda against the topic, this is constructive criticism not ass kissing. If R* actually looks at this and the highest vote is for "Game is Fine" then what will they say? "Oh everyone thinks its fine in this patch lets do nothing that really helps anyone lets just let them think were still working on the game" Whereas if we all vote for an actual gripe with the game then they could notice it and maybe attempt to rectify their mistake. A little bit sus imo

Erm no it isn't, why shouldn't there be an option for people to vote "the game is fine" ? In my view the game is fine which is what I voted for. I would say having nothing but negative options on the poll would skew it a hell of a lot more than have ONE voting option to state you are happy with the game ........ or perhaps you don't want people that are happy with the game expressing an opinion here ?

I find it a little bit "sus" that you don't want to let people that have NO problem with the game have a voice. It is only right that there should be an option for those that genuinely have no problem with the game. I am one of them :-

computer specs too high = meh welcome to PC gaming have a nice f*cking day.

No dedicated server = meh really couldn't give a f*ck.

Processor dependant = WOW just like a normal game

No support for modders = Cry me a f*cking river I don't care.

Bad first release = Erm game has worked fine for me since day 1.

bad anti-cheat GFWL = I play rank racing there is very little cheating anyway

game patches = nice to see Rockstar Toronto supporting their product unlike Rockstar North

Games for windows live = meh it works so no biggie.

securom = it is still stopping people playing 4 months later and has not affected me in anyway

Game price = f*ck buy a console and then see what you have to complain about.

So if the option to vote "the game is fine" wasn't there then I couldn't vote. What I find very suspect is the fact that some people on this board seem to want to stifle those that do not have a problem with the game or if we state that then we are "kissing Rockstars arse". The TC was happy with the addition to the poll and I feel it is only right, so it stays.

Because we all know that when a poll is going on,everyone MUST vote. You don't have the option to not vote.

computer specs too high = meh welcome to PC gaming have a nice f*cking day.

Gotta give you right on that one.Everything is unoptimized nowadays, thus needs a good RIG.

No dedicated server = meh really couldn't give a f*ck.

Dedicated servers would be nice.We could use them.

Processor dependant = WOW just like a normal game

Don't know about that.Crysis isn't a "normal" game,it has huge, destructible enviroments, but it doesn't require a Quad processor to max it out. What in GTAIV needs so much power? That 20feet long spawning bubble around you?

No support for modders = Cry me a f*cking river I don't care.

Mods keep this game alive. For much of us at least. You finish the story and.........see,that's the problem. It get's boring, that is when mods come in.

Bad first release = Erm game has worked fine for me since day 1.

Erm...so if you had no problem, there was no problem?

bad anti-cheat GFWL = I play rank racing there is very little cheating anyway

Not everyone is you. tounge.gif

game patches = nice to see Rockstar Toronto supporting their product unlike Rockstar North

Yeah, there was a patch for a broken port, after that there was a patch for a patch, and here is the third patch that is actually a patch for the patch's patch. suicidal.gif

Games for windows live = meh it works so no biggie.

I had no problems with this, but i keep hearing that a lot of peeps are having trouble.Guess it needs improving/fixing.

securom = it is still stopping people playing 4 months later and has not affected me in anyway

I agree with this one too.

Game price = f*ck buy a console and then see what you have to complain about.

Listen to the man. biggrin.gif

Charlie (and I can't believe I'm having to clarify this), the thread title is "What is the worst aspect of GTA4?", not "What is your opinion of GTA4?". There is no grey-area here, you were wrong to change the poll options.

In that case how about I change the option too "whinging whining f*ckwits that haven't got a clue about how to manage a PC" because RIGHT NOW that is the worst aspect of GTA 4 for me biggrin.gif . This was quite clearly a skewed poll to begin with it is only FAIR and RIGHT that there should be an option for people to say "they have no problem". The fact you can't understand that does make me question your motives here. If you want think of it like someone saying "there is no worst Aspect of GTA 4" because for a lot of people there ISN'T.

Processor dependant = WOW just like a normal game

Come on CC!

You can't seriously say that the PC version of GTA IV makes use of the CPU anywhere near as well as it should, or as well as about 80% of all the other games released for PC in recent months/years.

I know many developers don't take the time (or just don't have the skills) to ensure that the load that games place on the CPU is reduced to only what is absolutely necessary, but I'd have hoped that Rockstar's developers would. Too much sh*t being processing at the one time (not half of which is actually needed)...overkill even for a game like GTA IV.

Something I've heard a lot is that the physics engine is the main cause. They should either a) develop their own f*cking physics engine (show a bit of brains), or b) made sure that it was built to run on PCs...not consoles.

Despite the fact that many can run the game fine...despite the fact that, when I played the game, I could run it reasonably well too...the problems of the PC version of GTA IV all come down to people's stupitidy with PCs (quite a lot out there), and focus - the focus of Rockstar Games as a whole. Too much time and money being focused on the console market and the console games - which has caused a large decline in the time, money and effort they invest in PC games, and an immeasurably-large decline in the size of their PC fanbase. Next time, it might not be Rockstar Toronto...it might be Rockstar Leeds, Rockstar Tokyo, Rockstar Dan Houser's Ass Crack, Rockstar Bronx, Rockstar Pripyat, or even Rockstar Shell North Sea Oil Platform...who the f*ck knows?...one thing's for sure though: consoles will get the game directly from DMA Design (Rockstar North).

Please guys, whats done is done.

All we can hope for is R* will look at our problems and try to fix them in a way that would have a huge impact in the community. Sort of like the ones affected most get looked after first.

It is fair in a democratic way. I am only looking for peoples "own" point of view here not what other people think of other peoples posts. We all know different people have different problems, we also know that a lot of people have problems and probably have not found their way to these forums. This is an idea as to where R* should concentrate on what they need to work on.

Please please please. Keep no comments on peoples problems or lack there of.

I think the lack of dedicated servers is the worst aspect of GTA IV.

With dedicated servers it would be easier to handle the modding/cheating problem in MP.

Tell you what, in the interest of fairness, why don't you change the "Rockstar appreciation thread" into a poll, and add a "I think this game is utter crap!", option, and see how well that fits?

Ok this is the last thing I am going to say on this subject because I am sick of it being derailed. Your comparison is flawed because there is NO poll and there doesn't need to be a poll in that topic. If there had been a poll in that forum that was nothing but "positive" voting options then I would have added a negative voting option. In fact if you read the replies you will see some have expressed that whilst they appreciate Rockstar Toronto there are things that could have been done better. Stop taking the topic titles as straight jackets, just because that is a Rockstar Toronto appreciation thread does not mean you cannot state why YOU DON'T appreciate them as long as it is done in a non-flaming manner.

Just like this thread is entitled "Worst Aspect of GTA 4" there is no reason why people cannot express the view that there is NO worst aspect of GTA 4 and because there is a poll it is only right that there should be an option to vote that there is NO worst aspect of GTA 4. Now if you have nothing to say on the actual topic being discussed here might I suggest you move on ?

Someone said that GTA IV renders most parts of the GFX with the processor. So i´m not wondering about the bad performance, at the release of gta iv, everyone had a godd gfx card so they doesn´t have render (all) over the processor. They also had to implement DX10 for AA, everyone can play in DX10 now.

So in my opinion: Thy wanted to make the game run for everyone better (because of low GFX cards that the game requires) but that was going right into the other way (it runs bad bad bad).

Also a problem could be, that the port from console was processor optimized (because of so much processors), and everything to graphiccard optimizing would probably too much work.

Anyway i don´t care about work, when i buy a game, then only for the work that the developers do. And the PC port was never 50€ work worth thats my opinion (multiplayer unplayable because of cheaters, see at Valve´s CS S or Blizzard´s WoW, then false optimizing for the pc and at least registrations on every f*ing platform und the f*ing securom, look at CS S or WoW, they DON´T need anyone)
