DJRopi
Memrestrict worked fine up until the numerical setting just below high textures, so that is all good. However; I was curious if the slow loading textures were a side effect of the memrestrict? Buildings and such will pop up in the backround, and on a few occasions entrances will appear completely grey or the street will be a big grey blot for a few seconds which make it very confusing to get around. _corTEC
Hey poor performance. What's the best config for GTAIV? I have tried WinXP x64 with 180.84 beta, and many different combinations of settings & o/s. I am sure that my computer can do better than it is doing. I prefer patch 1.0.4.0 for performance. Asus Striker II Formula - NB=58°C Q9550 @ 3.6GHz - LOAD=62°C 4GB DDR2 @ 925MHz Palit GTX260 Sonic SP216 1792MB @ stock - 70°C Coolermaster RealPower 620W Case Ambient=30-34°C FPS with Win7 x64 @ HIGH=23-45 FW:197.45 - Gameplay is a lot smoother at lower framerates. FPS with WinXP x64 @ HIGH=30-55 FW:180.84 - Gameplay is choppier at lower framerates but reaches higher figures. Rain is bad, night is bad, bright headlights are bad, lots of explosions are bad. I recently bought that 12MB Q9550, to replace a 4MB E6750 - I was not astounded by the performance increase. But in CPU benchmarks, at stock speeds, my processor is as fast as a QX9650. When I overclock it is as fast as dual Xeons. I have obviously bought a great E0 cpu. WTF is going on? Are 180.84 drivers worth it? What is the best patch? And please, please(!) what are the optimum settings for my computer because I am going f**kin' crazy!!! NOTE: I just saw this in someone's sig, (I don't mean to be rude but are you f**kin' serious(?)). QUOTE: Rockstar Toronto said: "We tested similar settings on a fast core I7 with 2 GTX 480's in SLI and seeing a pretty consistent 30fps. The hardware to run this game at FULL MAX settings at 60 fps does not yet exist but the game is coded such that when it does it will take full advantage." 30FPS on £3000 computer, get real Rockstar. _corTEC
Hey, I found settings that work well... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Video Mode: 1440 x 900 Texture: LOW Reflection Resolution: OFF Water Quality: MEDIUM Shadow Quality: HIGH Texture Filter Quality: HIGHEST View Distance: 1 Detail Distance: 1 Vehicle Density: 0 Shadow Density: 0 Definition: ON V-Sync: OFF --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 259/1766MB USED 45-80FPS on Win7 x64. WindedTrash
These amounts of memrestrict aint the only ones that can be used; It is amount of bytes to be available for gta 4, which prevents filling the video memory and slowing down the loading process and framerates of the game. I use my own amount: 688574400 and my graphics settings are placed on 688/896 MB so the 688 mb is near 688574400 bytes. This gave me fast texture loading and smoother framerates. So if none of those 9 different amounts dont work for you, you can do what i did and see if it helps. I also use notimefix and minspecaudio commandlines. I have 1792MB of video memory available, only 900ish used, so is the figure I need to place in the commandline.txt like: 950000000? _corTEC
Someone please tell me what best graphic settings to use? My spec is in my sig, if anyone has similar spec can you just post me a screen of your settings page? I am not being lazy - i have tried for around one and a half years now to get the best results. I have tried every combination of settings under the sun. I upgraded graphics from 8800GTS 640MB to a GTX260 SP216 1792MB for GTAIV, and just recently from a E6750 4MB to a Q9550 12MB just for this f**kin' game - and it doesn't seem to have made a great difference. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 run amazingly well, Crysis is more than playable - WTF is wrong with GTAIV? Quad-core at 3.60GHz?! I bumped it up to 3.95GHz once - just to see - and it was better, but come on... who has 4GHz quads at home? 68*C getting a little hot for me as well. WindedTrash
Heres some values between 3rd medium graphics and 1st high graphics: 335544320 (320 MB) 356515840 (340 MB) 377487360 (360 MB) 398458880 (380 MB) 419430400 (400 MB) 461373440 (440 MB) 503316480 (480 MB) 524288000 (500 MB) Basically -memrestrict is telling the game how much video memory your system has available. At startup we query the OS for this value but as some of you may have noticed the number can vary even though you are obviously not changing your video card everytime you play the game. Once the game exceeds the amount of video memory available, the Os finds it from somewhere else (system memory) and eventually this causes fragmentation and the game throws up an RESC10 error because the OS can't find anymore free memory. The tricky part is that every OS behaves differently, and thats before you factor in other .dll's and drivers that also make requests from this memory pool which will be different from user to user. Using -memrestrict explicitly tells the game how much video memory to use. The math is to take the desired meg number and multiply it by 1024 twice. So if we wanted to declare 600 megs of VRAM: 600 x 1024 x 1024 = 629145600 you would enter the commandline "-memrestrict -629145600" Lowering this number increases stability of the game by capping the video memory, but there will come a point where there isn't enough memory to draw everything required by the game which is when you see "popping". This was quoted from "Extreme texture pop-in" topic. Use that method to find out more values Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/404147-how-to-use-memrestrict-to-fix-stuttering/page/8/#findComment-1059973798 Share on other sites
fenom
I just don't get it... Am I doing this right? I made a file commandline.txt And copied in -memrestrict 629145600 and that's all?? And I have ati radeon 5770 1gb. Am I using the correct value. Do i need to copy it with the "-" ? Becouse I didn't see any diffrences. And I get stuttering if I have shadows enabled. mkey82
Make sure you don't have hidden file extension, because the file needs to be named commandline.txt, not commandline.txt.txt. fenom
Well i think i know how to type... And I used command line before... Ive tried all of them for 1gb cards, and below... mkey82
You need a single .txt. When saving with notepad you can't go wrong, as if you omit .txt notepad will append it automatically. And if you add it, it will not add another one. drewster352
Well I just purchased the game last week. Had that stupid stutter and it was driving me mad. I had several folks tell me that my system just could not handle it and to go buy a new video card. I refused to believe that. I had came across this thread and shrugged it off saying that can't possibly work. I installed the GTA 4 patches which made it worse. So I did a fresh install and updated my video drivers again. The new driver helped a bit but same thing after a few minutes. So I gave in and made a commandline.txt as instructed and ended up using -memrestrict 314572800. It runs smooth with no jerks. Thank you so much for the fix. You rock Rockstar Toronto And to all that told me my system could not play it...
