Glebun
worked pretty fine for me, except my game became sped-up (starting from the R logos everything goes too fast, really , sound is OK, at normal speed), but without any lags now edit: oh sorry, didnt notice the "If you are experiencing frame speed fluctuations...." it's about my problem? sorry, my english sucks, dunno the word "fluctuations" edit2: I guess the answer is yes, because after installing latest catalyst drivers (I have HD4870 1GB), the speed-up effect disappeared, but now I can't see most of the textures (I see only peds, cars, some fences and streetlights...) here's the screen: http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4479/screenyt.png edit3: Now the speed problem is present again, as well as the textures problem... edit4:Tried -nomemrestrict, works fine too, and without textures problem, but still sped up... edit5:Tried on XP 32bit (tried on 64bit before), also works good, but after ~3 mins starts lagging...one second freeze - half second normal.... vgmstudios
This game is such a finicky game. I'm having the stuttering issue as well. I have read a lot of forums and tried so many things. I hope someone can help me. Here are my PC specs: Crosshairs II 4GB Hyper X RAM EVGA 295 GTX 1792 MB, 896 bit DDR3 800 watt PSU AMD Phenom II X4 940 Vista Ultimate Sp1 NET framework 3.5 sp1 I have uninstalled the game and reinstall with the 1.0.4 patch. I have tried this commandline.txt with -memrestrict 188743680 and it still stutters. I am even running AMD Fusion Utility (kills all unnecessary programs running in the background) with the Online Gaming Profile. Game settings are on High. I have also updated video drivers to the latest as well as Nforce. Anything I can do to try to fix this? VGM out... kskartirtiks
MY PC specs are : INTEL core 2 duo 2.33ghz processor,4mb cache mem NVIDIA 8600 gt 1gb memory 2 gb ram intel DG41RQI mother board i think gta 4 is badly optimised . i am trying to run this game smoothly with medium settings on my pc (above) . i get around 16 - 23 fps( on frapes) on med settings in first city ,but after playing for about half an hour or one my fps rate degrads to 14-16, resource usage comes to 350 / 1002 mb (video memory i suppose ). inspite of having huge video memory why does not the game utilize complete video memory to increase the frame rates. here is one of the bechmarks i got( after patching it with the latest patch) : Statistics Average FPS: 24.80 Duration: 37.14 sec CPU Usage: 98% System memory usage: 86% Video memory usage: 42% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1280 x 768 (75 Hz) Texture Quality: Medium Texture Filter Quality: High View Distance: 10 Detail Distance: 21 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Video Driver version: 195.62 Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz 2 nd bench mark : Statistics Average FPS: 28.87 Duration: 37.16 sec CPU Usage: 99% System memory usage: 76% Video memory usage: 42% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1024 x 768 (75 Hz) Texture Quality: Medium Texture Filter Quality: High View Distance: 10 Detail Distance: 21 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Video Driver version: 195.62 Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz inspite of getting 28 fps i still experience sluttering while playing ( i experince of getting 12-16 fps ) i have used -nomemrestrict -norestriction/s -percentvimemory 100 -availablevidmemory 1.0 in the command line.txt why does sluttering increase in the second city i.e the middle island ( I HAVE NOT VISITED THE THIRD ISLAND YET) and while police start chasing me ????? i understand that i need a quad core to run the game on higher setting but why wont it run even on med settings on my current pc. i am tired of this game , GTA SAN ANDREAS is my all time favourite GAME ,bcz it has country side and lots of other stuff ............... inlove.gif PLEASE HELP ME OUT !!!!!!!!! panevbg
I am experiencing frame skipping in your game, not stuttering. I try the whole 8.X - 9.X catalyst. Nothing helped, neither did the patches. I tried the lowest possible -memrestrict: "-memrestrict 188743680" and there is zero difference in frame skipping. Am I supposed to notice any change change in texture settings in the game? Because i try with the lowest and highest posible and there is NO change in the settings, maybe -memrestrict is not working for me? I'm playing the game through steam and i tried to defragment cache files or verify game cache and nothing helped. The only thing that helped a little bit is when i maxed Detail distance and Shadow density. I tried everything. Closed all background applications and nothing helped. Here is the example of frame skipping - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS07aS3UWyM [email protected] 4gb RAM 4850 512mb @ Catalyst 9.11 StatisticsAverage FPS: 57.64 Duration: 37.15 sec CPU Usage: 63% System memory usage: 53% Video memory usage: 76% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: Medium Texture Filter Quality: High View Distance: 25 Detail Distance: 37 Hardware Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Video Driver version: 8.14.10.708 Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Intel® Core2 Quadÿ CPUÿ Q9450ÿ @ 2.66GHz File ID: Benchmark.cli Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/404147-how-to-use-memrestrict-to-fix-stuttering/page/7/#findComment-1059704084 Share on other sites

Smokey el Bandito
So I've tried the -memrestrict command lines as instructed to, just about all of them, and my game still won't work. Instead of getting incredibly slow and stuttering after about half an hour, it now will load the game up, but when it's time to get to the menu screen, it just black screens and starts running something in the background called "Protected Storage". I can click Ok on the Protected Storage screen and it crashes my game, or I click cancel and it nearly crashes my PC. Anyone have this happen to them? STEVE124
I've used the first line for low textures -memrestrict 188743680. It still dies. I can play for 30 minutes to an hour in singleplayer 0-10 minutes in multiplayer. Runs fine then suddenly frames drop to 0. The last time I got an error when it happened during multiplayer. SMPA50. Windows XP SP3 AMD Athlong 64 X2 2.2ghz @ 2.8ghz stable. 2GB DDR2 800 (pc2600) nVidia 8600GT PCI-E 256mb latest drivers. 30GB free HDD space. GTA IV patched to 1.0.3.0 (duh) Used to work on medium settings in previous versions of GTA IV. Don't know what else to try. It's kind of annoying. EDIT: That's it. I'm done. It's not even playable now. You can have this pile of crap back. stop bitching man. unknownmember
I know this is a bit off topic but from what I understand the game simply is a bad port or something. All i can undertand from that is the game is written to run on consoles and Rockstar did a crap job at converting it to run on PC. More to the point, if that's the case then why did Rockstar did that? I mean the game is one of the most inticipated titles and they do this to us. I mean I don't care if I have to pay double the price but atleast the game is stable and runs efficiently. All i can undertand from that is the game is written to run on consoles and Rockstar did a crap job at converting it to run on PC. More to the point, if that's the case then why did Rockstar did that? Oh yeah, like they did that on purpose. This time R* North objected to making the port, so this time around, R* Toronto made it. I guess they're just new to it or something. pickupguy
Turning shadows off fixed the stuttering issues for me. Low quality isn't enough, they have to be disabled completely. I know it looks like crap and kills the atmosphere but it is the only solution that actually works for me. We can only hope to get this fixed by Rockstar soon. menphues
How do I do this? I know nothing about commandlines. I'm using medium settings, even thow my pc will play highest. I get stuttering on high and highest, and medium it's fine. I've got the latest ATI drivers and sound, so it shouldn't be them. It's got me lost, and if it doesn't all get fixed. Then I've wasted money on the game for nothing, but when I've been playing the game for about 10minutes, it really starts to make noise. My pc fans really kick in, as if it's really trying to work, when it shouldn't. This game is very demanding, it will heat up your PC fast and cause your fans to work twice as hard to keep it cool. If I remember correctly, put the mem command in the short cut.
