Girish
For GTA IV standards, I'm afraid yes. Your system falls somewhere between minimum and recommended requirements. So, realistically speaking, you should be happy even if you get 30 fps @ medium settings. I get 40-45 fps on medium settings and my system is above recommended. I have a Core2Quad Q6600, 4 GB RAM and a HD 4850. So, I guess you can imagine why it would be difficult for you to get more fps on medium or high settings. However, if you can overclock your processor (provided you have adequate cooling), you'll notice a considerable increase in performance. Well, is it very expensive to buy a processor like yours? I've noticed you use Vista, I use XP. But anyway, if I have a graphic card like yours and a processor like yours, how much money will I spend, in euros? Girish
The Q6600 isn't really an expensive quad core, by today's standards. Neither is the 4850 an expensive card. I haven't checked their prices in euros but you can look them up in one of your local online shopping sites. I wouldn't recommend upgrading because you can get a satisfactory performance out of your current system, provided you overclock your processor, as I said before. But if you're looking to max out the game and still have your performance, then you might need to consider an upgrade. In that case, you can ask for help in the Tech & PC Chat forum. State your budget and someone will put up a nice build for you. It seems that you don't have much knowledge about overclocking. Overclocking your processor would mean running it at a higher clock rate than the stock clock rate. In your case, it would mean running your processor at a clock rate higher than 2.3 GHz. I suggest you Google 'overclocking' and read up on it. There are some excellent guides out there that will explain to you the tiny bits of overclocking. If you're still unsure, you can always get a computer technician to help you overclock your processor. I'll check that out Meanwhile, I'll reinstall the fresh game and will only use textures mod Let's see if I can coordenate performance with graphics. But I still have a question. If I'm only using less than 1/3 of my resource usage MB, why does the game still lag and crash? And which mods cause more errors so I can avoid them? Girish
I can't really pinpoint which mods will cause errors. You'll have to try them out one by one. Remember, GTA IV is a very sensitive game and that is why you have issues in spite of using lesser resources. Although, don't forget that the 4670 is not a really a top of the line card. The VRAM can't be of much help if the processing power is weak. The game requires an extremely good combination of CPU and GPU to run smoothly. Be careful with what you do with your system; even a slight change might upset the game. If you're installing mods, do it one at a time. Girish
It depends on your texture quality setting, man. If you have set it to low, then use the one that corresponds to low texture quality; and so on... T-ru
I do not want to make a smart , but i did that and game is good now You must find your -memrestrict number example: If you have problem whit this number 629145600 or to any from -memrestrict topic or whit this number 262144000 you have nice fps but popping up textures. Just lower the first two numbers example:609145600;599145600...or 242144000;222144000. Ìay increase them.Àlso you can lower first number or second IMPORTANT:every time when you change the number, before try you must go here: x:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings and delete 3 files I'm sorry if I repeat some1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/404147-how-to-use-memrestrict-to-fix-stuttering/page/6/#findComment-1059512209 Share on other sites
DAV1D90
Well i installed Windows 7 and now i have stuttering problem again. I can install special forceware for GTA IV, because theres no support for Win7, so what can i do? Now I am using latest stable drivers and result are horrible - small FPS and it is stuttering all the time. benchmark 32FPS vs 57FPS on Win XP. Makes me sick. patch 1.0.4 9600GT 512MB 2GB RAM C2D E8200 Edited October 2, 2009 by DAV1D90 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/404147-how-to-use-memrestrict-to-fix-stuttering/page/6/#findComment-1059536098 Share on other sites
Girish
Have you even tried the -memrestrict command as suggested in this very topic? That should get rid of the stutter. If you're using any other commandlines, get rid of them. Also, make sure that you don't exceed the available resource limit. Adding another 2 gigs of RAM will also help your performance. DAV1D90
On 180.84 I had 57FPS on benchmark and with every new FW I had FPS loss. So I revert back to 180.84 but since I have installed Windows 7 I cant. So my GTA IV "runs" at sh*tty FPS and with stuttering all the time. Nice work Nvidia and R*. This is what I paid for. Neverending problems. Thanks. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/404147-how-to-use-memrestrict-to-fix-stuttering/page/6/#findComment-1059536150 Share on other sites
Girish
So, you decide to completely ignore my post and blame Nvidia and R* instead? Also, quite frankly speaking, expecting the game to run better than it did on XP with only 2 GB of RAM is expecting too much. Both Vista and 7 consume more memory than XP leaving lesser memory for the game to utilise. Just try what I said in my previous post and report back wit the results. DAV1D90
of course i already tested it. And what about this: XP consume 22% from my 2GB RAM and Win7 25% thats not a huge difference. Stop speak to me like I was computer lame. Check page 5, theres my bechmark on XP and solution from R*, wich on XP helped... Girish
The benchmark tool is inaccurate. The memory requirement for Win 7 is higher than that of XP. Google for OS system requirements and you'll find out. Get another 2 gigs of RAM and try the -memrestrict command again or try a different video driver or just go back to XP. yic17
Just to confirm that Nvidia 181 version works! Before downgrading the driver, I could only play for 30 minutes and then game starts to lag - while I set my screen to 1024 x 768. Now the game plays PERFECT for HOURS with all settings to medium and screen to 1680 x 1050 =) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/404147-how-to-use-memrestrict-to-fix-stuttering/page/6/#findComment-1059539811 Share on other sites

DAV1D90
thanks, I just downgraded drivers to 181.71 (lowest on Win7) and it runs smooth again.
