There are 14 chapters in all.

And no Acts?

It's separated into three acts. Forgot to mention that.

Fourteen chapters over three acts? Jesus f*ck that's shorter than MP2 and that was already hella short...

Ah well let's hope for the best... couple of weeks to go.

Does anyone know, how to use a human shield in Max Payne 3 ??? I read somewhere u can do this, if I remember correctly.

Edit:

Some other modification such as the cover system, using human shields, more destructive powers, healing power etc are included in this series.

Edit 2: Found out it's not possible, what a shame. confused.gif

I'm kind of skipping what everyone else is writing because I don't want to hit any spoilers -- but just played for a half hour -> first impressions:

I *watched* the first chapter. The cut-scenes are _really_ long. It's a little hard getting used to the linear set up -- I thought it'd be more open. Also, it'll take a while to get used to shoot-dodge and bullet time. They're essential to getting thru the fights. I thought I could just use cover like in GTA4 or RDR.

So far, I suck in MP. Got killed 10 times and not one kill! damn. Not an illustrious start to the FAPA crew. sad.gif

Looks good though. Getting ready to sinking many hours into the game over summer.

EDIT Does anyone know -- the Gorilla mask bonus thing, is it only available to US accounts now?

I was really looking forward to the damn monkey mask and those other two things I can't remember.

Yes, I'm stupid and retarded because MP3 is not my religion and Max isn't my idol.

How exactly MP3 MP is better than GTA 4 MP?

its clearly better in every way... how exactly is IV's MP good in any way? It's not.

Only thing i can think of, is free roam online, but guess what, MP3 isn't a free roam game, IV's free roam is even sh*t as f*ck given the sheer lack of activities available.

Technical error? I've not assigned a Gamertag, I assume that's a step I have to remedy apparently. I did set preferences for Friends and Crews to see my SC stats, not everyone though! haha

I don't mind GTA IV Multiplayer, but it's shadowed even by RDR, so it's not a stretch that MP3's is better as well. It's been debated on how to improve it ever since!

To add about the immersion comments I made, I don't mind subtitles, but have too much text on the screen detracts from enjoying the visuals themselves. That's what I as a former artist like to appreciate about evolving game tech, but I realize that there's another angle here with regard to stylizing a game

Agree with GTAKing, ever since mentioning Rio and Max's new career move, I thought of Man On Fire in relation to this game. Here we were thinking the Housers weren't going to use films as influence for games but reverse that perception! haha

This game's narrative is one of the best I've ever seen. Any one who says it's not noir can suck it. It has a very noir feel to it the way Max narrates what's going on. It's just a different twist on the noir genre.

Everything is superb in this game. I had my doubts about it but I picked it up and fell in love with it. Amazing, amazing single player. I hope the gun mechanics in this carry over to GTAV. Not things like shoot dodge but everything else. It actually feels like your bullets hurt the enemy and their not made of rubber like in GTA4. Has to be the gore but when you shoot a gun it feels so much more powerful as opposed to IV's pellet gun against rubber enemy feel.

I switched the controller configuring to "Type 2" I think it is so it controls exactly like RDR besides the bullet time and shoot dodge buttons. I kept diving through the air when I meant to be taking cover which lead to me faceplanting a wall a lot.

Highly recommend this, once I finish SP I'll get invested on MP.

It's a good game (completed today). It's not amazing, but very good. It's all a bit one-note, you go room-to-room shooting people in the exact same way. But the dialogue, cutscenes and overall visual and technical achievements are brilliant. The 'no-load-screens' gameplay is very impressive, the way the game cuts between entire locations in an instant is unmatched by any other game I've ever seen.

I didn't find the checkpoints too bad, but there were some points where you'd wipe out a room of people, die from a single guy who bursts through a door and then have to repeat. So they could be frustrating. In terms of gameplay, the need to use cover is a little disappointing. If you want to stand a chance, you have to stay behind cover. In MP1/2 you just dived into the room and shot until everyone was dead. I liked that better than having to hide and often wait for an enemy to leave cover themselves to shoot them. I was using soft-lock targeting and I found a lot of the time the game was poor at locking onto the targets I intended.

Overall though a lot of fun, probably 8/10 if I was doing scores. Done a little multiplayer, seems pretty solid.

Enjoyed a good couple of sessions of TDM Multiplayer last night. There are a lot of different options and playstyles to chose from. Right now I'm going as a dealer, which has a shotgun and pistol. My guy has no armor, but can run and gun better than those more loaded down. It took a while to get used to, but shoot dodge and bullet time are pretty effective and a 'blast' when used correctly. I find that cover is also effective, but can also get flanked easily. All in all, a really strong addition to an already cool game.

Anyone else planing on joining the MP event later?

I really hate how when you get killed with one bullet left in your mag and you still into that 'Last Man Standing' thing. It happened a lot to me in Chapter VII. Some random douche would fire a bullet through my skull, I'd start falling he'd duck behind cover, his head barely showing, I fire.

Click, Click, click, click, click... Now I'm stuck falling for about 2 minutes. I wish they had tested this game a little better.

I've also fallen into 'Blue hell' about 20 times since last night.

Well, Zavvi outdid themselves and managed to get the game to me today, and, wow, I'm impressed. It's a beautiful looking game, and handles well. The singleplayer is hard as f*ck, but I'm in love with the multiplayer. Miles ahead of GTA IV's slapdash effort.

One thing that's annoyed me though, is that all the Portuguese dialogue in the game is only given in Portuguese. I thought the subtitles would translate it, but nope, they're in Portuguese too. I know it's realistic and all, but the NPC conversations were one of the best things about the first two games, and it sucks that I have to learn a new language to enjoy them.

Also, CAPTAIN BASEBALL BAT BOY!

I've rented the game for the Xbox until it comes out on the PC. Overall it is a very good game single player wise just like the original two and I love the dark story and narrative. Just one problem though is that while online, I encounter some annoying bugs. While playing TDM I do more damage at long range and if I get very close to an enemy, we're both just stood there firing the absolute crap into each other doing no dmage what so ever until some other guy comes around the corner and kills me confused.gif Online is retarded.

So far I like it. It's not like the old games Like Knife said where you can just run in and shoot. You have to use strategy and be patient at times. The number one thing that bothers me is if I have the MP5 in my hand before the cut scene I get switched back to the pistol right after the cut scene. That's the number one complaint I have so far.

Glad you're digging it. I've been getting some mixed comments as of late this last week, people seem to have strong opinions one way or another. If the MP aspect grabs you def give us a ring. Last time I saw you on a game you were running me over with a jeep. sly.gif

Negatives

Despite Rockstar's marketing, the single player is a definitely a cover based game. 99% of the time shootdodging could have been fun, but it's not. Why? Because the enemies are so powerful, and because they're constantly sticking to cover. It would have been more fun if the difficulty had been balanced so you could shootdodge/run-and-gun your way through each part of the game.

Story was somewhat predictable, and sometimes too far fetched.

Lack of variety in progression (go to this room, go to next).

Minor bugs (mainly rare audio skipping).

Golden guns heavily break the pacing, and the game design works against you when trying to find them. If you're making a linear shooter, don't bore me by making me check every single corner of the level before I progress into the next section of the map.

Positives

Everything else! This game was awesome, I've never played a game that felt quite so cinematic. And any problems I had with the cover based nature of Single Player was alieviated by the multiplayer mode. The whole game is great. And mechanically, it's the most polished game Rockstar has ever published. However just in terms of gameplay variety, this game doesn't match up to other Rockstar games from this generation. GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption are simply more interesting to play, especially from a story perspective.

If Red Dead Redemption was a 10/10 and GTA IV was a 9.5/10, I'd have to give Max Payne an 8.5/10 for the single player, and 9.5/10 for the multiplayer.
