As a Max Payne fan i was skeptical about this new title. When i first laid my eyes upon the GI cover, i was freaking speechless. " OMGWTF?!" was my reaction. But then I start to read the article, and I am loving the direction they are taking Max. All you MP fans out there, take a moment of your time to read this.

A Part of Max Payne is NY. His trade mark is the leather jacket and the colourful shirt. The whole point of the colourful shirt was to stick out agaisnt the Noir setting as it was a glimmer of colour. This very little details made max payne.

 

By all the information presented it doesn't look very noir due to many variety of colours and the day time setting 

Let me think what I want, I am going to remain as skeptical as f*ck espcially since the mian writer is absent.

 

To me New York is Max Payne. So no matter how awesome or good this game is it won't be a bloody Max Payne game. Do you understand now ? NON of us said the game will suck, we just saying its not friken Max Payne. New York was just as big togame as f*cking Max Payne was to the game. Get it ?

No Max Payne isn't NY. To you Max Payne is NY but you are no one of importance and I'm not saying that in a negative way. You had no hand in creating the game and you are bitching for no reason when you don't know sh*t about the game. Get over it. Don't buy the damn game but crying because he doesn't have a damn leather jacket or isn't in NY is some serious weird ass sentimental bull sh*t. You guys are looking into this way too much. When in game unvielings do the developers speak on everything in the game? Never because then the element of surprise is gone. To think that the game will only take place in daytime is stupid and to think that any Noir elements is gone is stupid. Actually your whole basis is stupid because you know nothing about the game and were making your assumptions as if you played it.

 

The GI story said it best. They had to evolve. There is nothing wrong with evolution. And so what the main creator and writer isn't there. It isn't like there isn't thousands of other credible writers out there. Numerous franchise in all forms of media have done great things by switching locations, getting different writers and so on. Look at Star Trek for example. A long running successful franchise that clicked with a certain audience. Max Panye was a successful game sales wise selling like 7 million. Max Payne 2 on the other hand didn't set the charts ablaze and you can say it clicked with a certain group. With R* doing what they are doing they are evolving the game and making it seem fresh to a wider audience of people who may have never played a Max Payne game in their life. Like with Star Trek a new vision that still respected it's roots but was more mainstream and considered the best in the franchise ended up being the most successful. R* is pretty credible and could accomplish a similar task with Max Payne 3.

Thanks for posting that krougenox, it was a good read. When is it out again? this has become a day 1. buy for me,

 

From what I read it will have a lot more focus than the sprawling IV, I`m thinking a more linear story, but hopefully a lot longer than a CoD. Some prcedural missions are a must, but not the dating/racing/friends stuff of IV.

 

I think where this game is going to be a big hit is multiplayer. I hope those favelas are constructed from Euphoria materials, be great to see a player come crashing down thru three storeys of wood and corrugated iron. If they`ve beefed up the mocap>Euphoria>mocap transitions of the models then the MPs for this and Red Dead Redemption could be GTA killers

Well, after reading the story (Finally, BIG thanks for those scans) I am kind assured. Still, it's going to be a damn hard job to have the old feeling back, but reinvented/completely improved to contemporary standards.

 

Gameplay footage/trailer would be nice. I hope the voice actor suits Max well. Previous voice actor was brilliant.

What the hell is up with everyone flipping out and getting pissed off at me lately.

 

I keep summing it up and some people just dont get it.

 

MP1+2 = good, and what we WANT.

 

MP3 = not what we want, and by the screens NOTHING excites.

 

Therefore its not a max payne game, and based on how they are selling it, and the fact its not the same devs or writers. Just by sheer probability, looking at especially other sequels that had amazing first games then ended up really sucking. I really doubt this can be that great at all.

 

Usually games either over sell or over hype games up to look like something really good, then turn out sh*t. So I dont know where this lies on the scale, as I am not excited about anything I have seen, annoyed by quite alot of it. Which is very rare within complete first looks of games. Selection of images arent good at all It doesnt seem like it has any similiarites to the previous games, I dont want them to take on another angle. Though I guess they did that because they knew they wouldnt be able to make it the same, if they knew that why bother and save us the time. By the very few screens I already see things I dont like about it. Gameplay wise. I can just tell.

Then don't play the damn game. It's as simple as that. If MP 3 is something you don't want who the f*ck cares? Don't buy it but quit bitching about a game you haven't played and are so emotional over it because it's not the same damn game as MP 1 and 2. RE4 was the best one in the series. It was actually scary. Those old RE games weren't scary at all IMO. I didn't care if a zombie killed me or not, and I didn't care if I run out of ammo. RE4 however was intense.

On a more serious/related note to what OnePiece was talking about, is anybody here a fan of Die Hard? I mean, Bruce Willis was awesome in the first 3 Die Hards and looked great, but then he lost his hair ala Die Hard 4.0, but he still kicked it pretty good in that film. He was still the same over the top, tough guy and I liked that film a lot, and it was a little different from the formula that made the first three Die Hard's so successful.

My thoughts of him turning bald is because couldn't take looking in the mirror and seeing the pale reflection of his own self. So what does he do? He decides too change his appearance, to be unrecognizable, for himself and anybody else in his past. It makes sense. Also it's f*cking hot and humid in Brazil, so logically it would be smart to shave his hair off.

 

As for the beard, he just hasn't shaved, being an alcoholic and letting himself go. He has no one to impress or look good for.

 

I would like to see in the prologue of the story (beginning) how he looks in the mirror and as the panels unveil themselves, you see max shave off his head. Now would that be cool or what

I can see two reasons for making him bald:

 

1: Detail level is way too high to use plastic-looking mesh for hair, they would have needed to give him real hair. How would it look when max's coat was a BIG deal back then, but these days he has a hard ass helmet-hair?

 

or

 

2: We are only seeing one side of the game. I have a feeling we will look back on things, even travel. We'll see. It's Not an open world game, so it has Levels irregardless. Which means it doesn't necessarily take place all in brazil, or all outside, or all in the day etc. There is Way more than meets the eye when a game takes this long.

Die Hard 4 sucked so much compared to the others. I know it was never meant to be realistic but there were hints in Die Hard 1.

 

Like when he finally got a machine gun and we were all like WOW when in 4.0 he just gets them willy f*cking nily.

In 1 he couldn't walk on glass which added to the intense atmosphere in 4.0 he can sudenly jump of breaking bridges onto jets

and he didn't even say his f*cking catch phrase.

 

If Max Payne 3 is anything like what 4.0 was to the die hard series then well.... its going to be the biggest piece of sh*t.

I was maybe expecting detroit, chicago, or maybe even south central LA; but this is sh*t.

I want some sort of continuation on the previous story. Max payne finally having something to lose... i want this tragic hero to finally get his well deserved happy ending.

If you were waiting for GTA5 and the first screenshots were of barbie's horse riding rape cirus, I think you would react in the same way. Its prettymuch almost to that scale for me, I didnt say the game wont be playable or even good. Im saying just by the confirmed facts, it wont be a max payne game. And that was what I was wanting. Every single thing in all of those screens I dont like. There is not one good thing about it. Usually there is on release images.

 

Its lost its art form. You NEED hair, and you NEED more clothing, to sway in the breeze and move while in bullet time. You cant do it in f*cking massive work boots looking like a bum, it just looks stupid. From that image, completely horrible. And I need my games to look decent. The way he was holding the weapons too I didnt like at all.

Rumors (or not?) about release dates.

 

Looking through different retail sites it seems that Max Payne 3 has an all-but confirmed release date of November 30 2009. According to Play.com, Max Payne 3 will be hitting shelves on the last Friday before December. The release date is also noted in PSW Magazine for 30 November. I then looked on Game, the UK's biggest game retailer and according to them the game will be released on the 24th September 2010. What will it be? Most likely November 30 so watch out for that date and mark it on your calendar for one of the biggest games of 2010

That is in no way the same thing as what is happening here whatsoever.

 

What really gets me is that I'm fairly sure that if this game were to come out and everything was identical to the first two people would be bitching and moaning about that too. It's Resident Evil syndrome, people complained that every game was the same thing and then when the formula did change to something more like they wanted people complained that it just wasn't the same. Give it more of a chance beyond one preview, I've already said I'm not a big fan of the changes they've made but the key thing to me about Max Payne was more how they told the story, it was the graphic novel panels and the narration. Clever writing made Max Payne enjoyable, if I'm being honest the gameplay in the first two was fairly generic third person shooter with the addition of a gimmick, albeit a gimmick done well.
