I'll laugh my ass off when Rockstar reveals that all of this was just a big joke (either pre-planned or from going back to the whiteboard after hearing the extremely positive fan reaction) to gain free publicity or as Daz put it, a nightmare or a silly prologue.

What if this change in direction is related to the Rockstar published LA Noire being made by Team Bondi, sure right now we don't know if that game is still happening but with its film noir theme maybe R* big wigs decided not to have two similarly themed games? Yeah probably a silly thought, its just R* should know what worked for Max Payne 2 as they did publish it so there has to be a reason for the total change of direction.

I love Max Payne 1 and 2, I really do. To the extent that, they are the only games I have ever downloaded mods for.

But seriously, some of you lot are acting like a bunch of f*cking drama queens. Cry me a f*cking river, bitches. I've read three pages of whinging, and it seems like a few of you may have actually grown a vagina in the process. tounge.gif

Seems weird that most of you basically assume this game sucks major balls even though only a bit of info is known. It could very well be an awesome game.

I will admit I'm not a fan of the direction it seems to be taking but we don't really know much else about the game. Wait until they release more information, remember the good things from the previous games could still return, the comic strip storytelling, naration and the night time grittiness. So far all we've seen is a few screenshots and a picture of him.

It's the same with all the people bitching about Left 4 Dead 2 and doing their pathetic little boycotts, people need to be a bit more patient and at least give games a chance. There was a time when I didn't think GTA would work as a full 3D Game leading up to GTA3 coming out and I was wrong there. This change in direction could be the best thing to happen to Max Payne, it could be the worst but judge it when you play it not by a snippet of information.

Still, it's hard to implement the typical 'Film Noire' in the current setting. On top of that, Max Payne looking like a Hobo/Joh Mclane drunkard instead of the flappy leather jacket? It's like Gordon Freeman WITHOUT an HEV suit...

And yes it's a bit too early to 'whine' about this. But this is what we think from the game at the moment. And about the Left4Dead boycott... yes boycotts and such are ridiculous and most of the times they don't have any 'effects' whatsoever. Though they have a point (same thing with the Call of Duty 2 and World at War boycott's).

Like I said I'm not a fan of it myself but I do think it's a bit early to judge, I mean the game could be based on flashbacks and those sections we saw are just small sections meaning it's still possible to tell it in that style. I can't see them turning away completely from what made the first two successful, it could happen but I have some faith that Rockstar arnt going to be that stupid and if so, well it's their loss.

I'm a bit scared like the rest, I love Max Payne. I won't be closed off from these early finds of information, in fact it sort of makes me wonder if maybe Rockstar knows just how passionate Max Payne fans are, and in turn, they are sort of introducing some different parts of the game and not yet showing us what has become of Max details that we know.

For all we could know, those pictures could depict a one-time event. Maybe the pics are something they are using to show off the demo since it doesn't, for example, show us the advancements or improvements they made to the whole noir thing.

It's known that Rockstar is taking the words "Next Generation" very seriously, and I suppose we fans need to give Max room to evolve with them. Max player model itself can't be this little guy with a twisted smirk anymore, it didn't really fit him then (took away from the deep storytelling for me) but I suppose it did fit the art style. Like, Fido compared to Niko. Niko couldn't be all big-shoes and cartoony these days.

But more about these pictures: What if this was the Max Payne 2 announcement and they were showing the Mona Sax level from early on in the game? And only certain parts of it. Or the dream sequence being used for all the trailers tounge.gif See what I mean? We'd call foul. Instead, look at it like, this could be just the opening to the game or something, where he's on some mission, and it ends and he goes back to the noir stuff right after the end.

In fact, that makes Perfect sense for him to be doing some action-hero thing these days, we cut into the game given the gift to be a part of that, and Then, in the beginning of the game, it cuts off and you're playing the "off time" of the video game action hero - just like the old games, really. So maybe, since obviously no way could Max Payne continue like he was after all that went down in the first two games, it makes sense that maybe someone noticed him and gave him a job.

Think of it like the first 2 games are his origin, what created the "wolverine" within Max Payne, and way more awesome stuff was happening. Like, stop thinking of old Max Payne games as the way it should be, and kind of take a look at those two games as what made him into a bad ass - Now it gets way more interesting to me.

Thanks for that, nice quick read. Still I would like to point out clearly to you that nowhere does it say in that particular link that the game is exclusively set there, it merely comments on what was talked about. What was talked about was what was shown, but it doesn't mean the whole game is being shown in the very first look at it. I'm speculating as well. Optimistically. And I don't see the whole game taking place in the daytime, and it definitely will not be as different as we are fearing.

That comic is hilarious too. Was there anything online like this interview? I'd like to see some online stuff if possible.

It`s day/night cycles and here`s a cut and paste from the official site, it says he`s trapped in A city. I think that means he wont be travelling around

Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.

As long as the story is told in the same way like in previous Max Payne games, and as long as the gameplay is good, I don't see the reason not to give it a try. Sure it's not New York cops vs. Mafia, but still...

True, but thats besides the point.

Good game or not, its NOT a Max Payne game.

Which is the point we are trying to make.

All of us being max payne fans, which is the reason we are here and were excited for it.

Not as many people are excited for: " Generic mediocre action shooter " We have plenty of those already.

Im not saying its going to be completelly fully sh*te. But it has definately lost ALL hope of being a really high standards game, on par with its previous titles.

This has no chance of even getting more than a 7.0 at best.

It comes down to the bottom line which has been said many times:

If this was not called Max Payne 3, would anyone even give a sh*t what this game is?

That was ignorant. You know little about the game and are speaking as if you know everything about it and have played it. Now if this game gets higher then a 7 which it more then likely will are you going to somehow jump back on Max Payne's dick? That GameInformer cover looks interesting and the overall game does as well. I don't see how any Max Payne feel has been lost and I don't see how any of you think it's been lost either since you know jack sh*t about the game.

Then bitching about the location. Sao Paulo is 10 times worse then NY in terms of crime and has more brutal gangs and is run by drug lords and corruption. Then the city is segregated into the rich areas and the below low income housing. Then the pain killer addiction adds new depth. Maybe it'll have more psycological type elements in the game. Maybe Max will be seeing things and it'll be hard to seperate from reality. There is no indication that the Noir aspect has been taken out. Actually it could work alot better is such a place like Sao Paulo which is crime infested and only Rio De Janiero is worse off in Brazil then Sao Paulo. The game looks gritty and violent so what are you complaining about.

Graphic novel story telling, bullet time, great story, good game play and the same voice are the only things that matter to me. But if they make the pc version as bad as IV's I will be... upset. And who knows, maybe he will put on a leather jacket soon after the game starts?

From what the spread on the Game Informer states, Max Payne 3 is based in São Paulo, Brazil mainly in Favela a district where many shanty towns are and where majority of the crime waves in Brazil as a whole originate from. It is said that it takes place about 12 years after the events of Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne and Max has become a broken man, no family, no significance to the world, no money, and no sanity. He has become an alcoholic and he has a very bad addiction to pain killers (we saw this in the past MP's). It is said that sometime after the end of MP2, Max  faded from NYC and moved to Brazil to escape the wretched NYPD and all the corruption New York City had placed on him, unfortunately he only finds himself at rock bottom as he arrives in his new home country and is then swept into a new underworld of crime and bloodshed. They knew very little about the main story but from Rockstar told them personally is that Max has been working for undercover unit called "Private Security"and finds himself knowing things he should have never known. They also said that they have stuck to the core gameplay mechanic that all near and dear lovers of the franchise are used to but also implemented a spice of there own similar to GTA IV. Max can now jump, vault, climb, hold hostage, shoot on his back from the ground, shoot while prone or whilst getting up, and even f*ckING TAKE COVER!! They also stated that Max is THE most dynamic character Rockstar will have built to date more dynamic than Niko. And they also remastered the bullet time feature to new heights desribing a new presicion and adrenaline mode that Max will enter if he kills someone who was just about to finish his health bar (killing him) in the head, along with it being even SLOWER!, the game is running on the RAGE engine and is also running with the euphoria engine.

If you say this game wont get over a 7.0 you might just be eating your words come this Winter..... MAX IS BACK! devil.gif (violins play) lol

Tbh, I`ve never played the originals, so I`ll be approaching this without prejudice. From what I`ve heard so far it sounds like a good game, definitely on the wanted list. Hope they make the enemies a bit more dynamic too.

To people who are telling us to stop winning and etc..

We are not saying the game will be bad, we are saying the its not a Max Payne game. New York wasn't just a setting but a mian character in it self. Remove that dark errie and gritty atmosphere and you remove apart of Max Payne.

Max Payne was one of the very few games where I gave a f*ck about the story line, because for once it was interesting. The whole noir backgrond felt like a breath of fresh air. Without it Max Payne would of just been like any other generic 3rd person shooter. Which right now looks like it has become cryani.gif

Sure its good for bit of change but to completely change the whole of paynes world just makes it a different game. Its just using the Max Payne name to get more money. Its like if in the next splinter cell they gave you a minigun and you just mowed down your foes. It would suck since stealth is a key feature of the game as New York was to Max Payne.

Its like if in the next splinter cell they gave you a minigun and you just mowed down your foes. It would suck since stealth is a key feature of the game as New York was to Max Payne.

And your whining and bitching is pointless. You know very little about the game especially not enough to say it isn't Max Payne just because it isn't in NY. That is damn near retarded. What kind of sense does that make? Almost every franchise rather it be video games, movies, books or tv shows branch out into other areas as staying in the same place will sooner or later get boring. Yes there is millions of stories in NY but there is millions of stories in other cities as well. Not to mention you guys are going is dissing the game just by what little you've read and seen. For all we know there will be segments where Max could possibly have a storyline in NY in flashbacks or maybe he even travels back to NY. Probably 1% is known about this game and you guys are acting like 99% is known about it.

Sao Paulo is 10 times worse then NY in terms of crime, corruption, poverty and pretty thing anything else as I said before so replacing NY is not the worse thing possible. The game looks gritter in the daylight then Max Payne 1 and 2 did the whole game at night time. You will be playing in a true urban gangland. Do you know how favellas operate? It's NY underworld times 100. You have the drug barons, the violent gangs, a true sense of hopefulness and that's just the favella. Then Sao Paulo is a huge and beautiful city that is full of corruption, violence, gangs and drug barons and is similar to NY so what are you really complaining about?

Then you are speaking on the storyline. You don't know a damn thing about the storyline and have not a single indicator that the Noir feel is gone yet you are complaing about the storyline and jumping to conclusions as if this game will have a bad one and remove things that made Max Payne Max Payne. It seems you guys are just crying for no real reasons other then the fact that you can bitch and moan. Also Max Payne 2 wasn't much of a seller so I doubt R* is really just trying to cash in on the Max Payne name as if it's some huge franchise when it's not. If that's the case the movie wouldn't have tanked because you can say all that tried to do was cash in on the Max Payne name. R* is giving the game a fresh new look that looks to be going in the right direction and you guys are complaing about it as if you know it's the wrong direction and you haven't even seen anything about the game really. Give the game a chance and let some more info trickle out before you start to grab the pitchforks and torches.

Speaking as a major Max Payne fanboy. I actually like the direction this Max Payne is going in. Sao Paulo sounds like a great location and quite frankly i like the other changes they are adding to the gameplay like the cover system and the inclusion of the RAGE and Euphoria engines. I just read the article Game Informer did on it and so far I'm liking the way Max Payne 3 looks so far. I'm just wondering what direction the story will go in and how/if will tie-in to the past ones.

True, but we will like it as a 'decent/good third person action shooter that took a bite out of Max Payne that isn't any Max Payne'.

That's how I look at it at the moment and I also think after I played the game. Max Payne is all about the brilliant Film Noire, flappy leather jacket, James McCaffrey, cinematic comics to tell the story...

Can anyone post up some high resolution scans that can be read properly?

Whenever I see the artwork for this game I start hearing Michael Ironside doing his Sam Fisher voice in the latest Splinter Cell Conviction. That's why people are unsure, this new game might be quite a great game but it just doesn't seem like it could be a great Max Payne enough to rival the first two games anyway. It is Rockstar here, and while to most it means we are dealing with a industry leading developer who can do no wrong but we all know they are not perfect and they can stuff this up.

Sergi you completely missed the f*cking point didn't you.

A Part of Max Payne is NY. His trade mark is the leather jacket and the colourful shirt. The whole point of the colourful shirt was to stick out agaisnt the Noir setting as it was a glimmer of colour. This very little details made max payne.

By all the information presented it doesn't look very noir due to many variety of colours and the day time setting confused.gif

Let me think what I want, I am going to remain as skeptical as f*ck espcially since the mian writer is absent.

To me New York is Max Payne. So no matter how awesome or good this game is it won't be a bloody Max Payne game. Do you understand now ? NON of us said the game will suck, we just saying its not friken Max Payne. New York was just as big togame as f*cking Max Payne was to the game. Get it ?

Well I myself am a New Yorker (From Queens) and I like many others is disappointed that my home city is not included in this installment but you have to understand the gravity of what has happened with your beloved title Max Payne....Max Payne is no longer being made by the people who made the master piece we all once knew, Remedy has been working on Alan Wake for for who knows how long , and 3D Realms is in a complete downfall. The titles original parents of have deserted it...but a ray of hope has gleamed upon this diamond in the rough. The games original caretaker and publisher Rockstar Games, saw a great deal of potential in this title and adopted it for themselves and for us it's fans. Unfortunately Rockstar is not Remedy or 3D realms, Rockstar is Rockstar and for this game not being made by its original creators means that it will be completely different in its own right. The max Payne we all once knew has died....but Rockstar is trying there hardest to resurrect it, So we all just have to be happy that we are having the privilege see this title go the distance or some could just say f*ck it let sleeping Max Payne lye..it's up to you. As for me this still looks like a max payne game, just because its not in NY and and Italian mafia isn't involved doesnt mean the Noir isn't there. Noir can be set in almost any setting, from the dark damp streets of London, to the colorful, bright, hot, humid, flashy streets of Las Vegas, to the shanty's of Iraq or Brazil. We all know Rockstar is a company of drastic change with almost all of there games but has it ever failed. The conversion of GTA LC to VC to SA and back to LC (HD) is a perfect example. Sure they were all set in completely different areas of the U.S. but it still stuck to its guns literally and figuratively. Its just harder to say that for this game because Rockstar themselves have never made a title like this before and are starting where one left off just like Red Dead Redemption. I think this game will be epic indeed
