To the people who are saying they should've shown more than gameplay footage; it WAS all in game.

Yeah, but it was mostly cutscenes.

Two more months. Sheesh.

... then wait for the gameplay series... there's everything in-game.

Just watched it and I need to wipe the white stain off my pants because that was AMAZING!! What an amazing game.

The only thing I'm worried about is how it seems as though Rodrigo Branco will be making most of the plot defining decisions and Max will just be his hired gun, because in the first two (especially the first one) it was basically Max making most of the choices. He wasn't the kind of guy to take orders.

In fact, I think Max is a little too trusting of Branco and his family, for people he's just met. He's not the kind of guy to trust people easily. There are few characters in the first games, its practically only Mona and Vlad to an extent. I'm trusting they won't change him too much.

I think the Branco family is a reflection of events from previous games. Max probably takes the kidnapping of Branco's wife very personally since he was not able to save his own wife or girlfriend in Max Payne 1 respectively Max Payne 2.

and @Snake Without a Tongue

Official R* trailers never includes in-game gameplay. There has already been two videos in the "Gameplay video series" and there is still two to go I think.

Cutscenes count as in-game footage if they aren't pre-rendered.

'fraid it's another one of R*'s bogus boasts. I think the proper term would be "All footage is in-engine." because that how the cutscenes are made.

"Countless combinations of loadouts" is another one.

I think it's usually safe to say that every time a gun is fired in the trailer, that's possibly in-game.

P.S. I found my Max Payne 2 disc! smile.gif

I have NEVER seen a commercial or trailer for a R* game that wasn't made up majorly of gameplay.

I think there is a confusion of "gameplay" and "in-game footage". Gameplay is what we see while we are playing the game. The other is everything else, cutscenes and the sort. I think that is right; at least that is what I mean by it.

The only difference between gameplay and what we see in the trailers (apart from cutscenes) is the camera angles.

That's it.

And now that I've played through the first game again, and am into the second, there's something that's always irked me about them. You can't walk.

It's in-game footage simply because it shows a few cinematic moments and angles, but the majority of the stuff we see in the trailer is actual gameplay. Thought it was obvious from the way the camera is angled whether or not it was gameplay, and even then the cinematic footage and gameplay look one in the same most of the time. Which is f*cking sweet.

I read an interview with one of Housers from 2009, it said that Mona won't even be mentioned. I hope they changed their minds.

I remember that too. Although it was a 2011 interview.

It was because they couldn't decide which ending was cannon and which non-cannon. Personally I would also prefer if they went with the original ending, because that would make even more sense why Max is so cynical and depressed in MP3.

I always figured it was a doomed relationship, anyway. Mona was a contract killer, and Max breaks the rules, but for the most part is a straight cop. Eventually Mona would have gotten a job where her and Max would be on opposing sides.

That said, I'd love for Mona to make an appearance. Maybe the situation I just described happens after the events of Max Payne 2, and Mona flees to Brazil unbeknownst to Max.

Mona lived on the Dead on Arrival difficulty tounge.gif.

I think Mona shall be dead though in MP3.

To get that ending, you have to finish the normal difficulty to unlock the harder difficulties, so everyone has seen Mona die but only half have seen Mona live. So if I had only beaten on normal and saw her running around in MP3, I'd be pretty confused. Everyone has to see Mona die in MP2 to unlock the harder modes so its painfully obvious which ending is canon:

The one where she dies. It also makes sense why Max is so depressed in this game and it would be really retarded if she just left.

I knew why Mona lived. sigh.gif

Oh, and regardless of difficulty, it's still part of the main storyline, and therefore canon. Hence why Rockstar probably aren't going to address it one little bit.

Though, she's an available skin for multiplayer if you get the Special Edition, so her model is in the game. ph34r.gif

One of the things that I am looking forward to the most is the physics of the world in which you play. Judging by the looks of it the game will feature the most advanced, true to life, realistic, and gut-wrenching gun violence to date. This is not something to be understated as someday the games will look just like real life and many people who don't play video games will either complain or join in. I think MP3 is kind of a bridge in the evolution of video game realism. Particularly with life like gun deaths. All I know is John Woo has his copy on hold.

There are heaps of games which give you a bonus, non canon happy ending like Fear Effect, Resident Evil and DMC3. I don't see why MP is any different. Plus, I highly doubt Mona could just walk off that bullet in the head so easily. And before you say anything about how we play as Mona and she survives multiple bullet wounds, remember that (RED REDEMPTION SPOILERS) John Marston dies at the end of RDR, despite the fact he could have taken them down at other times of the game.

I'm not sure how they're presented in those games, but usually these things are sectioned off as an "alternate ending" and left seperate. However in Max Payne 2, it is presented as a canonical ending when you finish the story. It isn't a bonus, it's just as plausible as the other ending, regardless of Mona's injuries.

Well, the happy ending in Fear Effect is also presented canonically and its f*cking retarded.

On the "Hard" difficulty setting, a third option will become available: spare the lives of both Glas and Hana. In this ending, the pair emerge from the smoldering wreckage of the brothel, where they find a befuddled Deke sitting on a toilet. Deke has no memory of being killed, believing he has taken a bump to the head, and asks how they made out on the "deal". As he hoists himself out of the pit, Glas is stunned to realize that his left arm has been completely restored. The three partners walk off into the sunrise to continue their exploits

Its true, I've played the game. Its presented in the storyline like MP and obviously isn't canon.

I do see what you're saying and I get it because MP2's is much more believable than others, but it still isn't canon. And you could count the harder difficulties as a bonus because you unlock them once you beat the game on normal.

Not sure why you're still discussing other games when it clearly varies depending on the game, but really, it doesn't matter, because we don't decide what is canon. That, and let's face it, it probably won't be mentioned.

What my argument comes down to is this:

Person A plays through MP2 on normal difficulty and sees Mona die. They then stop playing and don't realize there's another ending. They then gets MP3 and sees Monarunning around and is thinks "wtf, didn't she die?". They are then confused as f*ck.

I bet quite a few people would have seen both endings but absolutely everyone who completed MP2 at least once would have seen the normal ending.

But I do see what you mean. Either ending could be canon, its just that the normal one is more likely.
