these archives consist entirely of beta props:

i think the Train station in NY was part of the CO-OP levels that were planned.

bc in the .XML file of that props, the map folder was called something like: "c_ny".

and the shooting thing from the beta Psycho appartment is also still in the files.

btw: i think the Roscoe station map from one of the Multiplayer DLC maps waas a part of the Trainstation map.

and bc there is a door with a closed and open variation in the files that leads to a train station undergrounds probably

He is definitely in the list of levels for normal multiplayer modes.

There are some leftovers from the Funhouse level too, but some have been replaced with Cemetery assets. It would have been really interesting to see Max Payne 2's Funhouse in MP3.

Small change but in that video from Ben Stevens, you can see the Comando Sombra were originally called Comando Sombre.

That's probably a translation error/placeholder of sorts, there are some still in the final game too.

Surprisingly, it's still pretty active. Actually I just realized I don't find sessions 'cause everyone has DLCs I don't have

Is this on PC? If it's still active, then that's great! The game had some seriously fun multiplayer. That was basically my go-to back in the summer of 2012, it was a lot of fun.

Playing on PS3, but yeah, it's very active, also on Social Club - got 2 crew invites in 3 hours of playthrough, and a lot of messages and friend requests

 

Think it's still pretty active on other  platforms considering Xbox One's backward compatibility and well, PC gamers don't have to deal with generation differences like console gamers do

 

Not gonna buy the DLCs now 'cause I have 2 PSN accounts, and I'll buy them on the "serious" one. This one is only to test things out and learning some stuff - never been into multiplayer before

So evidently, as discovered by this thread (where I thought this artwork was going to turn out to be early concept art for GTA IV), Max Payne 3 was originally going to be set in Russia.

 

Here's some of the first concept art for the game, done around 2005-2006

According to the artist, this was Rockstar Vienna's vision for Max Payne 3. When Vienna was shut down in 2006, Max Payne 3's development went to Rockstar North, and they turned it into the game we have now. I wonder if the story would have followed the same path with organ harvesting, or if it was gonna be something completely different. I could see the Butcher being involved with organ harvesting (maybe an Artur Fischer type of character who's involved with harvesting organs on the side of his legit business, except he's a butcher instead of a cosmetic surgeon). Maybe the Angel would be Victor Branco, and Boris would be Passos or DaSilva.

That's so cool! I wonder how different the game would've been if it was set in Russia. Off-topic but does anyone know any lines Max says in MP3 that are unused or rare? I just really like the dialogue in the game.

i found some test stuff in the files at the path: "pc\levels\s_fashion\props\fs_gen.rpf\"

 

these seem to be for emissive shader tests.

there is also one setup for night and strong.

Interesting! Unless that press room was supposed to be in the stadium somewhere, maybe a TV station was going to be a level at some point. Especially with the "6 Canaleta" ("Channel 6") logo everywhere.

seems like the press room in still in the game.

but HEAVILY changed.

in the files that "station" in which Passos takes the sniper and gives you cover, is in the files called pressroom, and i guess the thing before that with the hallway was the one in the picture.

you can see that same hallway in the beta picture too.

i tried to re-do the picture, but either they played with the FOV or they made it more at the front.

Wow, that's definitely it. In the first picture, you can even see the corridor that leads downstairs beyond the doors. The layout it the same, but the designs changed a lot. I'm curious as to how much other levels might have changed, and if images of them still exist in the files.

Also, on the left is a placeholder ad, there's a huge red bar saying LEGAL that is still present in some texture files in the final game. I don't remember which file it is, but there's a texture full of real life ads saying "LEGAL" on them.

the game has always been underrated. I still thnk that, even 7 years after release, it is the best TPS out there.

Avoid the Multiplayer DLCs. Not only is the MP probably dead, if it's not, it's most likely populated in stupid autoaim lobbies (which exist on PC), and the multiplayer is an unbalanced mess and grind anyway. Would not recommend it to anyone.

 

Edit: Forgot to look at the date lol. But yeah, MP3's MP sucks.

well...one of the DLCs adds challange mode to the SP.

and with all DLCs you can mod the most.

Me and my friend were talking about what potential spin-offs that R* could. I had an idea where you could play as Max's dad. For those not familiar in the graphic novel that was for MP3 we learn that Max's dad Jack was a soldier in Vietnam. He was on the frontlines and suffering from some sort of ptsd. Unfortunately the man was a mean bastard who took out his anger on his wife. My friend said it would be kind of silly if was he dodging bullets in the air but that it might work if he was a special forces. Any thoughts?
