Murcchachosa
Thanks to R* Toronto for the most horrible coded/ported game ever. And not to forget, the MP protection. And sending to C++ or ASI authors for the requests not to make the ASI plugins compatible for MP. That proves the horrible job. The first negative post but its true. emcax24
GTA III, VC and SA only had 1 patch (I think that III and VC didn't even had one, this one has 3 now, meaning and showing that they DO care about PC gaming and they still want their game to run as better as possible. there was 2 patches for SA, and 1 patch each for gta3 and VC. the reason was they had better quality control back then. those patches were minor fixes. on SA one was to fix the mouse sensitivity being too high. they didnt need whole engine rewrites like this game. No they didn't need to rewrite the GTA SA game engine because it was already as unoptimised as it could get when you consider it needed a PC 10 x more powerful than the PS2 to run the game at the same settings. Paule888
I want to thank R* for: -bringing GTA4 to PCs. -the great mission design -the million possiblities you have in GTA -the big city and so forth. And: @R*: What I thank you most for, is the last patch. Go on with the patches! You make the game better with every patch. And please, bring the DLC-addon to us PC-gamers. livilaNic
- thanks for offering me a job in 2003, but I was on my way to LA instead. '03 you say? Guess it's just like the 80s for some. Just can't let it go. I love to hate R*. The game on the other hand kicks ass! I haven't been able to play through any game (mass effect, assassin's creed, bioshock, etc) more then once. IV however, I've played many times over. I just love the way they do it. Maybe not so much the scripted missions, but the freedom and cruising around jamming tunes. And of course plowing people down. Lyrkin
I bought this game....couldn't run it... Bought a video card (radeon hd 3450) Then had to buy a new psu (465w) Could play the game...but serious issues.. Then came patch v3...removed reflections and whoa !! Holy crap...a game to bring me back to the seat...3am's and still playing.. w00t Thanks Rockstar !! Many difficulties..but with your third patch I'm runnin sweet (single core no less) Can't say enough about games that give you freedom to play however you feel.. For those having issues..hang in there..takes some tweaking with some systems but it's worth it.. System test told me 'close but no cigar'....nice try system test... GTA_Godfather
While I'm happy the game came to the PC, it was about what I expected. (BTW, I never had a doubt it would come to the PC. They spent way too much developing the game for the consoles and essentially 99% of the work was done....and we all know R* primary interest is the $$$, right?) It looks, tastes, and smells like a port, much like previous GTAs. Clearly, it was designed around the consoles as DML wrote. Is it better than the console versions? Yes, by a large margin. The visuals and performance can smoke them easily on a more than capable PC. Personally, I haven't had any issues installing or running the game, though I wish the performance was better. Is there are a lot of room for improvement yet? Absolutely. As a console game, I'm sure this game rocks, because expectations for console gamers are much lower and they are easily "wow'd". But as a PC gamer I can't help but feel this game was crafted in the same mold as previous GTAs. It has that feel. It's more evolutionary than revolutionary. There are a lot of annoying bits that remind me of previous GTAs (AI, poor performance, no AA, etc.) Had R* used the PC as the lead platform, we could have had a much better GTA IV. IF GTA is to truly separate itself from past GTA ports and match PC standards that other games have obtained, they need to fully leverage the capabilities of the PC platform. It will never do that while it's designed around the consoles (inferior gaming devices that have severe limitations). Until it does, we'll have to settle for something that underachieves due to limitations imposed by the console-centric development, since R* is primarily concerned with profits/money. TheRealPcGamer
Everything is fine on GTA IV, but I just a little disappointed with its ultra-high PC requirements. But I think everyone has a good computer now, so it's not a problem.
CharmingCharlie
^ wot GTA_Godfather said Oops I am going to have to give myself a verbal warning for that . BTW GTA_Godfather it is good to see you posting again. I love GTA 4 I am still playing it today 4 months later, it is shrunk down to the task bar right at this moment and I will be back to playing it again in a minute. As GTA_Godfather said GTA 4 is pretty much what "realisitic" people expected, could it be better ? well duhhh. My own personal view is that Rockstar Toronto did a hell of a better port than Rockstar North have ever done. Especially when you consider that GTA SA needed a PC 10 times more powerful than the PS2 just to run the game at PS2 settings. So GTA 4 may not be perfect, Rockstar Toronto may have slipped up here and there and Rockstar North really couldn't give a f*ck about you. However I certainly appreciate such a fantastic game on the PC and therefore I appreciate Rockstar Toronto bringing the game to us since Rockstar North could't be arsed. DML
Yes, GTA_Godfather, basically my thoughts exactly. ...and CC: yes, 'Toronto is definitely the team which has done the hard yards with the PC version of GTA IV. 'North is going to be becoming dumber and dumber as they continue to stray from real PC game development, and focus their efforts on developing games (of the type which works best on the PC) for console. If the current trend continues, I'm predicting that we'll see the GTA titles slowly morph into True Crimes and Saint's Rows etc - only carrying the once-famous and once-respected name "Grand Theft Auto". My biggest issue with regard to the PC port of GTA IV (and I'm sure it's the most common issue) IS the one of performance. It's not the graphics, as they're not all that great by today's standards, it's all the unnecessary things like having traffic appearing multiple city blocks away from where you're standing. Geometry not being correctly culled, and not implementing proper level-of-detail changes in models and textures. The root of the performance issues stem from the game's lack of optimization and correct use of both system and video memory, and the difference in CPU architecture between PC and console. As stated previously: if developed from day-1 as a PC game (or even cross-platform) all these problems would've been solved as I believe Rockstar North still knows how to make a good PC game...they just don't seem to want to. SandmanX
Dear Rockstar, Thank you for - * the GTA series itself. From the very first one till present-day's GTAIV despite its issues. * the Max Payne series and introducing bullet time. * terrific voice acting, plot & storyline in all your games. * giving us endless hours of entertainment, replay value and fun with your in-game sandbox environments. * not forgetting about us GTAIV PC users. * soldiering on and actually bothering to listen to our complaints here. * releasing patches to optimize GTAIV ever so slightly yet steadily. You're getting there. * not abandoning your responsibility to improve your games with patches etc. * keeping it real and not succumbing to capitalist software companies which care more about profit (read: EA). * injecting lots of humour in your games. Extremely rare for a game to make me laugh but you do it all the time. * just being uber cool Rockstar. With that being said, I truly hope you will finally streamline GTAIV so we can play it without getting pissed after ten minutes. We're expecting a total revamp of the coding (it's a CPU whore now) so don't disappoint us. We still love you but I'm sure you understand why we're upset. Ardbug
I may actually have something positive to say ... I disagree when people say the GTAIV graphics are bad, I find them extremely beautifull, I dont care at all about AA and fancy textures, I care about immersion and variety/creativity, and in that regard I can only think of one game that beats GTA IV and thats Stalker, Liberty City has more immersion and personality in any backalley in Broker than most games have in their entire gameworld ..... including expansions. I agree...damn Stalkers graphics are amazing though. so are IV's..R* should've included a static lighting option like Stalker as they both use Differed Lighting which is pretty demanding (and I don't see the point of differed lighting as it just looks like normal dynamic lighting) I dunno though. GTA games have always managed to look good. SA still looks good with lotsa AA and a high resolution to me. granted I don't want to play SA now that I have IV

CharmingCharlie
I am overall content with the way Rockstar Toronto have supported the PC. The game can always be better and it is excellent to see they are still supporting the game 4 months later. This is in total contrast to the way Rockstar North treated the PC, they released GTA SA that needed a PC 10 x more powerful than the PS2 to run it at the same settings as the PS2 and they did one patch which was to lock out the hot coffee hack. I understand that Rockstar Toronto are still supporting the PC and we have many things to look forward to in the coming months. I have had hundreds of hours of fun on this game and I can see myself playing GTA 4 to death just in time for the next instalment which I hope is done by Rockstar Toronto again. DML
...next instalment which I hope is done by Rockstar Toronto again. I understand the important role that continuity plays for a team of developers who's job it is to tinker with a sub-par 3D game engine which has been narrow-mindedly developed for use only on console, but I don't know why you are putting down Rockstar North so much. Sure, Rockstar North aren't developing for the PC. They didn't even bother to give decent ports of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas. But they are the group formerly known as DMA Design - responsible for developing GTA 1 for PC and GTA 2 for PC. The common enemy is Rockstar Games, and, last time I checked, Rockstar Toronto was a part of that group. Now, if Rockstar North being part of the Rockstar Games pansy-pack and following Dan Houser's demands makes them evil to PC gamers, then by that same logic, Toronto should be no different, it's just that they were instructed by the Houser twats to throw together a PC version of GTA IV. EVEN TODAY! Rockstar Games are churning out next to no PC games at all. As far as I know, Max Payne 3 is the only one on the horizon...and that WAS a PC franchise to begin with! They obviously thought Bully was such a sh*t port that their website's summary game list doesn't even mention a PC version. It's all about sh*tty ports and sh*tty deals with Rockstar, and it'll never change while those sh*tty sh*thead sh*t-eaters are at the controls - Dan and Sam Houser... the Houser TWATs. ThatsCool
Thank you Rockstar for porting this game for PC even when it has many bugs. You see that your new RAGE engine is much harder to port to the PC than the Renderware Engine. Now you know what you did wrong with this port. Lets hope that GTA 5 or whatever its called will be better ported than GTA IV Greetz

GTA_Godfather
I tend to side with DML on this one. Make no bones about it, the PC is still an afterthought for R* and the Housers. They go for the easy money (and have since III) by selling out to MS and Sony. Having R* Toronto handle the port simply gave their R* North studio free hands to work on more important things. Releasing a PC version had everything to do with the money and nothing to do with any sort of loyalty or interest in PC gaming. It was a no brainer for a big-budget title that has always gotten good reviews on the PC despite all of the issues. I've said this from the getgo. Clearly, the console-centric nature of this game has a negative impact on the PC version. R*'s attitude and tone towards PC gamers has not changed. Let's not forget the 6 month delayed PC release and the embargo on all information PC related as it pertained to GTA IV. Think about all that we had to endure. We still have the scars on our backs from the knife. As DML mentioned, there's not much to look forward to on the PC with R* games. In a nutshell, it's the same as it ever was. Waynio
Just in case I have not posted on this subject yet . Great job on the 1.0.3.0 patch, glad to see it is being supported properly . No more running out of video memory & can use the auto settings @ 1920x1200 and just tone the view distance down to 20 detail distance down to 60 vehicle density 40 shadow density to 10 and everything else on max and runs really smooth nearly all of the time on single player so the single player experience has been getting better and better with the newer patches. Thankyou Rockstar Torronto . Still a bit more to do thou before it is perfect, MP anti-cheating being top of my list, it is good it has been made to not allow modified files but what about modified memory like how a trainer works, would be nice to know I could play online without being suspicious of people cheating. And since I have completed the SP quite a lot of times, I am now gunning for fastest story completion time lol.
