Zybba
@The_Cheese_Man If you want to be sure that you have your savegame save it first yourself... Do you have Vista? I have only this guide: GTA IV Savegame Backup Vista Guide 1. First you need to back up two folders, the first folder is your Rockstar games folder (which contains the save games) and the second folder is your xlive folder which contains ... well god knows but you need it anyway. 2. You can find your Rockstar folder here C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games <- copy that folder somewhere safe. 3. You can find your xlive folder here C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive <- again back up that folder. 4. After you have formatted and reinstalled the game simply copy those folders back to where they should be overwriting the folders that are there. 5. Now run the game and press "HOME" in-game to sign-in from XLive. Choose your old nick when signing-in. Don't make new account or your save file won't load. 6. After signing-in, play the game and it will load your save file automatically. But if you have XP you must search... There is a FAQ thread with the description for Xp too. Patrickadizzle
Still cant figure out my random FPS drops I will be going 45-50 fps smooth then all the way down from 10-20, for like 20 seconds, then shoots back up. Temps on GPU and CPU are fine, I lowered settings are the problem seemed like it went away, but no. Defragged HDD TOO
Void(null)
Ok, update on the Crash on load issue It seems STEAM is at fault here. The Update version that steam is auto installing is corrupt, and the root of the crash on load issues. Downloading from Rockstar and installing the patch from them corrects this issue. So not happy with Valve right now...
cqdemal
I think Steam's not quite ready for this new update. I tried verifying the game cache after installing the patch through GFWL and Steam reverted my game to 1.0.2.0.
IronFixXxeR
If you have FPS loss check your v-sync. I had mine turned off before I installed the patch and the new patch turned it back on again. It could be limiting your FPS to match your refresh rate.

eXs-jack
I'm running the retail version of GTA:IV. I've had no problems prior to this patch, but now i've started to experience lock-ups or what appear to be the symptoms of a memory leak. The game loads up fine, but after less than 5minutes of play the game begins to lock up. For example, i'm currently doing the Most Wanted missions with the Police Patrol cars, but when i get into a police car and press LB (left-shoulder button) nothing happens. Also, as i drive round the textures and objects begin to either lower themselves to 'far distance' detail or disappear altogether - it looks a bit like playing GTA3 on the playstation2, with a scratched CD, so that the information cannot be loaded fast enough. The game begins to lock up after a small amount of driving around or whenever i pause the game. There are a few small stutters (maybe 1 to 2 seconds) which are followed by either a longer stutter (upto 40 seconds) or a terminal stutter, resulting to closing GTA via the task manager or simply restarting the computer. If the game does revive itself and recovers from the stutter it will carry out the operations that i was attempting to do before the lock-up (e.g. the Police Computer screen will appear even if i'm currently driving along, or, if i've tried to bring up the mobile phone, niko will appear to be walking around with an invisible phone in his hand, but no mobile phone will appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.) I've completely uninstalled the game (after backing up my saved games) and then reinstalled via the direct download from the rockstar patch website; I've cleaned up and installed the latest gfx drivers (9.3 ati catalyst drivers); I've tried using MemTurbo to recover memory, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas? Or is this simply going to be a case of waiting for Rockstar to release another patch to fix this problem, along with the other problems that people seem to be experiencing? cheers benchmark worked fine, here are the results: StatisticsAverage FPS: 51.67Duration: 36.00 secCPU Usage: 92%System memory usage: 45%Video memory usage: 85%Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 1280 x 1024 (60 Hz)Texture Quality: MediumTexture Filter Quality: HighView Distance: 24Detail Distance: 36HardwareMicrosoft Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 3Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Video Driver version: 6.14.10.6925Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio outputIntel Pentium III Xeon processor system specs below: Edited March 21, 2009 by eXs-jack

kasakka
Some questions: Do SINGLEPLAYER mods still work? For example I've got the Realistic Handling mod, some gun texture mods, ingame trainer etc. I don't play multiplayer so it's all just for my own amusement. Does XLiveless still work with this version? I reinstalled Windows and don't feel like reinstalling GTAIV (works fine with XLiveless) and I certainly don't want that useless Rockstar Social Club.
