Spider-Vice Posted April 4, 2009 Share Posted April 4, 2009 This game is Bull s h i t. I run a quad and i had no probs until i put patch 1.3 in. I wasted hours with command line BS. I t is not the system it is the port. Thanks for selln me a beta and patchin it 3 times. Ill admit with patch 3 i upgraded my drivers to no help if i install the game and patch till 1.2 it runs great. But patch 1.3 with in 1-2 min it chops or stutters or what ever u wanna call it. Most forum questions are never answerd by r o ck star. but are answerd by peeps spending hours to fix there own probs. then postin fixes . So cheers to them . Not beta, but maybe poorly "ported" from XBox360 as textures and such are equal. But I won't say it's a crappy port, neither saying it wasn't made from ground up, I love the game and I don't think it's a... CRAPPY port it's because... All PC games that were on consoles before were ported. SA was ported, VC was ported, III was ported, 2 was ported, LCS was ported but improved, etc. The patch and the game performed very well with my PC but only after some overclocking on the GFX. thales100 Posted April 5, 2009 Share Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) I wonder why R* hasnt fixed the contrast and brightness options in this patch, they are obviously swapped, when you adjust the contrast youre in fact adjusting brightness , thats ridiculous. Edit: Well im not 100% sure this wasnt fixed, im running a version translated to portuguese and the options are still swapped but may be some mistake in the translation. Uxot Posted April 5, 2009 Share Posted April 5, 2009 yeah right gj rockstar of course.. since i got 1.3 its unplayable lost at least 20 fps..of course no more "cheats" but its the returns of dmers that kill for no reason..i prefer 1.2 for mods while playing private with friends doing awsome hot pursuits with cops skins + the first person driver mod!! ..for now this is the worst patch ever in PC gaming history 1.2 was rly great for performance now i have a 50 $ game that i will play very rarely gj. hope AT LEAST and IF 1.4 will fix the performance problem...if not.. There's nothing wrong with the translated version Thales. The Entries Brightness, Contrast and Saturation were correctly translated... I just checked. Anyway... Skins and other visual modifications don't harm anyone... Of course skins matter. If a person creates a skin with a 0% opacity, then he would be invisible, giving a huge advantage. RealSamFisher Posted April 5, 2009 Share Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) I hope they work at a new pacth because I got big problems with the new one (1.0.3.0). I even cannot play the SinglePlayer. If I push the key "Escape" -normally you have a screen with the map of Liberty City and lots of options above it- I get a black screen and have to restart the PC. I have also got problems in the first cutscene of the game. When Niko meets Roman their voices cuts of and when they want to go into the car in the cutscene, the cutscene cancel and I am in front of the ship. But I am not in the taxi. I can go whereever I want. If the cutscene cancel there are no persons or cars on the street. If I cancle the cutscene at the beginning with the key "Enter" then I am in the taxi and can drive Roman to the flat. On the way the game starts stattering with auto settings. Maybe I should defrag my harddisk. i could try it. When I installed the patch (1.0.3.0) I got black screens for a few seconds. The game is hanging on and after this few seconds I can continue playing. But it was worse to die in MultiPlayer Matches while i have this black screens. So I contact the Take2 Support of Germany and they give me some solutions for my problems. I should update all drivers and softwares and reinstall GTA IV. I have done that all. And what I get are the problems I have explained you above this text. I have contacted the support again and I am waiting for the next solutuion for my problems. What I didn't want to hear is reinstall OS or GTA IV. I have done this several times. The strange thing is, that I haven't got problems with the old Patch (1.0.2.0). I would prefer the old Patch but I am playing Online so I have to install this Patch (1.0.3.0). I can see that the performance is better but with this problems the game is unplayable because it can end with only one and I think IMPORTANT KEY! "ESCAPE" means for me end of the game and restart the computer. I want to play the game and get some achievments. But I cannot play after problems are fixed. Yeah, if you want to smash someone with a gun (like the cops done it to you if you're near with him), stand near a person, then hold the 'ESC' button. RealSamFisher Posted April 5, 2009 Share Posted April 5, 2009 The problem is not only the "Esc" button which is annoying me. It's the stuttering in the game, too. The reason why I think the "Esc" button is so important is, because there are the whole settings of the game and I think you can use the navigation only there when you have the whole map. But the main problem is this stuttering. I knew this problem from the Patch (1.0.1.0). After (1.0.2.0) all was ok and I could play, but the performance wasn't good. Yes, thats true, the contrast and brightness options are in fact swapped, or the contrast control slider is "reversed" - dont know wich one is the dumbest issue. t0nedude Posted April 6, 2009 Share Posted April 6, 2009 Well I just have to say that the latest patch (1.0.3.0) has blown me away. I'm running a Quadcore with a GTX260 (896MB) and could run it on high textures pre 1.0.3.0 patch, but the game started exhibiting some pretty nasty stuttering after 10 mins and made the game a nightmare to play. Dropping it to medium sorted the problem. I have always thought this was due to bad optimization issues, and was proven correct with this latest patch, which now seems to solve it. The game now DEFAULTS to high textures on my system (which is what it should have done with a GTX260) and the game is much more consistent and responsive. It feels like I am playing a different game: the one it should have been when it first came out for pc. This is at a resolution of 1920x1200, and even tearing along downtown algonquin in the vegas strip with all the animated billboards in a Banshee, was an experience, instead of a stuttering nightmare. Lol tony dont say that, its absolutely embarassing man, i im also on Vista + GTX280, and it doesnt matter ok , you must update the dx with all revisions, specially to run a dx9 game like GTA 4, as the march 2009 revision is focused on dx 9.0c .
