Captain Perverto
Is it possible to remap walk forward with the right mouse button with this new patch? That's how I've always played the previous games and I don't understand why it won't let you do that. Wait, are you serious? You walk forward... With the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON? It would at least make sense if you bound Right Mouse Button to the SPRINT function, as in other titles like Assassin's Creed. I can't, however, think of any PC game released in the past 3 years that utilized the Right Mouse Button as a movement key. Also, I'm disappointed to learn that this new patch won't work with the Ultimate Blur Tweak. Yes, in most games whether FPS or third person I use the right mouse button to walk, and the middle to walk backwards. That way all my movement is controlled by the mouse aside from strafe (A & D) and sprint (RShift). So then I usually use S for action, W usually nothing unless there's some special feature depending on the game, and Z for zoom. I've used a similar setup for Assassin's Creed as well. I had to make it a little different but the movement with the mouse is pretty much the same. But the point is in most games you can pretty much set any button or key to any function, but this one you can't. Last time I remember you not being able to do it like that was back in the Wolfenstein 3D days, although Rise of the Triad and Duke Nukem 3D you could, and that's where my preference pretty much started, and that was about 16 years ago. Hard to break old habits.
Vicetopia
Hmm, I typically use Right Mouse for forward also... I played GTA4 using the standard WASD though. What a pain.
IDDQD
I've installed the patch yesterday and like some others my game crashes after the loadscreen and loading my last savegame. I've updated the NVIDIA drivers but that did not make a difference.. Maybe I've missed the solution in the 40 pages of this thread.. but I 'd really like to see a solution.. Ok now seriously, a little question to Rockstar Toronto: since hacking is back, will you improve your anti-cheating feature in a next patch? Or take any serious action, like serial banning? I know this is about patch 3, but I can't take these questions out of my mind, so maybe R* Toronto will actually take a look here and see them... PS: You can now read the latest news on the streets without going to the Internet. Just stop by one of those screens with the rolling words (dunno how they're called) and you'll see some news. francomg
I'm reading so many folks complaints, I can't understand, I'm not sure everyone here has the retail version. This new patch did wonderfull thing to this game. Rockstar you have to agree with me on that, you guys actually released the game last friday, not december 2008. I had a terrible time playing this game before this patch. I could play for only two hours without crashing with textures at medium and only 60% of memory usage. If I used textures high and 90% memory usage I would crash with the out of video memory issue in 30 minutes of game play, it was so damn annoying this error. Many times I would have the GTA IV has stopped working issue at least 2 out of 4 times I played the game. I have a high end PC that could handle this game, QX9650 and GTX 280, but before this patch I had a hard time playing teh game with so many issues and slow downs. Since I installed this new patch, all, I mean all the issues are gone, specially the memory leak issue. I can play how many hours I want without crashing. The graphics optimization is quite amazing, you can't even think about comparing this game to the consoles versions. I can see the city from any place in the map and there are lots of addictions to the scenarios. Before I would see the sea, but not the buildings and stuff from some parts of the town, there were missing textures. I now see new effects in the lights, newspapers flying, the people's expressions during dialogs are so real now. Before this patch I could not notice a big difference from textures at high from medium, now the difference is quite amazing. The game runs very smoothly and with textures at high and 95% of memory usage I can play without any issues with an average of 45fps. The game is f*cking awesome now. Good job Rockstar you owned us a patch like that and you did a terrific job, the game is totally playable now. But I must say I am impressed with the modifications this patch brought to this game, the graphics are impressive. Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!! Btw, the game is not SLI compatible, I tried enabling it but there was no fps gain and the game lags quite frequently with SLI enabled. Its definatelly better to keep it disable so the game play is way smoother. Edited March 24, 2009 by francomg
Hotballs69
This patch gave me a performance boost. I puchased the pc version while my tv was being repaired. I got my 1080p tv back last weekend and I still play on the pc because the graphics are so much better. The game works great for me, I'm in multiplayer for hours with zero issues. Paule888
Firstly, thank you very much for the patch. I gained a lot of performance. But is it possible that there is still some performance-potential in the game? What I noticed since patch3: I have a Dualcore-CPU. My 1st core gets 69°C warm when playing GTA4. The 2nd one gets 63°C warm. That means the second core is not fully loaded. Moreover, my graphics-card gets 75°C warm. Before patching to patch3, it only got 60° warm (that means the GFX is used more than before, very good R* ). I think there is still some potential in the game and could be made available in Patch4. madman_mars
My issue since the patch install - Every time I get into a car, I can go for about 20 seconds before the game freezes. When I press Alt+Tab I can't see the task manager. The screen is frozen in-game, but I can see the standard non-game mouse pointer moving around. The game is also really choppy, settings are at default. It feels like I've got a lot slower computer. I've already removed & re-installed the game, renewed back to patch 1.0.3.0. Same result. truehighroller
Updated my ATI Catalyst drivers to 9.3. The game works better, the fps is relatively smooth on medium graphics (that's still worse than the performance I had with 1.0.2.0) BUT every once in a while the game freezes, I get a black screen for a couple of seconds (the music keeps playing while the video is frozen) and then it goes back normal and I can continue to play. It mostly happens while I drive around in a car, although once it happened when I pressed escape to go to the menu. Sometimes it doesn't happen for 10-20 minutes, sometimes it happens every 30 seconds. Good luck on winning a multiplayer race... PC specs: ATI Radeon 4870 1GB, AMD Phenom 4x 2,6 GHz, 4GB Ram, XP SP3. Can somebody help? I was getting the same issue and I have the same vido card as you. I turned my fan settings up on my 4870 to like 55% and now the issue has gone away. I think the GPU was just over heating a little. Hope this helps you. I am still getting this issue still as well and I apologize. Rockstar you have another issue to resolve. EDIT: I edited my signature so no one wonders what I am running this on. Edited March 25, 2009 by truehighroller
john88z
OK, I gave the patch a try. Reinstalled the game, applied new drivers on the Win7. All in all, it seem like GTA IV would *like* to run better, but something is holding it back. I'll reinstall windows later this week and try everything afresh Can you please post back here with the results? I want to see if reformatting does help. Just did it at the beginning of this month. So not really looking forward to doing it again if it doesn't help any.

Tallerin
I'm loving this patch fixed all my major issues I was haveing. Got alittle FPS boost from it also running all maxed out. I hit 80-110FPS inside safe house and bounce around 45-60 FPS outside now. One thing that I have noticed today I played for 5 hours no crashes etc. I did experience 2 times were my game froze for about 5 secs and then resumed to normal play. Didn't get a black screen or anything just a 5 sec freeze. Leading up to the freeze my fps dropped to the low 20 then to 10 fps then froze and resumed back to normall 45-60 fps for about another 2 hours. Its almost as if the memory leak is there but the game clears the memory right at the last sec I dunno but its alot better then before. rig specs Amd Phenom II 940 @3.6 4 gigs ocz 1066 gtx 280 Vista x64
