Eoghan
Are we totally limited to one movie? Cause there's another I'd love to add, but I can't Indeed, I really hope someone nominates American History X. It's a great film, and should definitely be in this competition. papanesta
If we start to struggle, I'll allow second nominations for those that get in fast enough. However, there's still a few people I'd like to see nominate that haven't been in here yet. I feel we could easily get to 128 if I allowed multiple nominations... I mean, where's Blade Runner and so on?
Max
I'm begining to panic. An obscene number of great films aren't on there or have even had a mention.
darthYENIK
I say we wait a few days after we get 50, so we can really think about the selection and possibly veto some of them.
truthypants
I Nominate: American Beauty Because: It's beautiful and it's hilarious, a spectacularly good screenplay bolstered by an excellent cast (Kevin Spacey puts in a masterful performance – as is his wont – as do the supporting cast), great directing and cinematography - a near-faultless effort which I think fully deserves a nomination, at the very least. Ludo
I nominate: Jurassic Park Because: Epic/iconic theme song. It's got f*cking dinosaurs. It was great, had great characters, and I believe it was the first film to make me jump out of my seat from fright (which after all these years, I do not remember) And well of course, Ian Malcolm is fantastic. Must watch this again, has been a while
ToyMachine
I Nominate: Training Day Because: Great cinematography, great storyline, great characters. I had a couple movies in mind (a couple were named already) but this, like Fight Club, is a modern classic. Such a fantastic film. I Nominate: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels Because: Great lively cast. The characters serve their purpose wonderfully. Done in the typical Guy Ritchie fashion. Great story with a catch and great cinematography. Edited March 22, 2009 by ToyMachine
Andyzoot
I Nominate: Training Day Because: Great cinematography, great storyline, great characters. Guybrush Threepwood
I nominate: The Big Lebowski. Because: an excellent story, with a great soundtrack makes it all come together into one fan-f*cking-tastic comedy. Jeff Bridges portrays the Dude exactly as you'd expect the Dude to be in real life. Machida
Yojimbo has already been trumped by Seven Samurai and as much as I really, really wanted to nominate In Bruges, that choice would have probably sided on more personal tastes. Although this nomination is just as easy to make.. I nominate: Blade Runner Because: A misunderstood child when it first hit the cinemas, it's now firmly wedged as one of the top notch flicks. Visually it's a joy and the movies blend of sci fiction / film noir is just, well, cool. A feel that hasn't been replicated since. (It's in Belgium, by the way) Edited March 22, 2009 by Machida
Attorney General
I nominate: L.A. Confidential Because: It's the Chinatown of our generation. It's a modern classic littered with top notch actors who all seemed to, at least to me, deliver career performances. Suspenseful and clever, it's a film that makes you think...but not too much. The story, set in the 1950s, revolves around a shooting at the Night Owl coffee shop, and the film follows three detectives of the LAPD who all have a rooting interest in the shooting. It's full of twists and turns that keep the viewer enticed throughout. I'm begining to panic. An obscene number of great films aren't on there or have even had a mention. Hear that. We've got a bunch of sound nominations, but I'd still like to see Chinatown, Silence of the Lambs, Children of Men, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Dirty Dozen, Once Upon a Time in the West and City of God. Just putting them out there...
Stig
I Nominate: Reservoir Dogs Because: In my opinion, it's an amazing Tarantino film containing a classic story and classic characters that are not easily forgotten. Plenty of action and great scenes and twists, and plenty of ties to Pulp Fiction. There's also the famous ear scene, greatest movie scene I've ever seen. It's a classic American gangster film. All in all this is an amazing movie, therefor why I nominated it.

outcest
No offence enny, but I would so love to veto your nomination. Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. On that note, props for that Big Lebowski nomination.
Machida
Gah, it's mightily annoying when you've just realised you've forgotten about a movie right after you've made your own nomination. I suppose I can't mention it now for fear of influencing votes. Other than that the noms look good so far. Props to Max for choosing the only LOTR film I can stomach. The other two just make me mad. They make me mad Max. I'm glad you didn't mention them. Edited March 23, 2009 by Machida

Machida
Aye it's sweet paps. More than happy with Blade Runner. I think there's always going to be that feeling that you should have given more thought to something else regardless of what you nominate. But the arrival of my final cut blu ray copy will make petitioning it's case in the next round that bit easier. Looking forward to it!

papanesta
Well, original idea was 64. I'd go for 128, but I think that's a bit excessive. Somewhere in the middle would be nice, but it just doesn't work out.

Somewhere in the middle would be nice, but it just doesn't work out. Perhaps 100? A nice round, commanding number? There would be more then enough time left for people to nominate all those yet to be chosen classics. Also, it wouldn't take that long for 100 to be nominated seeing as how quick this topic is already progressing. I didn't think about the ramifications of having 100. 128 is much better.
