I'd like to know who the idiots are who think Fox doesn't have an agenda

Given that like half the clips in that video are from when Beck worked for CNN, it must be that Fox has a time machine to push their agenda. I guess they borrowed Karl Rove's.

People don't seen to get that Beck worked for CNN, it's where I developed my deep hatred for him. Glenn Beck doesn't represent the bias of Fox, he represents the fact that Beck is a lunatic wherever he is.

There is something off putting about Rick Sanchez, he's just some run of the mill family values type.

Rick Sanchez isn't an entirely left wing person. He does talk a lot about family values on his shows.. I watch him almost every day.

(I'm not saying that in an arrogant or insulting manner, I really AM curious. I've watched CNN for 2 or so years now, and have never seen Glenn Beck there)

Beck announced he was leaving CNN in October of '08, and started on Fox on January 19 of '09.

I'm basically saying 'look at these clips and see this crazy man. He is on Fox currently'; you're saying 'Some of those clips were on CNN, showing their Bias in the past', which is looking at the question in a more long-term fashion.

I'm not so much disagreeing with you as pointing out CNN was more than happy to keep him around while Bush was in the White House and there was still a reasonable chance McOldGuy could win the election. That he's not there anymore, and started his new gig on Fox the day before 0bama was inaugurated says nearly as much about CNN as it does Fox. tounge.gif

I TAKE HUGE EXCEPTION TO THIS

Rick is a f*cking lefty, and I will not try hiding that. He's never gone so far as to do the whole crocodile tears act, but he is certainly a lefty.

Yet, Campbell Brown and Anderson Cooper? Anderson won't even tell us his sexuality because 'HURR AS A REPORTER YOU HAVE TO KEEP OUT OF IT AND ONLY ACT AS EYES AND EARS TO EVENTS AND NEVER DRAW YOURSELF INTO IT TOTALLY NOT GAY'. I'd say they lean more to the left, but only because, quite honestly, they look the part, which is a blind assumption. But from my years (TWO WHOLE YEARS!) of watching CNN, I'd hardly call them biased. At least, not unreasonably.

Okay, maybe Brown isn't that bad. But Cooper, well, let's see.. Sneering jokes about "teabaggers," hour long gun-control specials full of Brady Campaign propaganda, countless show about how the world community or whatever need to help various poor countries, and how many environmental advocacy shows does he do a year? He may not come right out and announce he's an ideologue or partisan like Hannity or what have you, but unless you're drinking the same kool aid, his bias is painfully obvious.

I agree, actually. It's foolhardy to say that no one isn't at least somewhat biased. It's hard not to be. Unless you're analysts and reporters don't give a damn about politics and aren't Americans, they have an opinion. Either way, my vote still goes towards CNN.

Love me sum o' dat Fareed Zakaria. In the words of an acquaintance 'That niggas got it going ON'

Sure, CNN has Zakaria, Blitzer (who seems too confused by shiny objects to be able to form an opinion), and King. Fox has Cavuto, Smith (who's their village idiot like Blitzer tounge.gif), and Van Susteren. I'd say it's a draw.

Rick Sanchez isn't an entirely left wing person. He does talk a lot about family values on his shows.. I watch him almost every day.

Eh? So does the Working Families Party, who are an offshoot from SDS and the communist New Party.. moto_whistle.gif

Despite what people on TV say to put things into easily digestible sound bites, there is no contradiction between being "left wing" and talking about "family values." Marxism, which is as far "left" as one can go, is the apex of collectivist rebellion against the individualism of 19th century liberalism. Family values, when enforced or endorsed by the state are inherently collectivist. Even when not explicitly endorsed by the state, the concept of family (or church or community) values are anti-individualist in that they still stake a claim on the life of the individual in the name of some abstract common good. And while Marx and Engels end goal was to replace the typical family unit with a classless, hive mind, to get there they would first have to homogenize family values and make them one with the intermediate Socialist state.

I've been thinking and CNN is my far the most unbiased. I mean they're like reading an AP press report, it's bland, boring and lacks opnion. They're commentartors do bring their own opnions sometimes and that's natural. In the recent spat with that old woman reporter it was clear they have a very strong pro-Isreal bias. They also tend to pick on government officals instead of corportations and banks. In any case CNN is most unbiased.

And the other two don't even pretend to be not biased...well except Fox with their bullsh*t about fair and balanced. If your going to be a right wing or left wing news outlet fine, but don't just f*cking lie about it. And badly too.

Thank God I live in the UK, where all the news channels avoid overt bias (I think it's required by law that they not be biased), so we get all our bias from newspapers instead! (Coincidentally, a lot of our newspapers are owned by Murdoch.)

Anyway, I voted for CNN. From my minimal, outsiders experience with American media, they seem the least biased.

Too long. Didn't read.

All of it at no. Did read some - enough to just be first shocked at that BBC is considered "non-biased" and that people think those 3 options are any sort of wide spectrum in terms of bias.

They're commercial - they don't give two bits about ... bias, or who wins what election. They want money - bleeds leeds and so far the right seems to have bled more.

Just for those who think Fox is unbiased... ended up on their site today and low and behold, we have some nice fair and balanced news on the homepage to read! The main news is that "Mexican women help deserters" and "Reporters conspire to help Obama". Not like there's any bias here.

See the quotes around 'Big Mexican Women?' That's what the subjects of the article called them. As for the second example, umm, it doesn't really help your case to point to a story about a large group of journalists biased toward Obama. Seriously. That's like calling the kettle a racist after an army of pots called it black.

The circled bits in your screencap about the tea caucus and Sherrod were also front paged at CNN and MSDNC dotcoms, so are they biased too? rolleyes.gif

News in America is Biased on that sole fact. Same with any other nation.

I find news clips on the Internet would be the least biased, or just reading articles and not paying attention to the part where the reporter says, "In my Opinion," would be a great way to not get any biased news.

This is why I watch Al Jazeera, I'd rather hear about real world issues and injustices than be fed a constant stream of information on the BP spill, it's victims, it's repurcussions, how long it's been going on, what people think about it, what people think about BP, what people think about BP's CEO, seagulls covered in oil and of course, how the oil spill dropped out of college several times before becoming a world wide celebrity; that of course being coupled with a side dose of Lindsey Lohan's crying and Paris Hilton's vagina.

By the way, Glenn Beck was on Headline News before he moved over to Fox. Home of the ever infuriating Nancy Grace.

Unfair and biased, News and one sided views, whatever you wanna call it, all mainstream networks peddle the same junk, I just wish people would see behind the left-right system and see that it gets nothing done.

I prefer getting my news from independent websites, local news channels/papers, etc.

yeah yeah mister mister - that would be fine - if that helped any - but the independent news channels are about as unimaginative as the networks. IN MY OPINION of course.

I'm afraid it's not actually horrendously stupid, just about mediocre stupid - which by the way neither I nor you get to be anything other than - what I mean is everyone is an idiot, an average everyman joe or jack.

EAB:  Slamming someone as unintelligent because they never went to college is horrendously stupid.  Even more stupid then those who didn't attend college, so according to you, you have no credibility. monocle.gif

when did I do that?

You must be referring to my bashing of Glenn Beck and him dropping out of Community College.

In which case, I gotta hand it to you, you have a point.

But let me see if I can weasel out of it; when it comes to intricate issues such as economics, then college does make a difference. People that listen to Beck talk about intricate issues such as economics or foreign relations and get 'advice' from him are better off not doing so. These issues are vastly complicated, and hanging on a commentators word who never completed college (the level in which you learn this stuff) is stupid.

Intelligence is the ability to learn, knowledge is the acquired information

Beck doesn't have the knowledge.

....there. smile.gif But I agree with your 'not going to college doesnt make you an idiot' thing. So let me re-take it and say that Beck isn't stupid, just not qualified to talk. Not that Beck is the only one. Really, I just don't like being preached to.

Well, to be fair, you don't need a community college degree in Economics to talk about economics itself. I mean, if you, yourself, are capable of disagreeing with Beck's economic viewpoints and are able to clearly re-butt those opinions in a rational, logical manner, then, hell, you can be qualified to be an economic/political commentator on any of those brainwashing news networks! Yet, have you got a community college degree?

I, myself, voted for CNN, since they're pretty much the lesser of three evils. Those who think that Fox is 'fair and balanced' should perhaps learn about this man.

I got a good laugh out of that one, thanks.

Anytime someone talks about Beck it's like pavlov's dogs. There are people on either side who either love, or hate, him. I guess I'm one of the few in the middle. I listen on occasion, both TV and Radio, to his show. If nothing else that to see what the people in tin-foil hats are latching onto this week. But I do have to say Beck has broke a lot of stories that the rest of the media has either dragged their feet or or completely ignored. One that comes to mind is the undercover ACORN tapes, or the Van Jones thing. Also some of his outlandish accusations do have a nasty habit of actually being true down the road, like allowing abortions in the health care bill or the de-valuation of the dollar.

I'll agree that he's a bit like the dog that chases after the car. Dude has the go-getem' attitude, but probably doesn't have any idea to do once he actually catches the "car". Just because you read a lot of books, doesn't make you smart, and I think that goes both ways either in or out of college. But as long as he keeps pointing out stuff that no one is even touching, then I'll keep listening. It's up to the audience to know certain truths, about say economic policy, before going into an opinion show...which is exactly what Beck's show is.

I get it.

Still doesn't help any though - the controversy continues - I mean in brazil for example some people defend college degrees as proof of knowledge as part of like union membership, respecting class rights and so on. But it's not unanimous and there is a certain freedom that is great - it's like similar to the socialism vs. freedom thing - can a socialism exist that respects human liberty?

They're all biased (the election definitely highlighted this) but I'd say FOX is the most unbiased of the three. They seem to do the least Obama ass kissing. That said though, they're still biased.

FOX is the most biased it has always had an extreme conservative bias. How could you not notice this?

I think CNN is more dangerous because it is more subtle in being biased, they are biased, but it isn't so obvious like Fox News, so I think CNN can make a more effective brainwash lol.gif

Don't pretend like CNN is terribly reliable. Anderson Cooper, who I had thought was a more serious tv news personality than many others in the business, spends 9 minutes talking about Sarah Palin's possibly questionable but relatively benign favoriting of a tweet, and then devotes the next two segments to analyzing a Palin run for president. Come on! There's nothing better to talk about? This huge block of broadcast time is completely isolated from anything substantive or interesting that's actually going on in the world.

Al Jazeera English is much better. It seems like it's been influenced by CNN a little bit, but that it's risen far above it. They almost always cover real issues, on a global scale, and they often ask for a wide range of opinions, and don't rely so much on the opinions of political strategists, narrow-minded pundits, and celebrities. It's also not a practicer of the double standard of "American exceptionalism", that most mainstream media in America display. When they have more opinion-oriented segments, of which there is a nice balance of, they'll usually have on one person from a think tank in Washington to get the American perspective, on a segment on US foreign policy issue, and also have at least one civilian from the country in question (Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, for example), which is a critical difference with most of our news.

CNN definately. One thing i have noticed in the past 2 monthes or so is that on FOX and NBC, all i see is people agreeing with each other, no arguing or anything. on CNN, I like how they have corraspondants who are of different political viewpoints, so we can see them debate. Even they bring two opposing politicans on their shows. FOX and MSNBC its always just agreeing with each other not interesting to me.
