15fps? wow. that's really bad.

that in game bench from rockstar is very inaccurate.

it said my gtx 295 does 54fps but when i use fraps and at heavy traffic, it goes down to 35-45

that's about 35% off the actual number.

so if rockstar said you do 15 or 25fps...just minus that by 35%

I used FRAPS and that's about what I get. But why are people with the exact same specs and settings as I am getting 10-15 more FPS than I am? Is it because I'm using the 185.20 drivers? Should I use the Notebook drivers?

How are people getting 20-35 FPS with 8500GTs, 8600GTs, 9500GS's, and yet I'm only getting 15 FPS? I have the latest patch, all that stuff... Good processor, lots of RAM, latest NVIDIA drivers (185.20), so how is my FPS so low? I don't have any BG processes, I also use the AMD Fusion tool to stop all services before playing. Still only 15 FPS. Why?

As I said, there must be something wrong with your config. Check whether you have the latest BootCamp version, make sure that your power settings in Windows (on the taskbar) is set to Always On.

I do have the latest Boot Camp version, and I don't see an option for Always On in Power, only Restart Automatically After Power Failure.

You have to do it in Windows. Control Panel -> Power Settings (at least in XP): different settings puts the CPU/gfx card in different modes. You want "Always On" because then it's maximized.

The only thing I can find is a place to set the Minimum and Maximum Processor power. I set it to 100%.

Okay, well, installing the latest (179.48) NVIDIA notebook drivers helped a lot. Very smooth now, only problem is that the game will slow down every 5 or so seconds. It's not like a pause, it's just where the entire game will just slow down for a second, then speed up again. It makes playing near impossible. Did/does anyone else have this?

I have the "similar" graphics card like yours, just because mine is a laptop so it has "M" behind the series.

Exactly, take the GTX280M for example.

Almost identical to the desktop GTX 280. Right?

Right...?

sarcasm.gif

But if you take a look at the specs, the notebooks are lower than the desktops. yawn.gif

What GPU do you have. Because if its a Geforce Mobile series then ya ur gonna get much lower performance than the desktop equivalent.

A 9600M GT IS NOT EQUAL TO A 9600 GT.

ATI is much more similar to their desktop counterparts as they go for their mobile cards, but still laptop GPUs are always less performance then their desktop counterpart.

Stop buying new iMacs to play this game, and just buy a Windows gaming PC.

Some of you Apple fanboys are just too confusing.

Haha, I didn't get it to play the game. The graphics card before wasn't adequate for the Motion work I do, and Apple had refurbs, so I made a $150 profit. Nothing to do with gaming.

No, get your brain checked. Profit is NOT $150, that's money that you didn't SPEND, money that is supposedly "slashed" as a discount. Profit is money that is returned to you after total revenue (price x quantity). You didn't make $150 "profit", you just didn't SPEND $150 more. For someone your age, I'd expect you to understand some BASIC, BARELY HIGH-SCHOOL level economics. Hell, they teach this sh*t in middle school nowadays.

You're going to keep defending a poor investment by making up new definitions for words, fine, but don't expect the community to swallow your inept knowledge of vocabulary. You're spitting out jargon without even knowing what your sh*t means.

Profit: increase in wealth that an investor has from making an investment, taking into consideration all costs associated with that investment including the opportunity cost of capital. Basically, total revenue equals total cost, or TR = TC = e.

Discount (aka allowances): Discounts and allowances are reductions to a basic price of goods or services. They can occur anywhere in the distribution channel, modifying either the manufacturer's list price (determined by the manufacturer and often printed on the package), the retail price (set by the retailer and often attached to the product with a sticker), or the list price (which is quoted to a potential buyer, usually in written form).

Anyway...

8800 GS is still a crap card. A 7900GTX would beat that card and consume less power (even more humiliating).

On your MAC your performance just sucks. I looked at your benchmarks and most of your stuff is on Medium low (view distance of 30? wtf? even XBOX360 beats that... My old 7900GTX would beat that... )

I agree with Vicetopia. Also, you keep posting back on this thread meaning that you still CARE about defending yourself, even though you say you don't. Give us a break, we've all taken our college-required psychology classes -- we know when you're bullsh*tting. GTAForums isn't a stupid community. You're pissed because we keep taking stabs at your MAC investment, we've provided fully legitimate reasons as to why your MAC is sub-par, and then you try to change your initial "cause" by saying that your reasons behind posting this thread have (mysteriously) changed. You just want to "provide" information to other potential MAC buyers. Suuuuure. Which explains your first post,

So, for all of you who were thinking about getting one of these iMacs and playing GTA IV, I say go for it. Performance is great. biggrin.gif

Yes, 14 FPS is great. (epic sarcasm). Just shut up already. lol.gif

EDIT: Let's see some of this motion work you're talking about. Then you can tell us that you didn't buy this computer to play games. Or are you going to change your thoughts on this as well?

LOL. This is just pathetic... if someone wants to play the game with such a poor fps count, then he'll buy a Mac. But IMO everyone can decide what he/she needs. No need to start complaining about how someone prefers macs over PC's... everyone can have his/her opinion. confused.gif

LOOOL +1, so trying to defend your mac when its pure sh*t.... Im a graphic designer and I use macs for my projects because my boss forces me to use mac.... I really should'nt be using such a crappy computer like that for my project. I mean my PC would do 3X more than what a crappy mac would do... so if OP said he didnt buy a mac for gaming what the hell is he doing in a forum like this... you didnt buy a mac to play games so just dont LOOOL. A mac is not an investement when it f*cks up... you loose it for 3 months and the company tries to fix it.... wich everyone knows its not worth repairing... When my PC f*cks up wich never really happend... I open my case and speculate... 20 mins later the problem is fixed
