Firstly, apologies to those who are using any skin other than the standard forum skin. For some reason, tables caused massive irregular spacing throughout the topic so I had to take screenshots of the tables and post them as images instead of using the proper table code.

General FAQ

Q. How many storyline missions are there in total?

A. 58.

Q. What year is Chinatown Wars set in?

Explained in one of the first cutscenes of the game, 2009.

Q. What happens if I die during a mission?

A. You will be taken to the Hospital and given the option to restart the missio by pressing the Select button. The same also applies to being arrested by the cops but bear in mind that if you're arrested you will lose all weapons being held on your person.

Q. Are you able to travel to places in taxis?

A. Yes, just hold X when you are near a Taxi with a light on the roof (the light being on is an indication of the Taxi not being in use, when they are in use the light will be off). You can also whistle into your DS microphone to hail a Taxi.

Q. What are the names of the radio stations in CTW?

  • Ticklah- Dub

  • Deadmau5- Electronic

  • Alchemist- Hip Hop

  • Truth & Zoul- Jazz/Funk

  • Prairie Cartel- Rock

Q. How do you obtain new weapons in CTW?

A. There are several ways you can get new weapons in the game. The first is the classic picking them up from dead bodies. There are also two ways new to Chinatown Wars. There are red dumpsters use throughout the city, and stashed inside these are items (can include weapons, or food). To get them out press Select next to the dumpster, then open the lid and throw the bags out of the dumpster with your stylus and if it is a weapon it will be added to your inventory.

The other new feature is weapon deliveries. Open your PDA, go into the Ammu-Nation section and you will be given a menu with different gun sections (Handguns, SMG etc.) and from here will be able to order weapons from them. You will then receive a order confirmation E-mail from them, and then another E-mail when the weapons are delivered to your Safehouse.

Please note that some weapons will need to be unlocked, and also that they will only be delivered to certain Safehouses.

On top of this, you are also able to hijack Ammu-Nation delivery trucks to get weapons. However, be prepared for a fight because the drivers are heavily armed.

Q. How does the new Police Evasion system work?

A. Chinatown Wars features a new Police Evasion system where you can lose stars by taking out the cars following you. They do not need to explode, you will know when they're wrecked enough because a red X will appear above the car & one of the car symbols under your Wanted tars will be crossed off. You can also lose stars by entering any Safehouse you own, or going into a Pay 'N Spray (providing no police see you enter it).

Q. Where can I start Street Racing in CTW?

Click here for the location. Thanks to Cheating Soi for finding it & PatrickW for fixing the link.

Q. Are there any Random Characters in Chinatown Wars?

A. Yes, there are Random Characters in the game. I do not know how many but have seen around 3-4 different markers on the map so far.

Q. Are there Helicopters in Chinatown Wars?

A. Yes, helicopters are featured in the game, however none have been found as flyable so far.

Side-Missions & Odd-Jobs

Q. What is involved in the Drug Dealing mini-game and how does it work?

A. The Drug Dealing mini-game is a very prominent one and involves the player buying drugs and then selling them on for a profit. Essentially, it's your classic buy low and sell high scenario. However, the DDealing mini-game differs from other because it requires no trigger, it is on-going throughout the game (after you have completed a certain storyline mission).

After completing this mission you will be able to visit dealers throughout the city and buy drugs off them, for a price. Once you have bought some drugs, they will be put into your Duffel bag and you will be able to visit other dealers around the city to sell them on, or buy more if you have the room (50 bags of drugs is the limit). When selling the drugs, you will be given a choice of how many bags of which drugs to sell, but a window will also display the amount of profit/loss you will gain/lose from the deal. This mini-game requires you to check prices in the fluctuating market to make sure that you will be able to make a profit from your purchase in the future.

Drug Dealing Tips:

  • Be aware of cops. If you turn up to the dealer with a Wanted level or while the cops are around, he will get spooked and run away, and you will have to wait a short while for him to return. Also when you exit a deal there may be cops ready to bust you, which will result in a 2* Wanted level which you will need to lose. If you are busted while holding drugs, they will all be permenantely confiscated from you, which means you lose however much money you spent on them.

  • Every Safehouse in the game features a lockbox in which you can transfer drugs from your bag and store them safely, so if you get busted they are not removed.

  • You will often get E-mails from dealers around the city with tips on where good deals can be made. Some will involve people who are willing to pay a lot more than usual for a drug, and the others will involve people who are selling drugs for a very low price. My advice would be to always go for these tips, you can make a stack of profit from them. But make sure you get there early if you are planning on taking advantage of these tips, because they expire after a certain amount of days.

  • You can also gain Drugs by hi-jacking other Gang's drug vans. These are red vans which you will occasionally see around the city, and will have a red pointer above them to indicate they're drug vans. The drivers are armed, but unlike the Ammu-Nation vans you are able to drag the drivers out of their vehicles and then speed off without having to engage them in a gunfight. You then take these vans to a secluded Safehouse and then cut out the side-panel of the car using the touch-screen. However, you can usually gain a larger profit from dealing out drugs than stealing these vans, as the drugs only come in very small amounts in these vans.

A map of all 80 Drug Dealers can be found here.

Q. What are the Scratch Cards for?

A. There are several different locations where you can buy Scratch Cards in the game, and there are also several different types of cards which will give different prizes. So far I have seen prizes of food, different amounts of cash and the top prize for one card is a Hotel Suite for a new Safehouse. There's no realt technique to winning the Scratch Cards, it's essentially just down to luck. You can also blow into the DS microphone to blow away the scratchings from the card.

Q. What is the Riding Shotgun mini-game?

A. In Riding Shotgun, you drive around in a Cavalcade and take out enemy trucks. You will be accompanied by a friend who will sit in the back of the truck with an Assault Rifle and help you out with taking out the trucks. Your goal is to take gain as many points as you can within the time limit. You're given 25 points for taking out normal trucks, and 100 for taking out Gang Captain trucks. There's not really much else to say on this game mode, it's a basic drive and shoot mini-game.

You can start Riding Shotgun here, just get in the Cavalcade to start the mini-game.

Q. What is the Loose Exchange mini-game?

A. In the Loose Exchange mini-game you have to drive through 29 checkpoints, which form a course, in under 1 minute. There's nothing much else to say on this, just drive through each point as quickly as you can. Remember that they form a course, and collecting them in order will get you a quicker time than if not.

You can start Loose Exchange here, just get in the Cavalcade to start the mini-game.

Q. What is the Graveyard Groove mini-game?

A. In the Graveyard Groove mini-game you have to drive through 35 checkpoints, which form a course, in under 1:05:00, it's essentially the same as Loose Exchange other than you drive a Hearse in this mini-game. There's nothing much else to say on this, just drive through each point as quickly as you can. Remember that they form a course, and collecting them in order will get you a quicker time than if not.

You can start Graveyard Groove here, just get in the Hearse to start the mini-game.

Q. What is the Fast Tracks mini-game?

A. In the Fast Tracks mini-game you drive a Rhino (tank) and have to follow a course, and complete it in as little time as you can. There are also target vehicles scattered along the course, and 5 seconds is taken off your time for each target you destory. There's nothing much else to say on this, just drive through each point as quickly as you can.

You can start Fast Tracks here, just get in the Rhino to start the mini-game. If you just want the Tank without having to complete Fast Tracks, just press Select twice after the mini-game starts, which quits it, then get back into the Rhino.

Q. What is the Noodle Run mini-game?

A. In the Noodle Run mini-game you drive a delivery van and have to make food deliveries within a time limit. Once you reach a delivery marker you go to the front door of the house, ring the bell and wait for the customer to come down and pay you. After you have completed a set of deliveries, you have some extra time added onto the clock and have to complete the next set of deliveries.

You can start Noodle Run here, just get in the delivery van to start the mini-game.

Q. What is the Go-Kar-TT mini-game?

A. In the Go-Kar-TT mini-game you have to drive a Go-Kart around a track and finish under a certain time. You will receive a Bronze, Silver or Gold medal depending on how quickly you beat the track, and a higher cash bonus for each. There's nothing much else to add, just make sure that you do not crash into the tires at the side, and also make sure you follow the arrows, some courses around the track have areas blocked off.

You can start Go-Kar-TT here, just get in the Go-Kart to start the mini-game. If you just want to take the Go-Kart without completing any courses, just get in it and press Select twice when the race starts, this quits the mini-game, then get back into the Go-Kart.

Q. What is the Fire Fighter mini-game?

A. In the Fire Fighter mini-game you drive a Fire Truck and have to put out fires around the city under a time limit. Once you reach a fire, put it out using the water gun in the Truck. After you have put out a fire, you have some extra time added onto the clock and have to put out the next set of fires.

You can start Fire Fighter here, just get in the Fire Truck to start the mini-game.

Q. What is the Hobotron mini-game?

A. The Hobotron mini-game is pretty simple. Just survive the waves of attacks, there will be weapon pickups are the area that will show up as green markers on your GPS.

You can start Hobotron here, just walk into the blue marker to start the mini-game.

Q. What is the Liberty City Gun Club?

A. The Liberty City Gun Club is available after completing the mission for Kenny named "Under The Gun". Enter the yellow chevrons to enter the building, and enter the blue chevrons in the middle of the range to start the challenge. In the Gun Club you can practice with weapons and earn medals, and you can unlock more weapon challenges as your progress through the story. You will get $250 each time you beat the high score. Your objective is to shoot the red & yellow targets and not to shoot the blue targets.

In the Sniper Rifle challenge, you can earn bonus time if you assemble the rifle in less than 20 seconds.

Locations.

Rather than write up a description for each mini-game, it'd be easier to list the locations for each mini-game, a lot of them are the same and just use different vehicles.

Good work my man, but I would also add under being arrested, that the cops will also conviscate any drugs you are carrying on you when you are arrested. If you leave your drugs at home in your drug box, then they are safe.

Keep it up though, this is good.

Already have, it's under the tips for the Drug Dealing part;

If you are busted while holding drugs, they will all be permenantely confiscated from you, which means you lose however much money you spent on them.

After that it mentions the Lockbox.

And thanks.

How do you know all this stuff? Did you find it all? Good job putting it all together anyway icon14.gif

All the stuff in this topic I found myself, yeah, other than the Street Racing location as I listed the credits to the founder(s) for that.

Wow.

Unless this is here, I would get a warning for one word post, even though there is only on word to describe how I feel about Enjoii's confession

I believe I just spotted an error in the FAQ, not a major one nonetheless.

For the R on foot control, instead of Lock on target, you put in Rock on target. tounge.gif

Heh, thanks. I'll edit it shortly, I had to make images of the tables because for some reason the tables themselves added massive spaces to the post and it looked a mess.

I can't seem to use the 'hold x to hail taxi' the whistle works fine, but only when standing still. Is there some other trick to it?

Just hold the X button until Huang stops walking and raises an arm up in the air. Make sure the light on the top of the Taxi you're trying to hail is lit, otherwise Huang will just raise his arm into the air and do nothing.

Can you edit your post and add some of the weapons in the game, I'd say not going into much detail about the weapon, just tell us what guns are in the game. (Uzi, m4, AK, auto shotty etc).

Sure, I'll gather a list of how many & what guns are in each weapon class.

Alright, my Game Guide came today which means that some time later today I'll be able to put up SnapMap locations for things like Odd Jobs & Drug Dealers.

EDIT: Drug Dealers map is here.

EDIT: Drug Dealers map is here.

That snapmap doesn't work.

We added a map of drugsdealers to WikiGTA.

Others: Unique Stunt Jumps, Rampages. Security Cams and Odd Jobs. More, like Random Encounters, will come online soon.

Alright, couple of updates. I've added a table for the Auto-Merchant vehicles, and one for 100% completion, although I had to add them both in as images rather than actual tables because the tables caused massive spaces throughout the topic unfortunately, so apologies to those who are not using the default forum skin.

Can you explain those swirling dots? I've done the storyline missions but when I walk into them nothing happens. Oh yeah and the images you've put for the Auto Merchant and the 100% checklist is not showing up. I try to click view image but a page comes up and says failed to connect. Also is there no bonus from a side mission where your health is doubled just like how your armor is doubled from completing Vigilante?

The Blue Swirling areas mark 20 possible locations where one of the 2 statues could do. If you have completed the storyline and a location shows up as a blue swirl still, it means that there is no statue there and you should check another location. When you find one of the correct locations there will be a statue there which will disintegrate when you walk into it, and a message will appear saying that you have found one. Repeat this and find the other statue.

As for the images, they're working fine for me, I'm not sure why they wouldn't show up for you, Isarapix is quite a common host on this forum.

There is no side-mission which doubles your health, but getting a gold medal in both Noodle Run missions will cause your health to re-generate after it goes below 25%.

Perhaps another question for in the FAQ (to prevent more questions about it):

Q: I have an e-mail that the Ammunation launched a webstore. But there is no link in that e-mail!

A: It's a bug in the game! When you are opening that e-mail in your safehouse (with the pc), you can't see the link. Open it with your PDA, and it will be visible!

But you can double your armor if you complete 5 waves in the police side missions. (Viglante) If you complete that side mission, not only will you be having double armor, but also it's needed for 100% game completion.

I've just gotten through the game recently. Amazing. Im 97.87% complete. I still have a few things to get here and there, BUT and this is a HUGE BUT. I did find my 2 statues of Fo. Im not sure if anyone can share or verify this, but i dont believe the statues are JUST AT THE BLUE TWIRLS. I found one statue at the blue twirl in meadow hills (behind the house you recieve from random character) and the second statue by my safehouse in northwood. WHERE THERE IS NO BLUE SWIRL. IF you have gone through the game to the point of finding the bomb garage, in northwood, then you can understand where im talking about. The bomb garage in Northwood, by the drug dealer DAYTON, directly across the street. In the grass, right before you hit the water/dock mercie_blink.gif . There isnt a blue swirl to be found here, yet this is where i found my second statue. Im not sure what the blue twirls represent now, due to the fact that my second statue was ACTUALLY GENERATED IN A RANDOM LOCATION. I know that the statues are supposed to be randomly generated for each game, assuming in the blue twirl locations and therefore im not sure how helpful this is to each individual. The rockstargames.com/socialclub site gives you a hint map to their locations, but neither of my statues were in any location the map shows. I figured id throw this out there, just to let people know, i registered specifically just to tell you guys this.

This is to answer the two posts above:

1. From what Ive heard rockstar intends to have downlaoded content added to chinatown wars. The blue swirls are to mark locations of these new content packs. Of course i have no hard facts but it seems plausible at least.

2. The two delivery missions are in a) Middle Park East in Algonquin and b) Industiral in Bohan. They are the mail delivery trucks and you get in the trucks to start the mission. You have to pick up packages and deliver them while stopping your rivals from doing the same. Its actually really fun! The actual names are like express or something like that.

Hope this helps!
