You're really going to argue Wilson was not on the plate when he got hit? He comes across the plate, glove extended as though he has the ball. If the catcher isn't fair game to hit there, the rule might as well be taken out.

Whether or not Teixeira could have slid and avoided contact is irrelevant (I sure as hell don't see much a wide open plate, as you said, anyway). When the catcher is on top of or blocking the plate, you hit him. You don't give him the opportunity to make the play. Teixeira was playing the game the way it ought to be played.

Where they both were when the hit was made is irrelevant. The point was when Teixeira made the decision to run the catcher (i.e. started making the move to hit him) Wilson was on the other side of home plate. Of course Wilson is going to come across once the runner gets close. Every catcher does in hopes of them missing the plate and being able to get a late tag in.

My point is when Teixeira started making the move to hit Wilson there is no way he thought Wilson had the ball. Therefor cheap play.

How in the hell is the point of contact irrelevant? What the f*ck do we judge this by then? So instead of observing something concrete like point of contact, we're going to try to determine Teixeira's intent as he rounds third base? Give me a break.

If Wilson doesn't swing around for a tag, he doesn't get hit. It's amazing that a guy running over a catcher who is sitting on top of the plate at the point of contact is unjustified to you.

I'm completely over that damn Teixeira play, but I will say that the angle of that picture doen't show much. I will agree that at the last possible moment, after Teixeira was already leaning into Wilson, that the catcher leaned in slightly. It's probably the reason for the injury, but even if Wilson didn't lean, Teixeira was still going to clock him. Was it legal. Borderline. Do I like it? Hell no. Is Mark Teixeira a prick? Hell yes.

Got to go the Marlins/Nats game last night, wasn't a good night for Nolasco. Nyjer Morgan is awesome to watch in CF though, I'd say outside of Gutierrez and maybe Bossman he's the best defensive outfielder in baseball.

I am a cock gobbler and I like to gobble cocks.

You're a Marlins fan, right? Man that kid Nunez you've got has some nasty stuff. Mid 90s fastball and he's got as much movement on his changeup as I think I've ever seen.

Yea the way his change dives down and away so quick it's almost a screwball. Last year he had a bad home run problem, but he's looking a little better this year at least. Putting him in yesterday when the game was tied with bases loaded would've been a good idea, but instead the team insists on constantly using Pinto against lefties even though he can't trow strikes for his life.

Well, if someone insulted you, no one would care, but YOU. Crossing the mound while the pitcher is there, is a definite taboo.

Yea, Walking over the mound if your not a pitcher is just an unwritten rule. You simply do not do it. I guarantee you Rodriguez is pissed he threw it. Earlier in the week he was saying Braden got his 15 minutes of fame and that he is a no one. Well now Braden has an auto spot in the Hall of Fame.

A-Rod is bush league.

I really couldnt have said it better myself.

In other words, I just found out that Dallas Braden lived in my home town in summer of 04 and played for a collegiate team in my home town. Weird knowing I have probably met this guy before even been to parties with him (knew a lot of his fellow collegiate teammates) and never knew that one day he would be making baseball history one day.

Also the night before he threw it he was in Stockton (his hometown) and was actually over at my friends house playing the show with my friend and some of his buddies. That is definitely weird ha.

Well now Braden has an auto spot in the Hall of Fame.

He still has to have a good career to even be considered. Only throwing a perfect game and not doing much else won't get you any HoF consideration.

ESPN really is horrible. They have like 4 teams in each major sport that they follow closely and everyone else has crap coverage.

Completely agree. ESPN apparently has decided that they only think 3-4 teams per sport are worth covering, financially, so that's all they do. I've long been a proponent of the idea that if you cover more teams. more people will have interest in them. There really needs to be another sports network step up and fill the gaps where ESPN fails. I bet a lot of people would watch. The main reason I watch ESPN is because it's the only network of its kind.

A big example of ESPN's failure is in the depth of coverage they have for Brett Favre. I have no f*cking idea why they think people want to know so much about him. They are the ONLY PEOPLE ON EARTH who care about Favre as much as they do. Everyone who watches ESPN gets sick of hearing about it, and even some of their own broadcasters express their frustration in covering Favre on-air, so why do they keep doing it? It's just f*cking asinine. There is no logical explanation as to why they continue to force Favre down people's throats.

Actually dirty, There is a room in the HoF dedicated to every pitcher who has thrown a perfect game. So he actually is a lock. Just not in the way that most people go in. smile.gif

Ugh I hate Favre because of ESPN. Talk way too much about him. I think they Equal out the NFL Coverage great, but when it comes to the MLB its all AL East. When it comes to NCAA Football its all about the SEC, Texas and Oklahoma, USC and Ohio State. NBA is a complete disgrace to the word sport and shouldn't even be on ESPN. and lastly hockey is a great sport that they never put on ESPN.

I didn't know Cooperstown had a section just for that. Good to know.

ESPN is a joke. They are supposed to be "the worldwide leader in sports", but that's only if you happen to be a fan of one of the ten most popular teams in all of North American professional sports.

Anyone else excited for Strasburg's start tonight? As a die hard Nats fan, I'm pretty stoked. This is by far the biggest thing that's happened since baseball came back here. The Nats badly need a win tonight and throughout the upcoming Pirates' series after getting screwed hard in our last two series with the Reds and Astros.

Not sure how I feel about drafting Harper last night. I understand that he's got talent you can't pass on, but the kid just seems like a douche. Hopefully he'll mature as a person by the time he makes it to the bigs.

My dad is going to interview to be a volunteer for the All-Star game. I hope he gets this, there is no bigger Angels fan in the world.

I'm happy to see Vlad Guerrero in the lead for the DH vote. I would love to see him hit a homer back in his old stomping ground.

Charlie Manuel is such an asshole with these all star picks. Putting Omar Infante on an all star team is laughable enough, and then he goes on to pick his own player Ryan Howard over Votto who's been the best hitter in the NL this year. What the f*ck man. And if Josh Johnson doesn't start the all star game I'm gonna be really mad.

I went to the futures game and celebrity/legends softball game. It was a good time. The Angels prospects looked good. Trout was fast.

I never in my life thought I'd get to see Tim Salmon hit his 300th homer, or MC Hammer hit a homer, period. But man it was good to see Tim Salmon. I grew up on this guy, and hated seeing him retire just one home run shy of 300. Although I am happy to have seen him holding that championship trophy in 2002. I just don't know what to say about seeing him last night. There were fireworks after he won a little home run derby. He went five for five, over the softball fence, but these balls were hit to the warning track. If they were hard balls and not softballs, he would have crushed every one of them. Anyway, during the fireworks I couldn't help but look on the field and see Salmon signing autographs to pretty much anyone he could reach around the dugouts and dugout suites. He'll always be Mr. Angel.
