Pr0xy_fl00d3r
I was thinking of various different criminal activities in the next Grand Theft Auto game. Now, I dont mean criminal activities by working for others i.e. High end assassin, drug delivery, car thefts. I am talking about running a criminal empire, similair to the way Tommy Vercetti built his way to the top in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Drug dealing Starting off at the bottom, dealing small amounts of crack around some run down housing projects, you would have to deal drugs in different, hostile situations; you would have to kill off a higher member of the drug dealing underworld to progress to the higher level of drug dealing i.e. From selling crack to some lowlife to shipping millions of dollars worth of cocaine into the country. If you dont want to get your hands dirty you could hire some muscle to do it for you. But as you progress through the game you would have to hire more professional assassins to do your dirty work. You would have to buy factories to produce drugs and have "regular" buyers, control certain territories and gain certain territories to sell your drugs. This would also introduce running a small gang to help gain territory. Also, as you gain power, you gain a bounty, like you would in any underworld, the higher up the chain you are, the more chance of being assasinated you become. Protection Rackets Basically, gaining protection from small local businesses, obviouslt you must have a small gang or a few aquaintances to do this. To do so, send in a couple of your men, tell them to smash up the place, go in a couple of hours later and say "I heard you have been having some trouble, well lets say you cut me some money and I'll stop this". In some situations the shopkeeper/businessmen will say "Yes, please help me" or sometimes you will have to send in your gang more than once and repeat the process. Sometimes, other gangs will try to cut into your business and trash the place, obviously, you will have to stop them. Prostitution Please dont mix this up with that horrible side mission in San Andreas. This would be more realistic than picking up random women and selling them. have you ever been driving through Liberty City with some slut in your car and though, I'd rather drop her off at a clients place rather than park up and bone her? Well I have. Instead of San Andreas where you drop them off you would have clients to place and transfer money, although, If you are seen commiting this act in the eyes of the police, you get a two star wanted level which you have to escape, also having to conseal the identity of the escort & the client. Obviously, the quality of escort will depend on the money/reputation you make in this business. Running businesses Similair to Dwayne running The Triangle club & Phil Bell running Honkers, Why cant we own a well known businesses such as gentlemans clubs, Bars, Diners etc. The player has to buy the business off of the previous owner, or to save lots of money, obtain the property via extortion. Threaten the owner, kill him off etc. Once your criminal organistaion has obtained the property, rival gangs will try to destroy your property, but as the player, you can allocate your gang members to hang in and around the property, the more gang members who protect your business, the more chance of keeping your property in order. Running gangs Now, I dont mean like San Andreas, where gang members just spawn in your territories. I mean, you have to "buy" gangsters and set them to hang around a certain area or property. A simple gang member with no gun, just fists/melee weapon would cost something like $50 A Gangster with a pistol would cost $150 A gangster with a sub machine gun would cost $200 A gangster with an assault rifle $300 A gangster with a more than one weapon would cost $500 each. Gangsters will only start to follow you once you reach a certain level. Loan Sharking The ability to loan people money with high interest will earn you a lot of money. If the person refuses to pay or fails to give you your money by a certain time, then you will have to intimidate them or carry out acts of violence towards them, but obviously, dont kill them, or you lose money. You can access certain groups of clients on your phone with all of your clients from each sector i.e. Prostitution, drug dealing, loan sharking, gangs. Simply access the loan sharking section and ring your clients, sometimes it will be harder for you to find your client, others they will just do a roman bellic and stay in there property. Discuss different types of criminal activities or add your own ideas.
Nikkola bellic,Belgrade,Serbia
No comment man you are reading my mind!Awesome but the there should be even more like selling weapons and stolen cars and gang relations system so it wont be easy to make cash! Mainland Marauder
It looks good to me, but haven't these been in past GTAs before (mostly VCS)? "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be."
Pr0xy_fl00d3r
It looks good to me, but haven't these been in past GTAs before (mostly VCS)? Yeah, but they wasnt as in depth. Its easier said than done running a criminal empire, and on VCS, it was pretty unrealistic and had flaws.
Dragonex100
I agree with you. I'm working on my Grand Theft Auto:Lincoln State thread which has the basic idea your providing, but alittle more in depth.
Vetra
Most of these things are being planned as part of the GTA4 Overhaul. Are you sure you didn't get these 'ideas' from the GTA4 Overhaul thread? They are almost identical to ideas proposed there... Check it out if you haven't already GTA4 Overhaul Read the posts there first before going to the Official Forum (because that's still relatively new)

Ultraussie
The "Bounty" would make the game very annoying, unless it was only in missions. Bad idea.
Pr0xy_fl00d3r
The "Bounty" would make the game very annoying, unless it was only in missions.Bad idea. only in enemy gang areas or around your own gangs, people would rarely try to hit you, but it would just usually be as easy as two guys in a car doing drive by's. J Coasta
I am talking about running a criminal empire, similair to the way Tommy Vercetti built his way to the top in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I LOVE this idea. Take this old somewhat sh*tty game called GANGSTERS for PC. If the ideas used in that as far as recruiting, extortion, using front businesses to conceal the illegal businesses, assigning your underlings to a variety of tasks. Basically complete SIM style MOB Boss control implicated into GTA. Of course you would have to work your way up. No one starts at the top. For my GTA 4 & The Lost and Damned lacked something to look forward to by the time all the hard work is said and done. No Car dealerships to buy, no BIG expensive houses to own, no real money making opportunities. Hell in TLAD you lose your clubhouse at the end of story mode!!!! That pissed me off. Its as if i was punished for beating the game, and left with a sh*t hole house in the industrial area of Alderney, with no front door, no TV, No computer and no fun. Does any one agree? sam33
I love the whole drug dealing idea. Kudos. edit: You could have ranks within your gang and your own gang members betraying you to try and get ahead.
Nikkola bellic,Belgrade,Serbia
I love those Ideas same thoughts myself But would add option to have Gang Influence, money and relations system so every action you make has effects, form alliances, interrogate high ranking enemies etc etc Also at start you are just a small fish and pay lot interest to others until..your time comes Hell why they did not include that in GTA4 is beyond me

Discuss different types of criminal activities or add your own ideas. Thats exactly the type of gta I want to play. I believe that there should be 2 different types of solutions when it comes to dealing with other criminal groups.(war and diplomacy, for instance killing several high profile members of a gang or criminal organization then negotiating terms of surrender and imposing a street tax. In the case of weaker groups you can completely kill and takeover territory if you want to.) Also I believe there should be way more criminal interprises to get involved with, turf such as labor and union corruption and white collar crime. Semaj Nodnarb
What about arms dealing. You could get better guns for your use if you sell enough guns. Oh and why not let us try the drugs we sell. There could be some crazy effects with the games physics. Nikkola bellic,Belgrade,Serbia
Love all those ideas,my thoughts exactly I thing that these things would be good also,to add to discussion robbing places robbing people on street by threatening Pickpocket[yes!] breaking into apartments bribe cops for smaller crimes These are some things you don't even need connections and gang for!
