Girish
Have you checked the temperatures on other games with VSync on and off? Also, the human eye can process upto 60 frames per second, not 30. Also, looking at your benchmark, it seems that you have exceeded your available resource which might be causing the stutters. What's the used/available resource ratio; it appears on the bottom-right of the Graphics options screen. Right since the beginning, all my stuttering issues have been fixed by the -memrestrict command so I'm surprised that it didn't help you.
mkey82
60°C for a GPU is absolutely fine. Also, vsync locks the FPS to your screen refresh rate and that's basically the maximum amount of frames your screen can handle anyway.
Nick the Newb
60°C for a GPU is absolutely fine. Also, vsync locks the FPS to your screen refresh rate and that's basically the maximum amount of frames your screen can handle anyway. Locking the FPS on some games to around 60-70 is really good b/c the GPU sometimes generate up to 800 FPS on "old" games that i play. This causes the GPU to freak out and generate about 48,000 frames per minute! Hence the heat. Locking it down to 60-70 is around 3,900 frames per minute, hence the coolness. I've also checked the temperatures on other games when Vsync is ON: L4D, TF 2, COD 4, Mass Effect, Bioshock. Respectively, GPU first, then CPU, here are the temps in degrees Celcius: 46 49 48 47 49 50 50 48 47 46 I turned Vsync off TF 2 once and here's the temperature (GPU and CPU respectively in C): 58 49 I've been told many times, "Use -memrestrict mate, and it'll fix your problem." My problem? h*ll no. YOUR problem. MY problem is DIFFERENT than yours. For me -memrestrict is a pile of BULLCR*P. I hate that cr*p that Rocksh*t throws out b/c it isn't helpful. You guys play your GTA 4 on medium graphics on 512 MB vid card. I PLAY MINE ON ALL HIGHEST on a 512 MB video card and I EXPECT IT TO RUN WITHOUT STUTTERS. AND I DID IT, THIS IS THE SOLUTION TO RUN HIGHEST ON A 512MB VID CARD! Rockcr*p's fix is for those who obey and play medium on a 512 MB graphic card. I DON'T OBEY ANYONE! mkey82
I hate that cr*p that Rocksh*t throws out b/c it isn't helpful. You're so lost in ignorance it's not even funny. The memrestrict commandline helped a lot of people to get a stable and stutter free game. Only because it did not work for YOU it doesn't mean it's crap. gh3860
Memstrict doesn't work and vsync doesn't work can anybody help my stuttering. I mainly get around 25-36 FPS on my laptop all on high including texture I3-350M Windows 7 home premuim x64 ATI mobility radeon hd 5650 OC @600/900mhz 4gbdd53 1066mhz
mkey82
Lower the settings and don't force anything, watch the memory usage.
Wolfmight
Yeah, I remember my stock CPU fan got really weak after awhile and I was getting over 60C CPU in Fallout 3, so it would run good till it got too hot and the FPS would drop tremendously. Replaced that fan with a Zalman CNPS9700led and DAMN the FPS was clean as a whistle. Built a new system recently and the quad core combined with this same Zalman gets in the mid 20s C! Runs games amazing with dual XFX 5770 ATIs. GTA IV shows 2GB of GFX Ram to apply settings to. I'm looking for a mod to perhaps utilize the Crossfire better, but so far no findings yet. Games like COD:Modern Warfare and NFS:Shift run PERFECT with 100% full graphics and res. I did some good ebay trading to cover vast majority of the costs, cause i wouldn't have been able to afford the new system with savings alone. magma24
HOLY SH*T! HOLY SH*T! READ BELOW TO KNOW HOW I REMOVED 99.99%, if not all, STUTTERS!!!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- News this good deserves a story and a completely new post. Ok, here goes. So I was investigating my computer's temperature to see how hot it runs. Well, i downloaded this software called GPU-Z for graphics card temp and Core Temp for CPU temp. So i was playing Crysis, and the GPU temperatures went to 60C and CPU 48C on all highest. Well, at that time i had Vsync off and i thought that vsync would stress my video card, so i turned it on to see another temperature test. To my amazement, with Vsync ON, the temps are: GPU 47C & CPU 47C. I was like, "dayum...." I've never been a good friend w/ Vsync because it tones down my fps from about 120-500 to 60-70 on many games. So, now , i turned on GTA 4 and played with Vsync ON. Temp was REALLY LOW, as i expected (GPU 49C & CPU 49C, compared to it off GPU 62C & CPU 51C). As I've seen, there is NO DIFFERENCE in FPS between Vsync off and on, but your eyes can only see about 60 fps so who cares. Anyway, once Vsync is on, GTA 4 ran the benchmark w/ the same high stats as the above post, but the fps is about the same, which is 53.41. Ok, now knowing that my GPU will stay cool during GTA 4 gameplay while Vsync is on, i go and test to see if this has any effects on stuttering (I thought it was a long shot, and hell, it was f*cking worth it). I got 6 stars and used the ak-47 rocket launcher mod and blew the streets into hell. I did this for 1 hour. That's 1 hour of heavy explosion. Regularly, after such heavy explosions, this causes stuttering when you drive fast in a car. BUT, somehow, when Vsync is ON, I got into my Infernus and drove off. NO F*CKING STUTTER, AT ALLLLL!!!!!! The End, Thank you to the awesome Nick. *claps* I love myself so much. LONG STORY SHORT: Turn on Vsync and no stutterz <-- nobody knew about this(at least they didn't tell me)???? wtf? Oh yeah, I love myself. How do you turn ob Vsync? It isn't there in the graphics options?
mkey82
It IS in the game settings, among graphics options.
