I don't understand what the position tracker dose.

It saves your position to a text file. Allows you to teleport to those locations. You can attach a name and description to it too.

 

Check the new version. I tagged 2 locations with it.

 

We will use it to tag all the fuel stations, car showrooms etc etc

 

Its just a tagging tool that allows you to teleport to saved locations... I know it's a little unusual, but you will see how useful it is to us smile.gif

speaking of which i have some ideas

 

-that turfs wont show up the map

 

-and a certain amount of models will spawn at a hotspot for e.g. Irish Gang at Steinway Beer Garden if Niko or a neighbouring gang tries to kill all the models listed in the code that was told spawn, a random gang will spawn at that turf and the original gang, another gang or authorities will spawn near the turf to eliminate that gang in there

 

-If Authorities take down a gang's turf, no gang spawns there and more police are there

 

-but if you take down Authorities (which would be HARD) you only get three stars as a max, because you crippled down the FIB

 

Here is my input about where gangs will go and will be in their vendetta to stop them

 

- last thing forgot to put is that the gang will only be at the hotspot (e.g. Colony Island Safehouse) whoever the gang is the owner, the owner of other hotspots will be whoever it originally was or who took it over

This is a good example why we need the PositionTracker tool tounge.gif

 

With that tool, you can tag all these locations, write a short note about it, and then share it with us so we can see your ideas. If multiple people tagged the same location, we will be able to see each person's comments about it (I'm still working on that menu, and also the teleport blips on the map)

There *will* be territory take-overs for different reasons, excessive attacks on a faction will cripple them and sometimes force them into hiding for a while (Different police departments will be factions too, so they will be subject to this, but they will recover relatively fast due to their funding)

 

There will be hard and soft control points that will automatically be attacked and defended. Soft control points can be created by the user, like creating a guard post or barricade (now possible with my object streamer)

Yes, gangs will be visible at locations that they own/took over, if that was what you meant

 

For the rest of the locations, please tag them using PositionTracker, so I can see what you think of each location smile.gif

 

Gangs will NOT be pre-programmed to do things at certain times. It will be entirely based on their boss's personality and their circumstances. If thier boss is aggressive, and another gang is coming too close to thier territory, then they will push that gang back. If he is defensive, then he will defend instead of attack. If a gang hates a certain other gang, then they might seek to destroy the other gang. If they cannot afford to do something, then they won't (they might resort to robbing stores, raiding other gangs etc). Gangs can finance each other if they want to co-ordinate attacks on each other. You may even provoke these things by dressing up as a member of another gang, and then attacking them. I want this to be as natural as possible, so there will be NO pre-scripted events!

That is exactly what you're supposed to do with that tool smile.gif I will improve this tool today, and better categorise the locations that we will need to collect.

 

Currently, these are the position types:

 

 

"fuelStation", "modShop", "gangHideout", "carShowroom", "bikeShowroom"

 

 

I'm wondering if we should have seperate TYPES for each gang etc, instead of just 'gangHideout'

I might change it to:

 

 

"FuelStation", "FactionHQ", "FactionExpansion", "ShopCars", "ShopBikes", "ShopBoats", "ShopMods"

 

 

FactionHQ will be location(s) that factions will protect the most, as these are their bases of operations. Some larger factions can have multiple HQs depending on how many high ranking 'officers' they have.

FactionExpansion is a location that factions take over as a kind of strategic point

 

Does anyone have better ideas on how we should categorise the positoins, or any other comments?

 

Here's a new idea. We simulate Miami (or other cities), so certain gangs can trade/smuggle stuff etc. Then gangs will be able to ask their allies in those cities to 'hurt' opposing gangs that are supplying their enemies. Damaging their 'suppliers' from another city will hurt them too...

(I'm busy working on the official GTA4 Overhaul section of my site, which will have features like: seperate comments threads for each part of the overhaul with a better quoting system and the ability to rate other people's comments, a direct instant chat link with me (provided by Windows Live), polls, better categorisation of everything in general etc etc)

And for the PositionTracker, when I type "toggle tools" in the console, nothing happened for me...

Normal?

 

EDIT: Ah no that it's OK, I didn't see the menu opened because the console still opened tounge.gif

There should be a menu in the upper left corner when you have typed "toggle tools" in console.

I Like the way you think about this, yeah and for financing gangs maybe they have vehicles,briefcase,bag filled money stashed around that niko can transfer around to another gang also if he affects too much on gangs, hitmen and gang members will be near his safehouse to kill him (or at least try to)

I wish i could play it, but after putting in the ScriptHookDotNet v0.86 with Vetra's mods, i get this while starting up the game. I have .NET Framework 2.0 installed and everything, i even have .NET Framework 3.5 installed. I don't see what I am doing wrong. Someone please aide me for a solution.

EDIT: I got it working by simply replacing my old ASI loader, with HazardX's ASI loader.

Just a message to everyone following this mod:

 

I am almost finished making GTA4 Overhaul's official home. There has been almost no progress made on the mod today due to this. It's part of my business site, which is still under construction, so... expect it to be empty. This part of the site should be ready within a day (if there's no problems... hopefully tounge.gif)

I will make a sub-forum on my site for this, so we can create lots of topics and discuss each part of the mod seperately tounge.gif I guess that will be a better way to do things, considering the size of this mod... we can't really discuss each thing properly using a single topic...

 

Don't worry, I'm not going to force you guys to register on my site, because I know how annoying that is.

Great mod. Is it possible to make the vehicle chase camera lock behind the vehicles when turning corners and spinning around? Better yet, would it be possible to allow the user to have the ability to adjust both the speed in which it follows vehicles when turning corners and the height of the chase camera. C06alt released an awesome mod that locks the camera behind the vehcile, but it would be nice to have everything in one mod. Thx for listening to feedback. I love the mod.

One thing I just thought of:

 

Since your gonna be making car mod shops so you can control whatever aspect you want...can you make it to where we can choose the size of wheel we want and even pick and choose between different styles(not new wheel models but just swap wheels from other cars just for variety) Getting tired of not being able to at least make the wheels bigger like in SA just by changing the size on the .dat file

As far as I know, I don't think that is possible... There are some natives for checking if a part is enabled or not, and the ability to enable a part if it was *made for that vehicle*... But I don't think there is any way to swap out wheels from other vehicles. R*'s vehicles are kind of limited...

 

This is a weird theory...if I could find a way to hide a vehicle and its wheels seperately, then I could *maybe* use 2 vehicles, one inside the other... and enable the body of vehicle1, and enable the wheels of vehicle2... So it seems like the vehicle has different wheels...

But then there's a whole lot of physics problems associated with that.

 

So, if vehicle wheel models can't be swapped out directly, then it would be extremely difficult to do this...

 

@HazardX, do you know of any way to do this?

I am a professional C# coder, so if you would like any help with this, I would be glad to help (I took a look at your mod's code with Refactor, and I saw quite a few areas in your Petrol/Fuel handler that I could probably fix up to work more efficiently).

Thanks man, this mod is only a week old, and since I'm not familiar with most of the functions available to me, I change things a lot... so for now, things aren't totally efficient yet. In some places, I did take the easier route when I thought I might need to change things often... I declared new objects and variables within loops etc, which I will clean up once I am happy that the code is going to stay that way, else I'll take an inefficient route just to keep all the variables in one place, which will make it easier to modify. I just prefer to do things this way smile.gif

Sounds sweet.

 

I myself was working on an in-game car spawner, and in the process made a small GUI library that currently has context menus that you navigate with Numpad8 and 2, Enter, and Backspace (Up, Down, Next Menu, Previous Menu).

 

I would like to get some things like check boxes and such so I could add in-game settings and toggles.

 

 

Just link me to the forum when it is set up, and I will register there smile.gif

Too late... biggrin.gif i'm almost done with the GUI library for the .Net ScriptHook, which mostly resembles Windows.Forms in usage and has mouse input. Included in the next release are the following controls:

Control (abstract)

Form

Label

Button

Textbox

Checkbox

Keybox (to catch key combinations)

Scrollbar

 

maybe even more. It will also feature a unified way to config scripts via a GUI (i'm planning that you just need to assign an attribute to a property and it will automatically convert to the apropriate control in the config window.)

Hey Leo. I added variable fuel consumption according to those calculations that I showed you... for idle, city and highway... different consumptions for different cars... different tank sizes... leaking fuel etc etc

I'm thinking about making the fuel stations as actual businesses, so that's why I haven't added them in yet.

 

%? I'm not really sure how far along I am... The forum is online, so we'll all 'regroup' there and plan things out properly.

Just another reminder, I'm still looking for more people to help out with this mod. There's still a large amount of data that needs to be collected, checked etc.

It's just basic stuff:

- Looking for information on google

- Getting screenshots

- Giving ideas

- Finding the positions of things in the game

 

Hey man I just saw this,it looks great!The whole OOO/FCOM thing is so great if this is going to be even close for GTA 4 I can only imagine how awesome it will be!!!I read this carefully and you mentioned almost everything that I felt was missing from GTA 4. Kudos colgate.gif

And I would be happy to offer any help on this,especially I am good at ideas because i don't know much about computers,just say what exactly you need help/suggestions with and I will help. biggrin.gif
