I have a hunch that because the Normandy is destroyed that the council think Shepard is dead and the start of ME2 will be the part at the end of the video.

But I killed the council. tounge.gif

Yeah but if you decide to let the council die, the humans make a new one or something therefore it would be them that could assume Shepard is dead.

I think it was more humans say what go (leader of Earth, or some proxy), rather than a new council...or do you mean a council of humans?

I'm sure that I went with some sort of choice that meant that would happen.

I chose Udina to be the new leader of the human empire thingy though. He probably wouldn't care about Shepard crashing the rather expensive prototype Normandy.

I've really f*cked up the canon here. sad.gif

mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno.

Yeah, haha, it felt so familiar hearing him. Really put a smile on my face.

And why would anyone choose Udina over Anderson. He knows what war is all about, and he isn't a huge dick. Keith David even narrated The War, oh yes sirree, he knows war. He was such a sympathetic character, I was so glad when he punched Udina.

I just hope it doesn't prove to be that big of a deal-break later in the game.

Can't wait til tomorrow, more ME2 info should be released. btw, is it me or does that asari that says "shepard, but you're dead" sound familair? is she the same asari that tricked you into killing her sister because she was blackmailing her?

I dunno, but I don't think they'd put too much emphasis on a character from a side-mission. I never bothered with that freak in Flux who wanted me to help him cheat, so how would that play out in the game later?

I only chose Udina in my most recent save game, I've had a few pevious saves where I've chosen Anderson. tounge.gif

I honestly cannot wait for this game, the most recent trailer was insanely good.

yes it was, it was freaking awesome. for those who haven't seen it yet here's the extended version:

and here's a article from shacknews

It is no longer be a spoiler to say that Commander Shepard, hero of Mass Effect, lives in Mass Effect 2. Despite the clever teaser, he is, again, the hero.

"We've always said we wanted to create a story about taking one human through [a huge story]," said Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson during a lengthy demo of the game. "And that human is Commander Shepard."

As planned, players can carry over their saved data from Mass Effect, with character choices and gameplay decisions impacting the events of the dark sequel.

The real surprise coming out of E3 is that it also won't be much of a spoiler to say that Commander Shepard dies in Mass Effect 2.

In fact, plenty of major characters in Mass Effect 2 can die before the end of the game. And if Shepard or any of his companions die, and you carry over that data to Mass Effect 3, those characters won't make appearances in the final game of the trilogy.

Before we got to a fatal scenario, BioWare showed us a section of the game where Shepard and company infiltrate a building to find a mysterious assassin. Hudson explained that Shepard is tracking down the mysterious disappearance of humans across the galaxy, a quest that will culminate in a significant final mission--a mission that will see your decisions impacting every stage of the climax.

The first gameplay segment shown amounted to a conversation between Shapard and blue-skinned alien Liara in a flying car, a scene first shown at GDC. BioWare has stepped up the cinematic camera angles in Mass Effect 2, and not to a gimmicky level--nearly every shot during the conversations was beautifully staged, including plenty of dynamic camera movement.

Liara eventually dropped Shepard off at the target building, at which point the party quickly captured a guard, leading Hudson to introduce the new "interrupt system"--a new way for players to physically and abruptly end a conversation.

During the guard's interrogation--"Tell me where the bomb assassin is!"--players will eventually see a flashing exclamation mark in the lower left corner marked with the left-trigger icon. Upon pressing it, Shepard simply pushed the guard out the window, leading one character to quip, "So when do we read him his rights?"

Shortly thereafter, Hudson detailed a few of the new combat systems. Mass Effect 2 will now allow players to fire off abilities without pausing the game, in addition to issuing move and attack orders for independent party members. All of this lends itself to a more dynamic combat scenario, with a great focus on scooting and shooting.

Of course, the abilities themselves have been bolstered by new additions. The Bionic Pull will allow players to yank enemies out from behind cover, while concussive rounds physically blast characters into the air. There are nine new weapons classes in all, including a new heavy weapons system.

Now we hit spoiler territory--or, at least, light spoiler territory. As the ending--and the middle--of Mass Effect 2 will change depending on your decisions, to call anything a true spoiler seems pointless. Even still:

DO NOT READ BELOW THIS POINT IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN ENTIRELY UNSPOILED.

Following the building scenario, BioWare had two more quick glimpses of the game. The first was of various other planets, which will now be more varied in design, or "like a science-fiction painting come to life," as Hudson put it.

But the really interesting stuff was in the concept that any character can die in Mass Effect 2. To illustrate this point, BioWare skipped ahead to a later section of the game. An unknown alien force had torn apart the flagship starship Normandy, the ship near collapse. Shepard issued an evacuation order, forcing Linara to head to the escape pods. Surrounded by chaos, Shepard slowly made his way through the fire to a doorway--and then the booming sound dropped out entirely, sucked away by the vacuum of space in Dead Space style.

Walking on the skin of the dying ship, Shepard eventually found shipmate Joker, who is attempting to save the craft. But at that moment, the enemy ship fired a beam weapon at the ship, violently splitting it down the seam. Shepard was knocked about in the fury, then was entirely jettisoned into space. The hero flailed about in space as his air leaked out from the wrecked spacesuit, then disappeared into the black.

BioWare ended the live demonstration there. Hudson didn't need to reiterate that Mass Effect 2 was indeed a darker sequel.

Certainly looks darker. I think Seth Green Joker has put a bit of weight on.

I must get round to playing Mass Effect again. Need to roll a Bio character devil.gif

Was that Liara in the car? Sounds nothing like her, nor does it look much like her.

Unless they changed her looks and VO for the PC version. tounge.gif

Mr. ruthless is right. that asari is a totally new character, possibly a new squad mate. what is very intresting though is the possiblity of sheparddieing in the middle or the beginning of the game. are they trying to pull a heavy rain?

f*ck yes! Male Renegade Shep isn't holding back on the cheese!

also, that Asari was driving a f*ckin sick whip.

I cannot express how happy I am to see new actual gameplay. New weapons (Mini-nuke? Improved AR?), new characters, I am so excited.

I am also glad I have 6 completed campaigns saved on my 360, should make 2 even more fun.

If there were one character I'd bring back, it'd be Liara. She wasn't boring, like Kaidan and the chick that was covered up in clothes, or xenophobic, naive, and preachy like Ashley. I hardly ever used Wrex or Garrus, won't comment on them. And as far as I know, Liara never dies. It's Wrex and Ashley or Kaidan that die.

Oh, well.

I hope to see Garrus again. He was my favourite character from the first game. liara was also relatively good. The rest had their downsides. Wrex - a bit destructive. Ashley - little annoying. kaiden - always seemed unhappy. Never used Tali'Zorah nar Rayya.

based on the audio of the E3 demo that I had heard liara does return if she is your love interest, same goes for ashley. This is of course assuming your shepard is the male one.

Also, in that demo that audio between shepard and joker was chilling and the fact that shepard can truely die at anytime during the game(based on your choices) makes me want this game even more

here's the audio on the E3 demo(warning-slight spoilers)

I'm playing through the game again, I'm gonna go with Liara as my love interest in this one. That way I have both.

That's pretty damn awesome. I've actually gotten pretty attached to my Shepard, I'd hate to see him die. It actually felt weird seeing him in the trailer, the default Shepard, I mean. It wasn't MY Shepard.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying both ashley and liara will return, I'm saying that your love intrest will be in the normady with you. of course they might both be there regardless, depending on you choices in ME1 so..yeah.

as for the other spoiler:

That scene isn't from the ending of the game. Instead, Hudson says, it reveals that Commander Shepard can in fact die at the end of Mass Effect 2. This is what the teaser was about all along. "We're not talking about game over screen and then you reload and keep going. It's actually one of the many complete endings where Commander Shepard dies for his mission," he says. Paragon and Renegade choices don't count either. What Mass Effect 2 is about is building a team that's tough enough to survive this end mission, which is the most dangerous ever created by BioWare. You can play after the credits roll, play other missions, download new content and carry your character forward into Mass Effect 3, but only if you live through the ending. "In Mass Effect 2, you're not expected to survive."

Jesus freakin' Christ, that is awesome.

So you die if your crew and your character aren't strong enough? I love it. Throughout the game you'll have to pay attention to everything, otherwise you die. Your whole game affects the ending. You can't reload your save and just correct your mistake. Wow.

yeah, it sounds like a great move by bioware. btw, those choices you make that determine if you live or die isn't dependent on paragon or renegade.
