eDad.
I think the first mission will involve you escaping from somewhere - and that you're not actually dead, but been captured or something. Well he did blow up a freaking spaceship the size of a small planet, he probably could escape rather easily. Though I'd much rather see a new main character, it's more fun to explore a new character than it is to see the same drudge pull himself together for the so-manieth adventure. Mr.Ruthless
With a new main character all relationships, friends, enemies, choices, love subplots from the first game would be useless.
Machida
I'm so up for a new main lead. I'll admit to giving Shepherd a bit of a nod when he walked out of that wreckage but our relationship didn't go any further than a "f*ck yeah man, we took that cheesy ride together. Glad you aint space food". Lets see him return in the third instalment as a over the hill drunken Space Marine on a quest to relive the glory days by blowing sh*t up, and lots of sh*t. But as far as a new character in this is concerned I'm really liking the angle of playing as one of the tin men, if that is how it's going down. It also solves the issue of Shepherds level. I wouldn't have been too happy if they axed all my hard work creating a gun nut who could push you off a cliff with his mind. Neither would I have been particularly happy if I was that level 52 maniac and as a result, breezing through this title. And as far as past events, relationships and all that other nonsense… f*ck that. f*ck consequences, I'm a mother f*cking Space Marine.
chngdman
That looks amazing. You know, I bought this right after IV came out on PC because it was on sale. Love it, great game, haven't had the chance to actually play further than flying my own ship for the first time over to that cold planet where those people try to take my gun - you know the one. I bought mad games on steam since November, I always end up playing IV. lol. but: Players who have not played the first Mass Effect will start a new character in Mass Effect 2, and will be brought up to speed on the story elements that have taken place thus far in the series. Now THAT is awesome. You'll be a new character if you don't have a save, but I guess you'll stay Shepard if you do, that is soooooo awesome. If there is anything that will motivate me to spend a bit more of my spare time with this game, and games in general, it's a well crafted sequel. Feckin' EA, makin me like them again, it's not nice. It's not nice at ALL. Edited February 23, 2009 by chngdman
deathdealer
here's my theory that I posted on the masseffect forums: I have a theory, if it has been posted then I'm sorry, what if cerebus(sp?) did a surprise attack on shepard and it nearly killed him? Shepard is in near death but he gets infused with geth technology. Shepard doesn't turn into a geth but the tech is used to keep him alive. I came up with this theory after watching the future of mass effect video from a youtube video. In the video they talked about what would it be like to cross the boundry between synthetic life and organic life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2L59SLGY1E

You will still be Shepard when you make a new character I guess, but you only get a standard storyline from the first game. There are several key points in the first game that can change the storylinge in the second game Who survived and who did'nt Did you save the council Who did you pick to be a council member Who did you pick to be your lover
Mr.Ruthless
I hope that Bioware will ignore those idiotic pricks at Fox and add some sex scenes, like in the first game. There's a sex scene in almost every f*cking movie and nobody says anything, but when there's two seconds of bare ass in a videogame - OMG HARDCORE PORN, ALERT THE MEDIA! Well him or her, depending on what you chose, and they have said that you can play as your Shepard from the first game as long as you keep your game save. Damo.
The first image in the first post looks rather like a war-torn version of Virmire from the original Mass Effect, and the second looks like the Citadel. Maybe we'll revisit some old locations? It'll be interesting to see how Bioware will make our choices in the first game impact our story in the second, while avoiding inconsistencies in the plot. The game is still about a year away, I'll definitely be keeping on eye on it though.

I guessing small difference in how things happens but it will all be roughly the same storyline, and different side missions.
Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Bump. Work in progress gameplay has been leaked from GDC '09, including cutscene footage. Check it out, should be right on top. I never played ME1, so I suck, but I'm sure I'll end up picking it up for cheap sometime in the future. deathdealer
We are still not sure if shepard is alive or not but apparently we will find out on E3. a few more facts to note(gotten from GTTV and the leaked video) * we will see ME2 from different perspectives * there is destructible cover( i.e. glass) * there will be more romance options * the game intro will play different depending on your ME 1 save *On GTTV (gametrailers TV) there is a concept art of wrex holding someone up and the human that wrex is holding up says "good to see you too wrex". *the Illusive Man, a person who played a huge role in the ME novels, will appear in the game. the Illusive Man is the head of cerebrus. that's all for now. SynTerro
* the game intro will play different depending on your ME 1 save Hmm.. only the intro? *On GTTV (gametrailers TV) there is a concept art of wrex holding someone up and the human that wrex is holding up says "good to see you too wrex". Wrex is one of the characters that you can chose to kill, so that character can't be to central in the main storyline
Darren.
I cannot wait for this! I need it now! Mass Effect was brilliant and now we have to wait a year for No. 2! God-damn you Bioware, must thy annoy thee?

Starion
That was obviously The Normandy at the end. I've actually took some pictures in ME1 of Shepard standing in the same spots as he is in that video. It's a shame, but the Normandy's gone. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno.
AbSoLuTiOn
I have a hunch that because the Normandy is destroyed that the council think Shepard is dead and the start of ME2 will be the part at the end of the video.

deathdealer
the july edition of OXM released some more info(thanks to the mass effect forum): *A new character called thanes can join your squad. Thanes is apart of a species called the krell and he's introduced during an assassination. *The geth you saw in the teaser will be a character in ME2 and he is a rouge geth.(hk-47 anyone?) *you will get to play as shepard for an undertermine amount of time *We will get to visit an asari planet called Illium and we will also visit omega, a polar opposite of the citadel. *There will be special endings for people who went extereme on paragon or renegade on both games *A lot of the main characters will return in ME2 but doesn't state in what capacity *theres a krogan called grunt *there will be a salarian scientist who will be the clint eastwood of scientists
Creed Bratton
2010 seems like forever away. I've just purchased Mass Effect 1 PC like a month ago, maybe less, and it's instantly one of my favorite games of all time. It's amazing.
