Test Track- Trial by Dirt missing!

Recommended Posts

SEANSKILTON

I've done the game all the way up to 99%, but am trying to do the 'Trial by Dirt' mission. I've done the 'test track' mission in the 4x4 but jumping on the Sanchez at the dirt track starts the same 'test track' mission!!

I've tried multiple times & nobody seems to have this problem. I'm reluctant to reinstall in case I lose my game...

My pc:

1.6 GHZ

Windows XP Home Edition

ATI Radeon 200M

512mb RAM

No mods/cheats installed or activated

Help anyone?

Does it spawn you back in the land stalker, or do you end up on the bike?? Does the mission start thing say "test track" or "trial by dirt"

They courses are relatively similar.

If you want someone else to look at the save, please post it-- you can host it easily here.. http://gtasnp.com/

Yeah I'm still on the Sanchez but the mission start says 'Test Track' and when I finish it just updates my best time for 'test track'....

Very weird, Please post up your save (hosting site linked above)-- I'll see if it does it on my game and complete it for you if it doesn't-- very weird, can't say I've heard of that one-- there is a bug with the times for the two, but I've never heard of that glitch/bug.

There is a glitch(at least on PC anyway), on Test Track and Trial By Dirt to where you must do one, then do the other only on the second one you have to get a lower time than you got on the first one and in the stats it will have both as the exact same time. I haven't played VC in a while, so i'm not totally sure which one you have to do first, but I think it is the Sanchez one first, then the Lanstalker one, if memory serves me right. Haven't tried it on the PS2 yet, so that one is unconfirmed. Hope this helps.

Not to worry fellas, strange though it was I persevered all day & managed to trick it into 'Trial by Dirt'... by jumping on the sanchez, then jumping off the bike and running away for a bit, coming back when it respawned! Eventually it gave up the ghost and let me have my mission back!

Cheers for all ur help!!

That glitch/bug is on PS2 (at least on original version) but it seems spotty, not everyone gets it-- I get it on my PS2 every time.

As long as you get a time for both in your stats (although they will be the same), it won't prevent 100%.

@Sean-- Congrats on working through it...

Can you describe in a bit more detail what you did to get past it?? I was going to add it to the pinned bug/solution list.

Thanks

hello. this message is mostly directed toward spuds725, but anyone is welcome to reply or advise here. i am one of those people who get 'stuck' at 99% complete in my pc version of vice city. i have checked many checklists and guides, including spuds rework of C.L. chongs ticsheet, posted in two parts here at the forum; and so far everything seems to be done, yet i am still at 99.

specifically i drew my attention to the test track and trial by dirt races. i saw entries in my stats for both already, then as i was looking over the new ticsheet, i recall what spud said about there being a glitch about the times recorded and they both being the same on some game versions. the times are the same on my stats list.

well, i went and redid both races, and though i dont remember which order i did them in, i did not do them in alternate orders. i believe i started with the 'suv', and then the cycle. i think i went through both enough times that i did actually end up beating my previous times, to a point that i could not get it done any faster. in spite of all this, my percentage is still at 99, my times are still identical, and unless i am blind or missing something in the ticsheets, i really believe that i have done everything in the game. so, all i can figure is that i really have missed something, or i had used a cheat somewhere along the way and screwed up the save file accidentally saving a cheated gameplay. yes, i have already checked my shooter/shooting range, and i have the proper scores and percentages, and im pretty sure i have the fast reload. even if i dont, my stats show a high enough percentile and score pertaining to this area, as it relates to 'you must have ##' in shooter/range for completion.

i am not at home where i have my stat files available, so i cannot copy or attach such info now. if you really need that, just let me know. i for one though am at a total loss here.

thanks

If you're on the PC, you can find out what you're missing by using Demarest's Ancestral Recall (Found near the end of this post).

Also, you might want to double check the stadium races - you need first position in Hotring to get to 100%. Make sure that you've completed other checkpoint races such as Cone Crazy, PCJ Playground, Chopper Checkpoint and the RC races.

If both Trial By Dirt and Test Track times are showing in your stats, no matter what the time reads, then that means that the engine has registered them as complete. They will more than likely read the same, which gives no indication of your actual time, but it means that both are completed and needn't be touched again.

As Arv said, you can check what you're missing by downloading Demarest's Code Tool (Later re-uploaded by Spuds) Ancestrall Recall. It has been tested and proven to work on everything, so I can assure you that it will work fine. If you decide to download it, be sure to read this-

This tool will tell you everything you have left to do to get 100%. Backup your /TEXT/american.gxt file and put this one in its place. This american.gxt is the original plus what's needed, so you can continue using this even for the normal game. Backup your main.scm file and rename ancestral.scm to main.scm. Load up your game. Text will go across the screen displaying all that is left to be done. When the list is finished (or you die or get arrested), it will begin again. Once finished, swap your SCM files back to their original names (you do not need to swap back the american.gxt files), load up your save, and continue playing. Special Thanks to GTArv for creating a new american.gxt file to work with Ancestral Recall--**************Special Note for Ancestral recall, for some reason certain saves have made ancestral recall not start scrolling what is left (not sure what is causing this), Spuds has discovered a work around when this happens... simply put your original main.scm back in place, start any task (example paramedic), immediately quit it and then save your game. Put the ancestral.scm back in the main.scm's place again (like you did above), reload the new save and it should work*****************

Have you got any obscure stats? Particularly the RC Challenges? I've seen some members who had recorded a time of over 1,000 minutes in their stats on the RC Plane race, but obviously that is impossible. I advised the member to re-play the side-mission, and when he did he finally completed the game 100%. When you get a chance, have a gander at your stats to see if anything looks too far-fetched.

Be sure to post back what you find. smile.gif

If you want to post up your save, I'll take a look at it using ancestral recall for you (if you don't want to mess around with switching files around)-- this will literally take me less then 5 minutes to check your save-- you can host the save here... http://gtasnp.com/

For fast reload (to check)-- get an SMG-- and hold down the fire button... when he empties a clip, he will reload-- if fast reload is enabled, he doesn't move-- just pauses for a 1/2 second... if fast reload is NOT enabled, you will see him switching clips... which gives a longer pause between clips-- this is by far the most overlooked thing in the game for people trying for 100%...

From your post above-- you didn't check the rifle range properly (according to my 99% checklist)-- it is NOT in your stats-- the score/percentage for the shooter is for the Malibu mission-- you MUST go back there after the mission and do the rifle range (same thing you do for the first part of the shooter) and score a 45 to enable fast reload.

HTH...

I wonder how many times that's actually been the case since you've been Area mod of the VC sub-forum. The vast majority of people stuck on 98 or 99% are always missing the Rifle Range. I think it's time to add a reminder note in the top header of this sub-forum reading 'RIFLE RANGE' in capital letters! tounge.gif

The problem is the malibu mission-- everyone assumes that the mission and the stats they give you show it being done...

In the case above though, he swears he did the rifle range after the mission... (according to his PM)

I trust ancestral recall though... I still have his save to prove it if necessary.

I think I need to increase the font size for it in my 99% guide... and move it to the top of the list.

To be fair, the game doesn't give you much notification of what exactly you need to do. Not only is the rifle range relatively hidden, but a lot of gamers assume that they've completed the task if they've achieved a score of at least 30. The game only permits you to beat a score of 30, and gives no indication of the required mark which is obviously 45. I've actually seen some cases where gamers assumed they'd unlocked the fast re-load function after attaining a score of 30 or more, where they thought that when the game was loading, it loaded faster than before! Did it have a technological boost in a split-second or something?!

About the 99% guide update, sounds good to me. icon14.gif

Done...

Nicely done, as well. It's certainly clear enough for people to understand, and you've covered everything all the bases. Hopefully the vast majority of people will take note of it and thus solve their problem..
