GTAIVMAC
As soon as you´ve met them, you should be able to see them in the "players met".. I have experienced that some japanese noobs has had another name in-game than on the players-met list

ChristopherD
I have had that same problem...I found that if you have been playing a long time, new ppl don't show up in the 'Players Met' list. I think it is becuase it is set up similar to the friends list, which only is supposed to allow 50 friends. If you get more than that, then ppl may not show up in your in-game 'Invite' list, even if you know they are online. Same with the 'Players Met' list. It will populate up to 50 ppl. after that, it no longer lists anyone new. Solution: Reboot every so often to allow the list to 'depopulate'. EDIT: @post below: I just meant turn it off and turn it back on... Edited February 18, 2009 by ChristopherD

Japanese have the option to change there display name. It only appears on the online list, messages, request, and a few other ways. Otherwise the name they originally made will be shown in places like games.
