Best Movie Endings

A thread dedicated to the best and you're favorite movie endings spanning any kind of movie genre you wish. List reasons why you think this movie's ending is the best, of course use of spoiler tags should be used. If it's possible to have a poll up when we get a nice amount of nominations that would be good.

Mine would have to go out to Seven.

The movie finale really ends the film in a different way. Too many films these days have a nice, happy ending, so you don't expect this coming. It's also the way John Doe's plan adds up. Setting up the punishments and deaths for the sins, he reveals himself as the final sin. And when Brad Pitt Kills him his masterpiece of horror is complete. It's a ending that chills you to the bone and shocks you almost. This would have to my all time favorite ending.

And Post yours.

The Prestige and The Machinist, I don't really have the cognitive capacity to explain them both, they're both films you really have to watch to understand. Words will just deaden their impact.

The Usual Suspects.

I went from thinking Keyser Soze was "Verbal" Kint, to thinking it was Dean Keaton, then finally realising it was Verbal all along. The ending sequence where it all unfolds had me in silence. I was just staring at the screen, brilliantly formed story.

I didn't like the ending of the Usual Suspects. Heresy!

Who's ever heard of a mystery film that doesn't give any clues to solve it? It was just so blatantly written backwards.

Writer 1. Oh wouldn't this be a cool ending?

Writer 2. Yeah it would man. How do we make it so?

Writer 1. Well we could lie to the audience for the duration of the movie.

Writer 2. Yeah dude! Hey lets hire Stephen Baldwin too, you know really rub it in their noses!

Bah, hated it. tounge.gif

Anyway forget it Jake, it's Chinatown.

Rocky has a very uplifting end. I LOVE YOU ROCKY!!!

Clerks 2 had that nostalgia ending complete with the milk maid.

Batman Begins just leaves you salivating for more as does the ending for Spider-man.

I think my absolute favourite is still Godfather Part 3, even if the rest of the film is mediocre. Michael loses the 3rd woman in his life thanks to his life in the mafia and let's it all out. Then finally dies peacefully in Sicily and has a dog sniff his corpse Don't forget the great use of the intermezzo from Cavelleria Rusticana.

Also mentions for Revenge of the Sith which nicely ties up the film to A New Hope and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Awesome! Totally Awesome!

Reservoir Dogs

Joe Cabot figures out Mr. Orange is the rat and pulls a gun on him, Mr. White defends his friend saying that Joe can't go on instinct alone and points his own .45 at him, and now Nice Guy Eddie pulls out yet another gun on White. Meanwhile, Mr. Pink is just trying to avoid a bloodbath and yells "We're supposed to be f*cking professionals!". All of a sudden, Cabot shoots Orange, White fires on Joe, Eddie defends his father by capping White, and as White falls he fires off one last shot, killing Eddie.

As they all lay their, apparently dead, Mr. Pink comes from behind cover, surveys the bloody scene, then walks briskly out the door, making off with the diamonds. Mr. White, not yet dead, claws his way back to the blood drenched (but surprisingly still alive) Mr. Orange. This is where Orange decides to tell White he is, in fact, the cop. Shots can be heard from outside as Mr. White begins to whimper, realizing just how wrong he was. As the cops burst in, Mr. White finishes off Orange with a bullet to the head, then he himself receives a hail of gunfire from the cops.

Great. f*cking. Ending.

Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake

Man on Fire.

He saves the girl, and dies in the car before they can torture/kill him. He goes on his own terms, and finally passes after a life of sin. But, in a way, by saving Pita, he earns himself one last slice of good karma.

See, a story is a story, even if the teller is talking out his ass. Besides, it's obvious from Kobayashi being a real person at the end that there's certainly a lot of elements of truth to the story he tells.

Not to mentions there's hints throughout the movie. Even if they are really subtle and not TYLER DURDEN FLASHING ONTO THE SCREEN obvious.

At least you made up for it by picking a great ending to a great movie.

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. Going out guns blazing. "For a moment there I thought we were in trouble."

The Mist. The ending made that movie. It was like being punched in the gut. Repeatedly.

The Mist? A lot of friends of mine share your opinion. I felt it was far too contrived... not only that, but the notion that a man would actually kill his own child - not as a last resort but to potentially spare a a more grisly death - was so unbelievable to me. One guy can go do a little recon, potentially finding some sort of refuge... or dying in the process and providing an indication that it's time for the others to off themselves. Seriously. They didn't even attempt to take a look outside the vehicle. Suicide pacts are so f*cking emo.

I would have preferred to see them drive off into the mist. Cut to credits.

I think all hope went out the window when they saw that big ass creature.

I can understand it's not for everyone. But it worked for me, I don't know how I felt. I wanted to cry, I wanted to scream, but most of all, I just wanted to f*cking applaud.

Yeah man that was a pretty unexpected ending made worse by the fact the women who went to look for here children was on the truck, so if they had gone with her they all would've been saved .

"Aren't you going to kiss her goodbye?"

"Nope."

It just speaks volumes about Jack Burton.

A Scanner Darkly.

Put a lot of effort into that one, chief.

As did you, Chief.

My favorite movie ending would have to be American history X.. So f*cking sad.

I already contributed to this topic. Far more than you deserve. You get to tell me how to post when you manage to string together some content that goes beyond "so f*cking sad."

Well, its not as inspiring as some of the movies the lot of you have picked out and admire, but I loved the ending to The Devil's Rejects.

Freebird plays, and the entrie gang is in that convertible just hauling ass at the cops and firing guns. They are way out gunned and just don't give a f*ck. They want to live in their own way and would rather go down fighting then submit. Granted they are a bunch of sick f*cks, but I love that middle finger aimed at authority. Not to mention I thought it was a slap in the face to all those gay "cliff hanger" endings you get in a lot of horror flicks.

They picked the perfect song to end it with. I saw it coming from a mile away though.

Not at all. Honestly, it's one of my favourite endings, too.

Scarface, on the other hand...

The ending to The Sixth Sense, i really wasn't expecting it. The genius of the ending is the fact that it forces you to reconstruct the whole film in your head, events in the film that you thought you understood have a completely different meaning.

For example there is a scene in which Bruce Willis is late to a meal at a restaurant with his wife, Anna. When he arrives she ignores him, pays for the dinner, whispers "happy anniversary, Malcolm" and then leaves. At the time you jump to the assumption that she's pissed off at him for being late, it's not until the end of the film when everything is properly explained that you realise what was really going on.
