Hotballs69
I've got it up and running on a new Alinware m9750 laptop and it works fine. This model is actually their "thin" model, and isn't their highest end rig. I just wanted to say I'm having a positive experince, because after reading this forum, I expected an unplayable game. It looks great, even with graphics settings mostly on "medium".
izzy eckerslike
This is the sad thing really that this great game is so selective as to whether it will run or not & as a result it gets a caning in the forums & as you say you were vary wary about buying it after reading such comments. It runs perfect for me as did Farcry2 - another very selective game so what exactly causes all the problems has yet to be discovered
Hotballs69
My laptop has the minimum reqs, but probably an above average graphics card. It will run with settings maxed out, it's just smoother when you lower them. I really don't notice "poor shadow quality" when I'm shooting people in the face. I finished the game on ps3 a long time ago, and just got the windows version for portable multiplayer. I'm happy with it.

Hotballs69
Performance drops while on battery power, but I lower the settings and can still play. I'm thinking about jailbreaking my iPhone and using it as a modem so I can play multiplayer on the train.
chngdman
I'd recommend never gaming without being plugged into a wall and also setting your laptop power settings to Presentation mode. For others willing to try it out on a laptop: Remember, these are not supported if things go wrong!

The inside back cover of the GTAIV manual has an Alienware ad that has a picture of a laptop and says "Rockstar Recommends Alienware". the game works great for me, and actually looks better than it does on my PS3/1080p setup. the discrepancy between what's said on this forum about the game, and reality, is MASSIVE. TheFamousOne
Gee, I sure wish I could get it to run smoothly on my alienware m9700. Waste of 45 dollars in my opinion, as I far surpass the minimum requirements. Lousy port, I think. But Ill get in trouble for expressing my opinion based on my experience. Oh well. Apparently he's not familiar with Alienware. They're the Rolls Royce or maybe Lamborghini of computers. But unless they're using some kind new cutting edge state-of-the-art battery technology, my previous post still stands.
