Hart
Both, can't have too much of one type, things get a bit boring with just one style if you ask me. Exactly. This is probably one of the main reasons why I'm losing interest in games though, too many companies making realistic games. Most of the games from my childhood which I remember werent realistic at all. Just good ol' platforming fun. Although I'm not sure I would buy a kiddy platformer now, they usually make it too silly and have guns in it. I mean, what happened to jumping on things to kill it? Now we have a super-duper grenade launcher or some sh*t.

If some games aren't so longterm as they say they are, then things can only get better. People are denouncing GTAIV, but R* will build from some unatractive aspects, as will other companies. Forgot to say this on my previous post. Games aren't real. They're only visual. NOT REAL. They are ment for enterianment. (Fun) Not bringing in realism and graphicism. Games are not MENT to look like life, or the reflection of life. It's like looking in a mirror basically. Do you prefer and decide which game has the best graphics? Then buy the game and play it? Just a personal question. Edited February 17, 2009 by DiscoverProject
Pat
Playing a game without fun is equivalent to working, but without pay. Fun and challenge win by a mile. And it may just be me, but I'd take Super Mario Bros. over Crysis any day of the week.

(maybe to other players) but the gameplay is awesome. It makes me feel like I'm playing GTA 2 Advanced as in they upgrated it. I bet Rockstar would change there ways of planning GTA series. The people. If people are real pissed about GTA IV, and they make a GTA 5 or something, people won't buy it. Supply and Demand.

Barely any cars, only one fricken city, and I beat it in less than 12 hrs. Midnight club 3 in the other hand, sucky graphics (really could careless) and over 80 cars, 3 cities, 1 bonus if you have remix, trucks, bikes etc etc. I mean WTF. They make these new games, with sucky features, and the game with the most and better graphics would hold more memory and cannot add other features to the game. GTA IV, not endless Vigilante. (most memory considering graphics). SA, vice city, vcs, lcs, gta 3 with...WITH endless vigilante, less memory. Because they didn't care for the graphics at the time (maybe my guess.) major underscore
Fun and Challenge That's what it's all about. A game that has fun gameplay and is designed in such a way that you can keep playing it for a long time and still find it challenging is what I'm looking for. They had new game engines, and physics designed for them (That takes time). R* probably wanted to get a feel for the consoles first, before going apesh*t with adding featutres. Alot of game companies do it. It's nothing new. Like for example Gran Turismo 3 has alot less cars than Gran Turismo 2. Grid doesn't have as many cars, and tracks as Race Driver 3, WWE Smackdown 3 doesn't have as many features as WWE Smackdown 2, and so on. As for CTW having awesome gameplay. Do you have a time machine? because last time I checked CTW wasn't released yet. OT- I find that as I'm getting older I prefer graphics, and realism. I loved platform games when I was younger, but I like games that are more like real life now. Alot of people say realism isn't fun, but it really depends on the way you like to have fun. I don't like playing that that are really far fetched. I like playing games that are as close to real life as possible, but obviously not exactly like real life. I always laugh how people on this site, and other sites say they wont buy another GTA game again, because of how disappointed they were with GTA IV, but you just know they would go, and buy the next GTA without hesitation. The temptation would drive them f**king nuts otherwise. Maybe some people wont go out, and buy it straight away, but anyone who says they wont EVER buy another GTA again I would happily call a bullsh*t artist. All R* would have to do is announce the return of planes, car customizing, buyable properties, haircuts, tattoos etc, and people would gather like a bunch Eagles around a carcass. There were a few things that I was disappointed with in GTA IV, but I'll buy the next game regardless, because they can always IMPROVE, and FIX things that were wrong with GTA IV. I don't like playing that that are really far fetched. I like playing games that are as close to real life as possible, but obviously not exactly like real life. I totally understand what you mean but you gotta understand, games that have realism takes alot of memory. Gotham Racing took up 19Gs for my xbox 360, and the game sucks. Awesome graphics, but plan old suck. GTA 4 coulda been better but they put realism before what everybody likes, fun. I mean the walking in Gta 4 is stupid, its hard really. Riding a bike in 4 is tough also. I like the fact when you hit people they hit your front hood and yell at you, its pretty cool but the fact is that they put realism before anything else and games don't hold much memory and in the end the game sucks period. Look at Mercenaries 2, awesome graphics, superb realism, gameplay sucks, critics gave it a 3/10, fans hate it and like the previous title, and gamespot and other gaming sities gave it a low score also. Btw, I'm pretty sure I didn't say I'm never buying the next gta. I bought 4 and was disappointed, doesn't mean that I'm never buy gta again. Wait you are calling mercs 2 realistic? Since when has a one man army that takes on the un and china and still live realistic? And the graphics are nothing to go home and cheer about either. And the gameplay doesn't suck. it just get old fast. And since when have 8 and 9 low scores? ( that is for mercs 1) And mercs to got mostly 7s and only gamespot gave it a 5, no where near a 3. And to answer you question i believe about what a prefer: I prefer graphics and gameplay and not realism unless the game is suppose to be realistic like Rainbow Six Vegas. tommy vs. claude
I like realism only to a point were it makes sense. Look at Half Like 2. It has real physics, lighting and all of that sh*t but the core gameplay isn't that realistic and the health system basically equates to a health bar. And that got game of the year. copperwire93
Why there are no gameplay option? Games suck as all hell with lame gameplay just like Legendary. In that case I choose fun. Realism like Half - Life 2 and Far Cry 2 also a good option, but FC2 isn't too fun like Crysis and HL2 Edited March 13, 2009 by copperwire93
ryuclan
Hopefully these game devs don't get into thinking that Realism = Good Gameplay. None of my favorite games are realisitic looking nor were they too high on the graphics scale for their time. I'd put good gameplay, controls, and storylines to good graphics any day. Flesh-n-Bone
I'm just wondering. What do you prefer purply based on games nowadays on these new generation systems for Ps3 and Xbox 360. Fun and Challenge Or Realism and Graphics (two totally different) hard to explain. Graphics as in real looking, and realism (like based of GTA IV, cars hitting you, etc etc, Niko falls, blah blah blah) The former without a doubt. GTA IV was such a huge disappointment for it's focus on the latter case IMO.

I don't think the way it looked had much of an effect on that though. More the way the game played out.
